Wednesday Winner: Superman #17

It is nice to walk into the local comic shop and pick up your books, it is even nicer that by the end of the week, those comics are worth multiple times what you paid. Superman #17 B cover is one of those books.

Essentially, nothing big happened to drive up the price. Bleeding Cool is saying that Superman #18 is the one to get for Clark Kent’s big reveal, but did do a post saying that the prices of 17 are going up due to speculation.

This is an odd one, sets have sold for $34.99. Some of the single covers can still be had for cover price. Mycomicshop.com has cover A for cover price. TFAW has cover A as well, but have a different cover art showing. Same description. The price on these are $3.59, so 10% off cover. It might nt be a bad idea to grab a copy or two of the A cover just to be safe.

    1. But Far Sector is getting love, if you’re selling them as 3 issue sets. Seeing sales flirt around the $30 range. It’s probably the better long term bet than this stupid identity reveal which is just getting press so people who usually don’t read comics are likely seeking out cause they’re making it a bigger deal than it really is..

Superman has done a reveal before, nobody cared. This is just Bendis being Bendis..

  1. I figured there was something up with this Superman book. I went to a comic shop close to where my boy has his Tee-Ball games. Some random person came in a grabbed 6 copies. The register guy called him out on why so many copies. The guy just said he missed out on the book and was grabbing some for friends lol.

I’m not falling into this story line. I think Superman should be more dark and battle more bad guys instead of this soap opera that’s been going on since the new 52s. The only one that has been good is Superman Unchain.

  2. I had high hopes for this run on Superman, but I dropped it from my pull list at the conclusion of the unity saga (which was way too long) and I wish I would’ve dropped it sooner. Even the Hughes covers weren’t that great. Oh well.

  3. Whatever…whoever is paying $40 for this cover knock yourself out.

Wish you would have sent this out earlier when I was at the comic shop, though…maybe there will still be some cover Bs floating around… by then undercutting will set it, no doubt.

    1. When the FOMO starts to wear thin and people realize they’re buying a book where he doesn’t even tell the world yet.. that’s when sales will certainly start to drop. I think the window for this one and the next will be small, very small. Bendis just likes seeing his works show up on CNN and Fox I think.. even if they’re small mentions, that’s his goal.. not to write good stories, make headlines.

  4. Superman was in good hands when Tomasi was on the book. This is FOMO period. Bleeding Cool loves to yell fire after they light the match. I am not adding another comic to my pull list. I have already had to cut books as it is. I grabbed Far Sector because I am a GL fan. Do I really give a crap about Superman revealing his identity? There are rumors that DC is doing another Crisis event to usher in the 5th Generation of Heroes. I am pretty sure this will be reversed with that event. DC lost a lot of good will they gained with Rebirth. I love Doomsday Clock but its obvious that its a stand alone tale now. DC is a mess. Batman sucks right now, Leviathan was a waste of money, and The new Legion sucks. Not to mention Justice League is a convoluted mess and this Villains thing is a recycled version of Forever Evil which btw was way better.

Bendis has done some great work (Infamous Iron Man was awesome) but his Superman run is not working in my opinion. Put him on Deathstroke or Nightwing. He tends to do better with villains or street level heroes. The Gods are not his forte.Maybe they should have put him on Batman. His Daredevil was amazing. I feel like Tomasi did some really dope stuff on Superman and that has been swept under the rug. I hope Tomasi goes to Marvel. FOMO is a plague on comic collecting.

    1. They posted another story last night about how it is not being reprinted even though it sold out. It was a big story about nothing but is getting coverage. But hey, sell them if you got them.

      1. I agree if you can sell them, why not? The book is not very good in my opinion. Tomasi made Superman interesting. Bendis has not. Superman deserves way better than this from DC. John Byrne, Dan Jurgens, Mark Waid, Geoff Johns, Jeph Loeb, and Grant Morrison have done a lot to shape the modern Superman. Tomasi in my opinion got it on his run. His book was a Superman book.

This Bendis run doesn’t feel that way to me. Like I said hes good at street level heroes, sociopaths, mentally deranged heroes and so on but this Superman take is weak to me. Besides if they plan on having Jon Kent inherit the mantle with this 5G thing, what difference does any of this make? I do think the Clark Kent identity has run its course. Its kind of ridiculous at this point but this isn’t the story Superman needs right now. Superman needs to ‘die’ again and leave him dead until you can figure out what to do with him.
