Comic Picks of the Week for Delivery 12/18/19

Every week hundreds of new comics hit the stands, each with potential. Some live up to that potential. We pick the ones we think have the best shot at heating up. Here are our picks of the week for delivery 12/18/19:

New #1’s
Skulldigger and Skeleton Boy #1 – a lot of pre-publication buzz on this one. Especially on the variant cover. Black Hammer has been optioned and the introduction of characters could be good long term.

Tales from Harrow County Deaths Choir #1 – New Harrow County. My favorite horror themed book. This is another optioned book and could be a good long term hold.

Low Low Woods #1 – New Hill House series. These could be good holds as Joe Hill has been known to get things optioned. Jenny Frison variant for this one as well.

Old Guard Force Multiplied #1 – recently optioned book (original Old Guard series is still dirt cheap so tread lightly)

Project X-Mas #1 – Turns out it is a new American Jesus series (previously optioned for Netflix) and the original was actually really a good read.

Teen Titans #37 – reveal of villain this issue. Could be a bust but could be interesting. Spoilers tonight.

Wonder Woman Dead Earth #1 – Great looking Black Label Post Apocalyptic tale. Looks cool.

Covers of the Week
Wonder Woman #83 Frison Cover – great take on WW on the cover. Her style keeps evolving and is perfect here.

Vampirella #6 Artgerm Acetate Cover – Artgerm cover with a blood splashed overlay. Pretty cool.

Reprints of the Week
Vampirella Magazine #2 Replica – these original Vampis are getting out of the average collectors price range so it is pretty cool they are being reprinted in full.

Eternals #1 Facsimile Edition – reprinting the first Eternals before the movie hits. A chance to see what is what without the high price point.

One to Watch
Doomsday Clock #12 – if this one turns out affecting the DC universe as a whole it could turn out to be big. Spoilers tonight.

Must Grab Variant
Marvel Action Spider-Man #12 Jonboy Meyers Incentive Cover – These have been great looking covers and hard to find. Worth the pickup if you can get it cheap.

The One with the Media Tie-in
Narcos #1 – based off the Netflix series comes a new four-issue mini-series further detailing the intrigue and danger of the international drug trade of the 1990’s! Two new recruits bring danger to DEA agents Murphy and Pena, while Pablo must contend with a dangerous threat to his drug empire!

Wellington #1 – From Aaron Mahnke, the creator of the Lore podcast, comes an amazing new supernatural thriller that shines a light on the mysteries and monsters lurking in the shadows. Meet the Duke of Wellington-one of England’s most decorated military heroes and, unknown to most, her most daring monster hunter. The secret history of the Iron Duke begins here!

Small Press Pick of the Week
Gung-Ho #1 – New small press small print run book from Ablaze. Ablaze proudly presents, Gung-Ho, a “spiritual successor” to The Walking Dead! In the near future, the “White Plague” has almost completely decimated humanity, and civilization is only a sweet memory. Europe as a whole has become a danger zone, where survival is only possible within towns or fortified villages. Enter orphaned brothers Zach and Archer Goodwoody, troublemaking teens who have just arrived at Fort Apache, and about to learn the hard rules of integration into the colony. Outside the walls lies a hostile and deadly environment, but inside is also a dangerous place, as the boys are about to find out. Benjamin von Eckartsberg and Thomas von Kummant deliver a creative and visual tour de force with jaw-dropping artwork that will transport you to a brand new post-apocalyptic world where the tension is palpable

Pick of the Week
Eskimo Kisses #1 – awesome new one shot from Scout Comics. I love horror books. Originally, the word Eskimo came from an Agonquin term for ‘eater of flesh,’ but that definition has been lost to the ages, until now. Present day, an isolated town in Northern Canada discovers the true origins when a stranger arrives and they are overrun by cannibalistic creatures. Along with the help of some locals, the town’s police officer and his pregnant wife must do anything they can to get out alive.
