Immortal Hulk Speculation: Moving Forward from Issue 14

If you haven’t read Immortal Hulk #14 yet, or didn’t see out spoilers, then you might not want to read on. But if you like spec on comics, this post is still for you.

My friend Jeremy A. from Comic Book News and Speculation on Facebook had a conversation the day after the spoilers posted. We mapped out (and to be honest bought copies) of books that could be related to the events. Here are the relevant books. (Blind Adam also mentioned some of these in the comments a few days back.)So, if you have read the issue, you know Betty got shot through the head. After Bruce Hulks out, we get some info on the nature of the Hulk’s immortality. Seems that Betty has the same immortality.

The first time Betty became gamma-infused she became the character the Harpy. MODOK captured Betty and turned her into a Gamma beast, wings, talons, and green. The happened in Incredible Hulk #168. This is one of two ways this could play out.

The second time Betty Hulked out was as Red She-Hulk. She shows up as She-Rulk on the cover of Hulk #14 1:10 Variant. She does not appear in the issue though. She makes a cameo, last page reveal, in Hulk #15. Her first full appearance is in Hulk #16.

These issues have been heating up since Wednesday, so check back issue bins and your local honey holes.

Thanks again to Jeremy A. from Comic Book News and Speculation and Blind Adam.

  1. Really feel we will be seeing Red She Hulk again due to the fact that Betsy specifically points out the fact that she was once “Red She Hulk” in one of the panels while she’s contemplating things. Was really no need to allude to it otherwise..seemed like a reminder/get ready/don’t forget cue to readers. Good stuff!

      1. Absolutely and it’s appreciated. I won’t lie…I really knew nothing about her role as Harpy. Another book added to the list!
I was fortunate to get quite a few Red She Hulk books cheap before the rush so I’m biased in my hopes lol.

  2. Aw c’mon! No one mentioned Harpy till I brought it up. I doubt if most people knew about her……..

    1. I think anyone paying attention knew about the Harpy as soon as the Joe Bennett sketches surfaced

      1. I have seen the images and that is certainly a direction they could be going in. I have hedged my bets and gotten cheap copies of all the issues on Tuesday night/Wednesday.

    1. People are speculating on Red because its Betty, not Jenn. And, because of this panel in Immortal Hulk #14. Notice Bettys red eyes when she stirs, after being shot in the head.

  3. it will be interesting to see what I find at big apple con this weekend .
also speaking of hulk .why are the 1990s animated series on dvd ?great series and the leader is boss.love ya all blind adam out

    1. Bootlegs brother. Bootlegs. Many of the early Marvel series are not out on DVD and I suspect it is distribution rights that caused it. The ‘66 Batman show took forever to untangle and just came out on dvd not that terribly long ago.

  4. I just pulled 9 copies of Avengers 682 out of a $1 bin, including a secret variant.

Ironically I looked for this variant multiple times the week it came out. And I also lost out on an auction Tuesday night where I bid $15 for this same comic!

And the only reason I was looking in the &1 bin to begin with was I couldn’t remeber the comic I was there for so I was just wasting time hoping seeing random issues would jog my Memory.

    Weird.

  5. I find it odd that while Avengers 684 is hitting $40 a pop, the Skottie Young variant hasn’t moved above $5-$10. Ok, it’s pretty shitty, not his best work at all but still. Haven’t seen a key book’s variant get the flipper death sentence like this since Thanos #13 lenticular

    1. Yeah, should stock up on the thanos 13 lenticulars. Boggles my mind.

When I was $1 bin diving I also spotted many Thanos 16s. Will go back next week and really deep dive and see what else I find.

  6. I have this weekend off so that gives me some time to go to the LCS. I haven’t been back bin diving in a long time so this will give me some time to do that.
