Comic Picks of the Week for Delivery 3/4/20

Every week, hundreds of new comics hit the stands, each with potential. Some live up to that potential. We pick the ones we think have the best shot at heating up. Here are our picks of the week for delivery 3/4/20.

New #1’s
Mirka Andolfos Mercy #1 – New series from Mirka Andolfo. Good read. Shooting for the Artgerm cover for myself.

Strange Adventures #1 – Tom King got a lot of flack for his Batman run, but what he has done really well is miniseries that center around one character. Vision for example, or Mister Miracle. Here he partners with Mitch Gerads to tackle Adam Strange.

Strange Academy #1 – Pretty fun read. Written by Skottie Young with art by Humberto Ramos (which people are hit or miss on).

Argus #1 (Danger Zone) – very good read. Small press, small print run. Time travel is real! Scientific prodigy Randall Patton has had a breakthrough that allows travel through the timestream, which immediately led to the creation of The Argus, the temporal law enforcement organization that polices the time/space continuum. After an accident renders one of the members of The Argus insane, he begins killing off the others – except they are all versions of Randall Patton from various points in his own life! Who can stop Randall but himself?

Billionaire Island #1 – A savage satire reuniting the critically acclaimed team behind DC’s The Flintstones, Mark Russell (Second Coming) and Steve Pugh (Harley Quinn: Breaking Glass), in an all-new creator-owned series! Welcome to Billionaire Island, where anything goes…if you can afford it. But the island’s ultra-rich inhabitants are about to learn that their ill-gotten gains come at a very high price.

King Of Nowhere #1 – Interesting new series from Boom. Lots of options coming out of Boom. Tyler Jenkins provides art and that is not a bad thing.

Reprint of the Week
Dollar Comics Swamp Thing #57 – Swamp Thing walks the planet Rann-and meets Adam Strange! Classic Alan Moore Swamp Thing for a buck.

Covers of the Week
KISS Zombies #4 Ken Haeser Cover – This series has done a good job with homages to classic books. Here we get Ken Haeser’s homage to Crime Suspenstories #22.

Cimmerian Queen Of The Black Coast #1 Mirka Andolfo Cover – Great looking cover featuring a more adult take on Conan.

TPB Read of the Week
Wyrd TPB – Want to read a cool deconstructionist super hero story? Check out Wyrd from Dark Horse. You will never look at Superman and other heroes the same way again.

The One to Watch
Crow Lethe #1 – the regular A cover features art by Peach Momoko who has been getting a lot of attention. These aren’t going for more than cover price right now but that could always change.

Marvel Pick of the Week
Magnificent Ms Marvel #13 – Already selling for above cover. Introduces a new character. (Make sure to check Mycomicshop first)

DC Pick of the Week
Batman #90 – A no brainer. Selling for over cover, part of a hot story line, first full appearance of The Designer. (Make sure to check Mycomicshop first)

Small Press Pick of the Week
Join the Future #1 – New Aftershock series by Zack Kaplan. Kaplan’s books have been being picked up for options. Not a bad idea to keep an eye out for this one.

  1. MCS sold out of Batman 90 quick. But check back for it showing up again.

Magnificent Ms. Marvel is available for cover at Midtown…has been all week… it sure why people are paying 2.5x cover plus shipping on eBay….doesn’t anyone look elsewhere??

    1. Don’t think it’s going to heat up much either. Amulet is a throw away character with pretty uninteresting power.
