Each week hundreds of new comics hit the shelves, each with potential. Some live up to that potential. Here are our Picks of the Week for Delivery 5/1/19:
The Cheap Pick Up
DCs Year Of The Villain #1– one of two big DC event kicking off this week. The regular cover is 25 cents but there are also variants including the Artgerm Variant, The Alex Maleev cover, and the Jim Cheung Variant
Just Because
Major X #3 – Campy fun. Reminds me of Liefeld’s 1990’s work. The first issues have been selling well.
The Small Gamble
True Believers Star Wars Darth Maul #1 – this reprints Darth Maul Son of Dathomir, a really hard Star wars book to come by.
NEW #1’s
Gogor #1 – the new book out from image this week by Ken Garing. I have read the first issue and it had a very European comic vibe to it. May nit be for everyone but is a good read.
Descendent #1 -new series from Aftershock comics. Conspiracy theories, government corruption, and a really good mix of Prince drives David Corey to help solve the mysterious disappearance of a famous politician’s son. This conspiracy-fueled adventure story looks at the darker side of American history through the eyes of an unlikely team of heroes.
Fallen World #1 – is the new Valiant series that features Rai in the future. Art work by Adam Pollina who I really dug as a kid, good to see him doing comics again.
Five Years #1 – Terry Moore’s new series crossing over all his books, Strangers in Paradise, Motor Girl, Rachel Rising, and more into one series. Looking forward to this.
Hashtag Danger #1 – out from Ahoy comics, new small press publisher who has done some great books, this one is a comedic send up to the fantastic four from the description of it.
Rejected The Unwilling One Shot – the second one shot from Source Point Press in the Rejected series. The first one sold extremely well.
The Potential Outlier
Deathstroke #43 – continues the Terminus agenda story and has a great Clayton Crain cover. Rumor of a big spoiler here. Will know shortly.
Pick of the Week
Straitjacket Vol 2 #1 – The first series was crazy good and I am looking forward to this coming out again. Straightjacket was optioned a while back and I would love to see it on screen.
Marvel Pick of the Week
Savage Avengers #1 – Marvel’s hotly anticipated new series as it brings together Conan, Wolverine, Venom, and other characters on a new team. Dying to see which version of Venom we will see. Will it be the classic, the FCBD version, or the Dreamstone version we saw in Venom 13. Venom does not appear in this issue though. I get a Dark Avengers feel from the book.
DC Pick of the Week
DCeased #1 – DC’s new horror themed event. Had a chance to read this a while ago and it is surprisingly good. I am a huge horror fan so shooting for the Horror Movie Variants, myself.

FYI, I added some white border around the “CHU” so if you have a dark or black background, it isn’t skewed. Might have to remove and add it back to the home screen. Not sure if Apple caches it or not.
Not much for me this week other than a copy of the horror theme cover for DCeased and Batman 70B. May look for the rejected…
Otherwise is dumpster…I mean back issue bin diving for me. Going to hit a place I haven’t searched thru in a while….see what i find.
