Final Order Cut-off Highlights for 4/8/19

Final Order Cut-Off is the last day that shops can guarantee their orders for comics. After Final Order Cut-Off, or FOC, these books will only be available to retailers on Advance Reorder. And that is not guaranteed. So here are the highlights for Monday, 4/8/19’s FOC list.

Marvel

Savage Avengers #1 – New series teaming Brother Voodoo, Punisher, Venom, Conan, Wolverine, and Elektra together. First issue was a pretty good read. Reminds me a bit of Dark Avengers which I enjoyed, but with real and not “replacement” characters. Also, the showdown between Conan and Wolverine begins here. The Simone Bianchi is pretty wicked.

TRUE BELIEVERS STAR WARS DARTH MAUL #1 – Holy cow! This reprints one of the toughest Star Wars series to get. Back in the day when Dark Horse was taking over Star Wars and Marvel was losing the license, this came out. The solo issues are hard to get but the TPB is even more difficult. A great Darth Maul story that has been kinda lost.

STAR WARS ORIGINAL MARVEL YEARS #50 FACSIMILE EDITION – Sweet, a classic Marvel Star Wars book getting the facsimile edition, why not #1 though.

DC

DCEASED #1, DCEASED #1 HORROR VARIANT, and DCEASED #1 VAR ED – this series is sick. I have read the first issue and it is great. I was wondering how they would pull this off without making it too “Marvel Zombies” and trust me it works well. I am really digging the Horror Movie Homages.

DEATHSTROKE #43 CLAYTON CRAIN VAR ED TERMINUS AGENDA – Fan favorite Clayton Crain does a Killer B Deathstroke cover for the Terminus Agenda storyline. Great looking cover.

DCS YEAR OF THE VILLAIN #1 – Cool 25 cent issue, but you know there will be variants… The 1:100 Variant Artgerm, the 1:250 Alex Maleev and the 1:500 Jim Cheung variants are all very approachable in price. Evil is winning! Lex Luthor and The Legion of Doom conspire with Cosmic Gods, bending mankind toward a dark destiny. Elsewhere, the scourge of Leviathan spreads unchecked, seizing power in every corner of the world. And all the while the Batman Who Laughs busies himself in the shadows, aligned with no one-yet with sinister plans for all. The carnage starts here as the badguys take center stage in “The Year of the Villain,” the most treacherous event in DC Comics history. Some act with united goals, others with plans selfish and secret, every one of them on a monstrous collision course against Batman, Superman and the heroes of the DC Universe. And our heroes will fail us. Don’t miss the start of “The Year of the Villain,” featuring the talents of writers Brian Michael Bendis, Scott Snyder and James Tynion IV, artists Jim Cheung, Alex Maleev and Francis Manapul and cover artist Greg Capullo.

BATMAN #70 – “The Fall and the Fallen” begins! This is the one you’ve been waiting for! Now that Batman has escaped the “Knightmares,” he’s starting to see the forces rallying against him-and that his father from another universe has joined the other side. The Caped Crusader finally digs into the mystery of how Thomas Wayne, a.k.a. the Flashpoint Batman, escaped the collapse of his dimension and ended up in this part of the Multiverse. Get all the answers in this new five-part story paving the way for the next big BATMAN event!

GOGOR #1 – Cool looking new Image book. From KEN GARING- the writer/artist of the acclaimed series PLANETOID- comes an all-new ongoing series of wonderfully weird high fantasy! Deep underground- among the floating islands of Altara- the mystical Gogor sleeps. But trouble brews above ground as soldiers of the Domus impose their will across the land. Now- a young student named Armano must awaken Gogor and begin his quest to protect the culture of Altara.

WALKING DEAD #191 – Come on, you cannot tell me that isn’t Rick on the cover. But what is going one with him?

DESCENDENT #1 – New Aftershock book. WANTED: Information as to the whereabouts of JACKSON E. MILLER, Son of Senator Carter Miller. The child was kidnapped from his home in Washington, DC between 4 and 6 a.m. on Tuesday, March 1, 2018. Address all communications to FBI representative Joanna Hernandez, writer Stephanie Phillips (Devil Within, Kicking Ice), artist Evgeny Bornyakov, colorist TBD, or letterer Troy Peteri. All communications will be treated in confidence. Please, no more calls about secret government conspiracies or ancient cults. Conspiracy theories, government corruption, and a really good mix of Prince drives David Corey to help solve the mysterious disappearance of a famous politician’s son. When David realizes that the truth is much more dangerous than a kidnapping, he must battle ancient secrets that have endangered the lives of children for centuries. This conspiracy-fueled adventure story looks at the darker side of American history through the eyes of an unlikely team of heroes. If they fail, the American government and its people may not survive.

FALLEN WORLD #1 – One of my all time favorite artists (es, it is a strange favorite) Adam Pollina has a new series, and wrapped in a Jonboy Meyers cover to boot. In the year 4002, a cyborg samurai named Rai struggles to find his morality, while the nanite-filled supersoldier Bloodshot is on a mission to save the citizens of Earth. Will they work together for the greater good? All signs point to no. Oh, and did we mention there are also dinosaurs on the loose and powerful animal-human hybrid mutants? Good luck with that, Rai. Love smart sci-fi and engrossing world-building? Dan Abnett (Aquaman) and Adam Pollina’s (X-Force) FALLEN WORLD has you covered.

DEVILS #2 – First issue on this new series from Antarctic Press was pretty good. Looking forward to the next issue.

  1. Unfortunately that’s not the cover to Batman 70….too bad as I really liked that cover.

Not sure what to think about the artgerm year of the villain cover…a little too much “sexy” in that animal…throwing me off…

  2. Can’t wait to see Pollina’s art again! There’s also a sweet Mack variant for this one.

  3. There’s a Wonder Woman movie coming with Kristen Wiig has been cast as Cheetah and not a lot of great Cheetah Covers out there. They pushed store variants with full page back page adds and logo’s added to the front with 5000 copy purchases so there should be a lot of them coming. I’m expecting 50 copies. Hoping the movie drives up interest in it. I have a copy of my final cover already in my photo album.

  4. DCeased, DCeased, DCeased, DCeased, DCeased, DCeased, it was so good I can barely remember Batman Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III #1 is also on FOC today and the first two series were big sellers.
BATMAN TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES III #1 (OF 6)
    DC COMICS
    (W) James TynionIV (A/CA) Freddie Williams II
The 80th anniversary of Batman collides with the 35th anniversary of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles in this stunning concluding miniseries to the BATMAN/TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES trilogy. Our heroes have battled the evil of the Foot Clan in Gotham City and Bane in New York, but now Krang has gotten his hands on the most dangerous technologies in the DC Universe-and no universe is safe from his wrath! Co-published with IDW.

    1. Did you see that now they are doing a Blank cover for this? FOC is 4/15 with allocations could happen. I put my order in this morning as soon as i saw it… i cant wait for the Cons to start and get a few Sketched for Charity.
