Welcome once again to my spec and my drek. I pick what I think will be winners, not only if you make money by flipping but winners as in either a great read or just awesome art.
Then there’s the pesky drek, the comic you should avoid altogether or not fall into the buying every variant trap.
It’s the 5th Wednesday of the new year and while these are typically small, this one isn’t too shabby. Maybe since the first fell on the 1st which was a holiday.
DC Pick
There is absolutely nothing coming out for DC books that stands out for this week. The only thing I’d even consider picking up is the Detective Comics #554 Dollar Comics Edition. You can actually still pick the original issue up of Detective #554 for fairly cheap.
Marvel Picks
Marvel is pretty light this week but there’s a few I’ll be checking out.
After the hellish horrors of ABSOLUTE CARNAGE, the Ravencroft Institute has received a much-needed facelift and is open for business with a new staff, including JOHN JAMESON, looking to atone for the part he played in ABSOLUTE CARNAGE.
But will Ravencroft return the mentally unstable villains of the Marvel Universe to upstanding citizens and give John the redemption he’s looking for, or will they fall prey to the hospital’s seemingly sinister nature?
This might be getting a glance from some based on the new Webslinger but I’m just really digging this cover.
It’s high-noon, the town is in trouble, Sherrif Stacy is down for the count and the Sinister Sextet is threatening the peace. Who could possibly stop them?
Why, Webslinger, of course. Join Taran Killam (star of ABC’s Single Parents, formerly of Saturday Night Live) for his Marvel Comics debut alongside Juan Gedeon (VENOM) bringing you a horse that can run up the side of buildings.
Indie and Small Publisher Picks
This pick is for the retro 8-bit style cover art. Transformers #16. Just a cool cover in my opinion. Takes me back to the 80s video game playing days.
Anyone remember Airboy from long ago? Any fans in the house? Airboy #51 hits shelves to pick up right where it left off from Chuck Dixon.
Now on with the dreaded “drek” pick, every writer and artist worst nightmare when it comes to selling their hard work. The book to avoid or not fall victim to in buying at ratio inflated prices.
Wolverine vs Sabretooth #10 3D edition. It’s like really? You can find the first printing for less than this 3D edition that has a retail price of $7.99.
Wish we had Dave Stevens for the Airboy covers. Loved his artwork.
What?! No Weapon Plus World War IV?!
All hail Spider-Horse!
Like the other Weapon books in the past year or so, we’ll probably find these in the dollar bin sooner rather than later.
looks like a typical 5th week
Fallen Angels 3/4 second prints. Ms Marvel 7,8,9 Connecting cover 2nd prints, Miles Morales 1st Billie cover 2nd print, Fallen Angels 6 variant. Ravencroft 1 Ryan brown.
Fallen angels 3/4 cameo/ full of apoth henchman dude. Ms marvel 10 2nd print cameo. Also I forgot Conan Serpent War #1 2nd print, first dark Agnes marvel.
You know it’s a slow week for a publisher when a dollar reprint is the highlight…
DC sucks lately.. I almost just want to skip them entirely now.
