Punchline Watch Latest Updates

The craziness surrounding the Joker’s new girlfriend, Punchline, started with last week’s release of her first cameo in Batman #89 and continues this week with Hell Arisen #3. But the question has been, when will her first full appearance be?

Speculation has been that Hell Arisen #3 would be another background cameo appearance and her first full appearance (definitely her first cover appearance) would be Batman #92. There has even been some talk about her getting a first full appearance in Nightwing.

James Tynion IV had a Twitter discussion that helps shed light on the situation.

So there you go. Batman #92 is not the first full appearance, as per Tynion, just her first appearance where she starts to do anything. Hell Arisen #3 is still on track to be first full appearance, but in the end, the market will deside which is the most important appearance.

Thanks to Kevin at Frankie’s Comics for sharing the tweets.

          1. Not even desirable appearance, market just decides which book is the most valuable. The funny thing is, her first already happened and that was in BM89. 🙂

              1. Yup.. Wolverine’s first is 180.. but 181 is the more valuable one. If Wolverine’s first isn’t in 180.. who’s that guy at the end then? An imposter? A dude in a costume that looks just like the guy who shows up in 181? 😉

              2. That is because lots of money was pumped into 181, so buyers want to protect their investment.

                180 is the true first appearance.

              3. there is no argument on IH180, its wolverines 1st appearance albeit brief, IH181 is just more desirable as he impacts the story as a 1st full appearance. this is what creats the value.

                Noun. 1. first appearance – the act of beginning something new; “they looked forward to the debut of their new product line” debut, introduction, launching, unveiling, entry. commencement, start, beginning – the act of starting something;

                1. I thought Wolverines first appearance was Foom! #2. Marvel should make a facsimile of that…really mess with the hulk 180/182”ers….and bring onto themselves lawsuits which would bankrupt them (again)…

                1. Exactly… but desirability can be lumped in that category as well. I desire my eggs not to be over easy… while others desire their eggs over easy! 😉

  1. I think Batman 89 will win long term. Hell Arisen 3 doesn’t have her on the cover like the Hulk 181 cover has Wolverine on there in the 181 vs 180 debate. If 181 had a cover similar to 180, lacking Wolverine, then 180 would likely be the winner IMO, the same way Batman 89 will be the winner. I also think that modern collectors are creating new rules, and the market is starting to trend towards books in which a character is in print in any form, but especially when their face is visible. Going back to 181 vs 180, even though Hulk 181 is the winner bec. of the cover, 180 has seen huge growth due to this trend. Another factor I think, is that the character design was already available online in advance. Everyone already knows what the character looks like, and so when in the past a face cameo would be less significant, it’s actually the full character design reveal which is less significant today. So long ramble short – I think Batman 89 wins.

  2. Punchline might be similar to Doomsday and Darkseid in that that their early cameos are stretched out in several comics? The most valuable comic turns out to be the early one that has a smaller print run and is hardest to obtain.

    1. Teen Titans 12 is TBWL’s third appearance, and first ”full” as accepted by the general collecting community… lower print run than Casting and Metal #1….and he’s on the cover (A cover).

    1. Uh oh, maybe I should have held onto the copies I pre-sold lol. At $60 each I guess I can’t complain… but that def looks like a 1st full. I still like Batman 89 as her 1st but this may have more legs than I thought after reading it would be a cameo type thing. She doesn’t say anything in the panels I’ve seen but I think it’ll be enough for the market. By next week we should know which book is the winner, but it’s gotta be one of them.

  3. As always so thankful spec wise to those retailers who get the books on Monday and leak. From the lst Walking Dead to this it really helps!

  4. I preordered and was screwed out of a copy of Batman 89 by an online retailer. Does anyone on here have an extra copy they’d sell to me?
