Alana’s Weekend Specs: DC In Full Force

Aloha CHUniverse and welcome back to Weekend Specs! This week we focus on the Green Lanterns coming to media and the Flashpoint movie. Flashpoint should be easy for most as we already have done a weekend specs for it when it happened on the CW. Green Lanterns are a good cheap spec and we will focus on not Hal, Alan, John, or Guy but the other lesser known Lanterns. Let’s jump in!

Flash vol2 #197, Secret Files And Origins #3 – 1st Hunter Zolomon, Zoom

Wally West’s greatest archenemy and the catalyst for Flashpoint. Zoom kills Barry’s father thus causing Barry to travel in time and save his mother from Reverse Flash creating the timeline Flashpoint. Zoom was done amazingly well on CW. They may rewrite a different character in this role in film to not have to compete with that. Great 1st appearance, great character and villain, these books are cheaper today than they were when Flashpoint happened on CW.

Flash #139 1st Reverse Flash

Eobard is Flash’s greatest villain and has to be in Flashpoint no matter what. The book is off its all time highs so good time to get one now if you don’t have it.

Flash vol.2 #138, #141 1st Black Flash

If you use the speed force to mess with time this guy shows up. Good curveball spec for the movie.

Doom Patrol vol. 2 #14 1st Dorothy Spinner

Already posted here on CHU but was suppose to be part of this weeks write up. Ape Face girl Dorothy Spinner is the main focus of this season of Doom Patrol so far. Also Doom Patrol vol2 #23 1st Red Jack worth a dollar bin search.

Green Lantern #20, Justice League #30, #31

1st Jessica Cruz

New 52 FCBD 2012 1st Simon Baz

These two characters 1st appearances are cheap and great specs. Jessica’s 1st appearance is muddy we get a hand and a name in Green Lantern #20 and from her hand she appears to be the Green Lantern already. Justice League #30 we get a last panel cameo of Jessica with the ring choosing her she doesn’t put it on it’s one panel. #31 we get 1st cover 1st full appearance and origin. Simon Baz is a much easier 1st appearance with only one book to get.

Green Lantern vol3 #48 as Kyle Rayner #50 as Green Lantern.

Let’s not forget about this Lantern and where he could fit in with the movies and coming tv show. Parallax the villain from the original Green Lantern movie also 1st appears in #50. Good cheap spec which is my favorite.

Green Lantern #25 1st Atrocitus

Well there is a great villain for the Lanterns created by Geoff Johns and I imagine he will have his day. Used to be dirt cheap, now commanding $40.

Green Lantern #16 1st Star Sapphire

So people have changed the wiki and try and call her the 2nd Star Sapphire she is not she’s the 1st. The golden age character with two appearances and one modern appearance is a retcon and bad one at that because it was never used after the modern appearance retconning the character as Star Sapphire. So don’t worry about the golden age retcon this is the book you want. A major key for old Green Lantern books.

Far Sector #1 1st Sojourner Mullein

A new, recent, Green Lantern from this past year, you can get cheap and maybe still find on racks at the LCS. Green Lantern books are more neglected than Aquaman books now so get them while they’re still cheap.

Tales of the Green Lantern Corps Annual #2 1st Sodom Yat

Sodom Yat also known as Ion is one of the most powerful DC characters and the prophesied Green Lantern savior. This book is also the beginning of the Blackest Night storyline. Good character cheapish book.

Green Lantern #201 1st Kilowog

Kilowog is a powerful and smart Green Lantern. He was also part of the Ryan Reynolds Green Lantern movie.

Green Lantern #90 1st Saarek

A important Green Lantern with the ability to communicate with the dead.

Green Lantern vol3 #20 1st Boodikka

A shape shifting female Lantern with immense power.

Green Lantern #217 1st Driq

Driq is a Lantern that died at the hands of Sinestro, his ring has kept him alive. A comedic zombie Lantern.

Green Lantern #30 1st Katma Tui

Katma is the Lantern that took over Sinestro’s sector when he turned evil. She has been killed and resurrected and a main part of the Lantern Corps.

That’s it for this week, a lot of repeats from past weekend specs but it’s always good to refresh. Frankly I’m excited for the coming Flashpoint movie and all the Lantern coming media. DC films has an opportunity to right its course after a couple lackluster films and bring justice to the Lanterns. A lot of this may still be found in $1 boxes so be on the lookout. Next week we will talk Gwen meant to get that out before this. So as always thanks for reading stay safe and happy hunting

  1. Some late to the party spec. There is some discrepancy to what is the first appearance of Aliens, Dark Horse Presents #24 use to be labeled first Aliens by CGC and now no longer says that on the label, so now people are chasing Aliens #1 as being first Aliens. I do wonder where does CGC’s liability start and begin, they should have to compensate anyone that bought this book when they had it labeled as 1st Aliens or at least it should ruin their reputation. But there is no reason to argue Aliens make 3 appearances prior to DHP #24 and Aliens #1. The 1st appearance of Aliens in November 1979 was in Cracked #164 1 many years before DHP or Aliens. The 2nd appearance takes place in Mad #212 1980 January, and the 3rd appearance in Mad #268 1987 November. DHP and Aliens series appearances took place in 1988. Also Dark Horse Presents #36 1st AvP is worth a mention here too.

    1. MAD and Cracked are parody books. I wouldn’t call whatever is in those parody books as a 1st anything.

Nice thorough write up, Alana. Lots of potential here.

    2. Although alien appears earlier in Cracked and Mad, the big three probably remains Alien illustrated story, Alien 1 and Dark horse presents 24. Being first in the minds of market is more important than actual first appearance.

      1. I would add Heavy Metal may and june 1979, the May book being the first. They predates the collected book

  2. Nice job. Always cool to have a list of key books not on people’s radar that may be hiding in long boxes.

  3. another amazing job.your lists are awesomesauce.does anyone know where I can find a list of every first appearance of all 74 people that live inside crazy jane?i am loving the doom patrol.and episoe 4 was just brilliant .have a happy 4th of july stay safe I loe you all blind adam out
