Throwback Thursday

This week we takes us back to 1966..  where we meet a very important character who was an early love interest of Captain America and was a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent.

That person is Peggy Carter, who made her first appearance in Tales of Suspense #77 way back in May of ’66.

It’s a flashback sequence of Captain America’s early war time love interest that also spans two issues prior in Tales of Suspense #75, but she was a very obscure shadowy small figure in that issue, a cameo appearance, see below.

Yes, that’s her in the Jeep with Steve. Maybe we could come up with a cameo described as a “Scribble Cameo” cause that’s about what it amounts to.

But Tales of Suspense #75 did first introduce Sharon Carter however. He sees Sharon who looks like Peggy (since you know, they’re related) and is reminded and thinks it’s her. He discovers Sharon is an agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. during his pursuit after he sees a man bump into her on purpose to steal a tube she was carrying, likely information for S.H.I.E.L.D..

Here’s a fun fact, Sharon and Peggy were first introduced as sisters, Peggy being her older sister but they realized the timeline didn’t work out all that well so it was later changed to Aunt Peggy.

These issues are still easy to obtain and definitely in the affordable range. I don’t think we’ll ever see the end of Peggy or Sharon Carter so these are nice additions to any collection for you first appearance junkies out there.
