Comic Picks of the Week for Delivery 3/18/20

Every week, hundreds of new comics hit the stands, each with potential. Some live up to that potential. We pick the ones we think have the best shot at heating up. Here are our picks of the week for delivery 3/18/20:

New #1’s

Artemis And The Assassin #1 – New Aftershock series by Phil Hester. What happens when a time-traveling assassin and a spy from 1944 try to kill each other? For a price, a top-secret assassination organization will travel through time and interfere with watershed moments. Trained as the agency’s top assassin, Maya is sent to kill Virginia Hall, the deadliest spy of WWII. Charged with carrying important plans about the invasion of Normandy to the Allied troops, Virginia’s death would have a cataclysmic effect on WWII as we know it.

Dragon Whisperer #1 – New Red 5 steampunk series about Rosalinda Eberhardt who is the Dragon Whisperer.

Starship Down #1 – A cultural anthropologist consults with US Naval Intelligence to investigate the discovery of an extraterrestrial ship buried under the ice for thousands of years in Siberia. The meddling Russians, Vatican officials, the international media spotlight, and her own insecurities all threaten her efforts to keep the fabric of society from crumbling. A brand-new thriller with blistering art from Andrea Mutti.

X-Ray Robot #1 – I love Mike Allred art. Max is a family man seeking a more interesting life. While conducting a new experiment at work, the fabric of his reality is torn before his eyes, and a robotic figure appears, claiming to be his 277-year-old self. The robot is able to ‘X-Ray’ multiple dimensions and battles a nihilistic entity from another dimension who wants to take all life to its “Pre-Big Bang” status. Max and the robot embark on an interdimensional roadtrip through past and future to take down the “Nihilist” and save the universe!

Spider-Woman #1 – New launch for Spider-Woman in a new costume. Many great covers on this one so pick the one you like. Unlike Volume 6 Jessica Drew is not running around pregnant in this series. Be on the look out for the secret variant

AWA Series Launch
Archangel 8 #1 – the new series by Michael Moreci and C. P. Smith
Hotell #1 – New anthology Horror series by John Lees and Dalibor Talajic
Red Border #1 – Political horror from Jason Starr and Will Conrad
Resistance #1 – Sci-Fi super-hero book that ties all the AWA releases together, by J. Michael Straczynski and Mike Deodato.

Captain Marvel #16 Boss Logic Variant – Just an awesome cover. There is a regular and virgin variant.

Small Press Pick of the Week
Screaming Horror #1 – From the solicitation. “In the early 1990’s FantaCo published two comics by Gurch Singh: Tales of Screaming Horror and Vault of Screaming Terror. The Gurch’s wildly imaginative horror illustrations took the comic community by storm and now each of those original issues sell for well over $100.00 on the collectors market. By popular demand we have contracted with The Gurch to release all the stories from Tales of Screaming Horror as the first issue in an ongoing horror comic series! The Gurch has painstakingly re-lettered and re-mastered each page for the best possible reproduction. He’ll also be including some brand new, never-before-published illustrations done just for this issue! These are some of the most sought-after stories that FantaCo has ever published and The Gurch is super-hot now – so order accordingly!”

Picks of the Week

Year Of the Villain Hell Arisen #4 – Surprisingly the follow up issue to the Punchline issue is doing well on the secondary market. Worth picking and flipping. (Check Mycomicshop.com first.)

Nightwing #70 – Another possible Fomo book but doing well. Again this could be a grip and flip kind of issue. (Check Mycomicshop.com first.)

Batman #91 – Batman fam vs. the assassins. Another good flip opportunity this week. (Check Mycomicshop.com first.)
