Poyo’s FOC Highlight Book for 2/3/2020

Another FOC Monday is upon us comic book collectors. FOC is the last chance to put in your orders with your comic shops and more than likely get at a discount for pre-ordering.

There is a lot of books on FOC this Monday and after scowering through them all and reading up on some spoiler information, this weeks pick goes to the new Avengers of the Wastelands #2.

I hint at some spoilers in this issue so if you don’t like spoilers, stop reading now.

Avengers of the Wastelands #2 (of 5)First I must say, I really dig this regular cover. Maybe I’m a sucker for a good sunset but this one just draws me in. It’s simplistic but yet makes me want to pick it up and read it.

Well, I did get to read this book in advance and there’s some surprises. We learn that the Captain America is indeed a new character with a back story as well. This makes the first appearance in Avengers of Wasteland #1.

We saw the new Thor from this series who is Danielle Cage heat up in Dead Man Logan #11 and  Dead Man Logan #12 so maybe this one has potential.

At the end of this issue, there’s a slight hint that there may be a new addition to this Avengers team, a character coming out of Champions and King’s Vision series. You can likely guess who that could be. I won’t spoil too much.

There is also a 1:25 Federici Variant for this issue which is pretty cool. I really like Federici’s art.

  1. If you are hinting at Viv showing up, she already played a prominent role in the Old Man Quill maxi series. I can’t think of who else you may be referring too, if it is not Viv.

I don’t think any of these Wasteland characters ‘1st appearances’ mean much of anything right now, outside of Old Man Logan in Millars original story arc. I believe the only reason the Dani Cage book caught heat was due to her taking the Thor mantle, instead of it being a seminal 1st appearance, imo. I don’t think there is much spec there, but, the old man/wasteland books are great reads, imo.
