DC Shipping Again – Upcoming Books Preview

So DC is shipping again, bypassing Diamond. Some are happy about this while others are crying foul. Regardless of the politics behind it all, here at CHU we talk about new books, so that’s what we’re gonna do.

So please leave the politics out and just talk about the books that might be hitting a few store shelves (which most will be fulfilled by online sales and or curbside pickup to start off with most shops who are actually getting these books).

The first books are slated to be available April 28th with a FOC cutoff of this Tuesday the 21st (someone correct me if I’m wrong on those dates).

Now the first wave of books is small, 5 total titles, could be some potential for a few of them. It’ll be interesting if Diamond already had some of these on hand sitting in boxes and these are new printings by DC, shipped to the new distributors. If there’s something slightly different in the printing details, like date, etc, that might make them collectible.

  1. Soooo how does that work? Shops place the order through diamond, right? How does DC know who to ship to?

Also, what happens when the books arrive and the store is shuttered? Are these shipped by ups?

  2. From what I have read, shops are not ordering these through Diamond but through the new distibutors which retailers say are DCBS and Midtown comics…you have to set up a new account with one of those two in the next few days.

  3. Diamond had a new industry press release this morning confirming that no DC orders had been canceled, that Diamond would have all these intercalary books available (including stock for reorders) and that they’d be shipped on a gradual schedule once Diamond resumes.

The obvious spec play is to order them from LunarMidCBS and then go on every message board trying to convince folks they’ll never see copies from Diamond and cash in on FOMO. But unless there are indeed some sort of printing changes that make them variants, it’s scare-tactics-spec not true investment spec. I tip my hat to the folks who can identify future demand and get in early (like buying $2.29 and $2.49 newsstand price variants from 2000 before folks caught on to them). But pump-and-dump is pump-and-dump.

    1. Look at Diamond retailer Monthly FOC. Everything has been wiped from DC. Then these new distributors just happen to have the full line up on FOC 4/23 ? 2+2 isnt equaling 4 right now. something is going on that none of us know about. I hate to be “that guy” but im ordering from UCS “just incase”. Besides, DC has repeatedly said we can return all books until june something.

    1. “Also want to throw out there hat TFAW has the Tynion signed Dynamic Forces Batman #89 pre-order for only $23.99 currently, for you autograph collector junkies.“

TFAW is calling it an “encore edition” and “ FINAL COVER WILL VARY! ALLOCATIONS MAY OCCUR!”

So this appears to not be a signed third printing.

Not sure when FOC is, and DF is hit or miss…but I’m having new comic/spec withdrawal so taking a chance on this one…it’ll go nicely with my 1st, 2nd and 3rd prints….

      1. Midtown has it listed as such too. I think that Encore is just how DF is describing it. But yes, I don’t think it’s a first print but could fall in line as second print or they pulled from the 3rd print, maybe not knowing if the cover will change, so that’s why the “Final Cover Will Vary”.. but don’t expect different art entirely. But yeah, definitely for you autograph junkies out there and completists who are getting copies of all the printings.
