Spotlight on FCBD Star Wars Books

Free Comic Book Day, mass producing cheap copies of comics for shops to give away in hopes of gaining new customers. While the print runs on the books are large, many are store stamped, or ripped apart by kids, or just not treated well. Not saying they are rare, but they can end up being valuable. We have seen this with Sixth Gun, Umbrella Academy, My Hero Academia, and more. Here is a spotlight on the FCBD Star Wars books, some of which are doing well on the after market.

2002 – Dark Horse Comics – Star Wars Tales A Jedi’s Weapon – The first Star Wars FCBD is not the best example. Most recent completed books closed for around a $1.

2004 – Dark Horse Comics – Star Wars Clone Wars Adventures – First comic book appearance of General Grievous. Recent sales between $25-$0. One recently Sold for $1.19 but was store stamped.

2005 – Dark Horse Comics – Star Wars 2005 FCBD Special – Again, not much on this one. Recent sales for $1.50-$3.50

2006 – Dark Horse Comics – Star Wars/Conan FCBD Flip Book – recent sales around $2 but bak in May these were hitting $10-12.

2009 – Dark Horse Comics – Star Wars Clone Wars FCBD – Most recent sales have been between $5-$10. Several sold in sets with….

2011 – Dark Horse Comics – Star Wars Clone Wars FCBD – One of the bigger ones. Features Savage Opress on cover and in the book. A copy sold for $59.99 two days ago.

2012 – Dark Horse Comics – Star Wars / Serenity FCBD Flip Book – This is a nice cheap one. Adam Hughes cover. A flip with another popular sci-fi title, but no recent sales. Last sale was in April for $1.49. Before that, several in the $9 range.

2013 – Dark Horse Comics – Star Wars / Avatar The Last Air Bender FCBD Flip Book – Three titles in the book. Nice white Darth Vader and Boba Fett cover. Recent sales from between $6 – $10.

2018 – IDW Comics – Star Wars Adventures FCBD 2018 – Last solo sale was above $6. The rest have sold in sets with other books.

2019 – IDW Comics – Star Wars Adventures FCBD 2019 – $2-$4 on this one.

Halloween Comicfest

These are the Hidden Gems of the free books.

2016 – Marvel Comics – Star Wars Darth Vader Doctor Aphra Halloween Comicfest – Reprints Darth Vader #3, first appearance of Doctor Aphra. Sales of $2-$4.

2019 – Marvel Comics – Star Wars Age of Rebellion Boba Fett #1 – Reprints the Star Wars Age of Rebellion Boa Fett #1 issue. Last sale at $1.50, but before that, sales of $5-$7.

So there you go, check those bins and stores for freebies, the biggest two to look out for are the 2004 Star Wars Clone Wars Adventures and the 2011 Star Wars Clone Wars FCBD.

  1. I actually didn’t know about 2011 SW:Clone wars one before I found one in wild in $1 bins w store stamp .
