Things I Like and Don’t Like for October 16th, 2019

It’s that time again, where I tell you what’s really grinding my gears for the week of October 16th, 2019.

Some weeks it’s mostly likes, other weeks it’s dislikes.

So what’s grinding my gears this week?

Folklords

The first issue is a fantastic story building read. I’m a fan of Matt Kindt’s work. The story starts off reminding me of the movie The Village in a sense. A small group of villagers surrounded by boundaries with rules. Break the rules and be punished.

If you like the fantasy, you’ll like this book and story. It’s got my attention and it’s a like for this week after reading the first issue.

Question

This new Lemire book coming out sounds great, can’t go wrong with the artist lineup either. Vic Sage’s first appearance was in Blue Beetle #1 back in 1967 from Charlton Comics, with the rights later being bought by DC.

I’m expecting big things from this one. It’ll likely be the oversized style which I’m not normally a fan of but this one I think might work well.

Question The Deaths Of Vic Sage #1 (OF 4) (MR)

For years- Vic Sage has worn the faceless mask of the Question to clean up the streets of Hub City by sheer force of will. He knows right from wrong. He knows black from white. But what happens when he is drawn into a conspiracy that reaches from the heights of Hub City power to the depths of its underground tunnels?

What happens when things stop being black-and-white and start getting a little gray? And what happens when- in a secret chamber deep beneath the city- Vic Sage meets his own end…and his new beginning?

Eisner-winning writer Jeff Lemire joins forces with the legendary art team of Denys Cowan and Bill Sienkiewicz to resurrect Vic Sage- only to destroy him all over again…and again…

Pencil Sketch Variants

First of all, you can’t go wrong with Alex Ross but the penciled version of his paintings is just awesome. Maybe it’s not for everyone but I love the raw pencil sketches.

So they hit gold I think when they started doing these for Immortal Hulk for the additional printings. Not to knock Bennett’s interior work, those just weren’t intended to be cover art.

Final Order Cutoff is tomorrow for Immortal Hulk #24 2nd Printing. Most retailers are showing the painted colored version as the 2nd printing so some might have been turned off, not knowing it’s a sketch variant.

That’s all I got this week. Tell us what you’re liking or disliking this week here in the comments or on the forums.

  1. Back in early August I was playing in a charity soccer tournament…someone kicked me in the back of the leg (away from the play) and I went down hard.

After 2 months of little improvement Despite physical therapy I finally went to an orthopedic a few weeks back and they sent me in for an MRI…ruptured Achilles. In fact, ruptured and then partially healed Achilles.

So I’ll be having surgery to reconstruct it, and being my right foot will not be able to drive to work for pretty much the remainder of the calendar year….

So no more Wednesday warrior or raiding back issue bins for this guy for a while…just pull lists and online orders through 2019.

Not really a gripe….just an unfortunate set of circumstances. Actually the worst part is the wife, who already has a part time job and responsibilities getting the kids on and off the bus every day, will need to drive me to and from work. That part I hate to burden her with.

      1. Nah, my job doesn’t allow me to work from home. I could opt for short term disability…haven’t looked into it but I believe I’d have to use up all my Paid Time Off (vacation) before qualifying. Not worth it for essentially a desk job. And I may be able to bum some rides off co-workers who live up the road too.

Just gotta put this annoyance behind me ASAP.

  2. get better soon d.that type of injury just sucks .riht now I hate chest colds ,hotel prices ,that family guy is on at 9;30 this year&not having enough time in the day .love you guys blind adam out

  3. Dude, so sorry to hear. As a person who has ruptured both (my twins as I affectionately call them) I can fully sympathize with you. I had Tenex last week in fact. It’s gonna be a long rehab. Take it slow, and don’t test your greatness prematurely. Massage out that scar tissue to avoid severe tendonitis later on. God Bless you bro. You’ll have lots of time to catch up on your reading. Stay strong! One
