Mycomicshop.com Closed due to Coronavrius Pandemic

With local comic shops closing, online is looking like a great way to get your comic fix. But one of the largest online retailers is closing for the time being due to the state shut down in Texas. Mycomicshop.com, aka Lone Star Comics is closing their doors for a few weeks.

Mycomicshop has the following notice posted on they site.

The coronavirus shutdown has come to MyComicShop. We are temporarily ceasing operations in accordance with new direction from the governor of Texas. We are not accepting new orders at this time. Please see MyComicShop status updates for more.

The stars update reads:

We are temporarily closed in accordance with direction from the governor of Texas that requires non-essential businesses to close beginning Thursday, April 2. We will update this page as new information becomes available.

Affected services:

  • Orders: we are not accepting any new orders at this time. On Wednesday, April 1 we have arranged for a late pickup from UPS to allow us to get as many orders as possible processed and shipped before we have to close. If there are any orders that we are unable to get done in time, the order will be canceled and refunded. We hope we don’t have to do that and all orders can be shipped.
  • Auctions: the weekly auction that began Monday, March 30 has been canceled. Upcoming auctions in April are postponed indefinitely until we will be able to reopen.
  • Selling and consigning: we are not currently accepting new offers of comics to sell to us or consign with us. Any shipments that are already in transit to us will be safely held upon arrival but will not be processed until we reopen.

  1. They were up yesterday until 5pm Texas time, which implies they knew they were shutting down at the end of the month and din’t say anything. I heard that they promised to fulfill all orders made before the crunchy and turned that into “maybe” while they’re holding payment. Just another footnote in the sordid history of the worst retailer ever; they deserve to go out of business.

  2. Sent my orders to the wrong address horrible customer service wouldn’t refund me even though it was their error refunded myself thru PayPal and told them I would bring hell upon their business so here it is. Dont bother applying for a small business loan through the care program I’ll reject that shit and have mycomicshop investigated for fraud.

    1. Biggest rip offs on the internet, and completely stuck up their own butts. They sold me a Hulk comic at VF with a cover ripped in half and said my standards were too high. They refused to refund a box that was damaged in shipping because technically, everything was still in the same grade even with all the corners dented. They stealth banned me and any other family members sharing my last name (with different credit cards) from the site without an explanation because they are gutless cowards. Expose them for the frauds they are!

    1. That’s one shop I won’t mind seeing go out of business.. Sorry, but they don’t don’t deserve any sympathy in our current situation.

  3. I personally have never had a problem buying or selling to Lonestar comics, my experiences have always been positive, I for one hope they pull through this as well as all comic related stores

    1. I buy a lot from them. Weekly books and high dollar back issues and have never had a problem. Have sold to them and a book that I bought from them that was graded as a NM sold back to them in the same bag and board, never opened, was graded by them as a VF. I don’t like that at all.

      1. When Batman Damned was blowing up, we had around 90 extra copies, and they were paying $38 a piece so I said to heck with it and sent them 10. They accepted 7 as NM and graded the other 3 at VF. Told them to send back the VFs rather than taking $24 each for them.

Wound up selling all 3 copies to a regular for $60 each. He slabbed 2 of the 3, kept one raw. Slabs came back 9.8 and 9.6.

I frankly didn’t care that I was probably sending them 9.8s and getting paid a 9.4 price. $38 was fine when I had so many. But you’re gonna sit there and tell me this specific 9.8 is a VF? Come on.

The weird grading aside I’ve never had an issue with Buddy. Done probably $25k in business with him over the years. And his website is a de facto price guide at this point. It’s so much faster to get a quick and dirty price through his site than trying to scroll eBay and guess condition. I use gocollect for most $100+ stuff (and GPA for the $800+ stuff). But there’s no better site than Buddy’s to get a 3-second price check on a random 6.0 15c Avengers back issue. Chuck could have maintained his web dominance for years but never updated his interface. Buddy invested the time and money and flew past him. I get in a run of an offbeat title now and the first thing I do is a quick scroll on MCS to see if there are any globs of yellow or issues sold out. I know those are the ones I need to double check for possible keys. All the grey background in stock stuff is common. Offbeat titles that are in stock at $3 or less in a VF? Straight into my dollar bins. Never have to look at them again. He’s asking $6 for a VF of a mainstream title? I know I can slap $5 on my 9.0-9.2 and my price is fair enough.

I’ll pay a little “tax” here and there on my MCS transactions as a giveback for using his site as a price guide. Seems only fair.

  4. Just wondering where most of y’all buy new books from.? I’ve only used MCS so no experience with others. Thanks Kevin

    1. I used TFAW Mycomicshop and midtown. Each have their pluses and minuses. Each have their detractors and fans. I mostly buy from lcs but sometimes I don’t.
