As promised, the Covrprice.com runners-up list. Think of this as the second half of the top 20.
#11 THOR #2 3RD PRINT (MARVEL, 2020) Sellers are listing this issue of the 1st appearance of BLACK WINTER. While it’s mostly a cameo of his hand (and power), it’s still trending. The standard cover is getting $55, turning buyers to this more affordable (and possibly underordered) 3rd print. It sold 33 copies, had a 7-day trend of 132% and had a high sale of $19.99 for a raw copy.
#12 BATMAN #28 (DC, 2014) Back in 2014, with the addition of DUKE and BLUEBIRD, the Bat-Family was expanding in fun ways. Both characters were welcomed editions until they were mismanaged with bad costume designs and writer’s who underused them when Rebirth began. However, it seems that Bluebird is catching some new wind as she sold 10 copies, had a 7-day trend of 433% and had a high sale of $14.99 for a raw copy.
#13 THOR #5 (MARVEL, 2020) The first full BLACK WINTER is hot, hot, hot… and most likely will be for a while (if he does ANYTHING similar to Knull). This sold 44 copies, had a 7-day trend of 88% and had a high sale of $349.99 for a CGC 9.8.
#14 MILES MORALES SPIDER-MAN #6 (MARVEL, 2019) Starling spec is starting to pick back up. After heating up upon release in 2019, this first appearance of STARLING (Vulture’s Granddaughter) cooled down quickly to cover price for almost a year. Things are picking back up as it sold 24 copies, had a 7-day trend of 160% and had a high sale of $119.95 for a CGC 9.8 and $40 raw.
#15 THOR #4 (MARVEL, 2020) The 1st Black Winter in Cameo is now a heavy debate with issue #2. Still, this book is still selling… even if the favor is leaning towards #2. It sold 25 copies, had a 7-day trend of 134% and had a high sale of $80.01 for a CGC 9.8.
#16 NEGAN LIVES #1 (IMAGE, 2020) This is the first time the standard cover made the list. It’s been a strong seller on its own. It sold 30 copies, had a 7-day trend of 104% and had a high sale of $10 for a raw copy.
#17 STRANGE ACADEMY #2 (MARVEL, 2020) Strange Academy has a fire burning under it. With the #1’s various covers and printings getting hotter and hotter, collectors are now turning to this 2nd issue. It sold 21 copies, had a 7-day trend of 148% and had a high sale of $13.95 for a raw copy.
#18 ACTION COMICS #689 (DC, 1993) The fact that the BIGGEST news out of SDCC AT HOME was Zack Snyder including the black Superman suit in his Snyder cut of JUSTICE LEAGUE is telling how lackluster the event was. (insert dying Pac-man sound) Still, being the only news helped this first appearance of that “back to life” black suit to sell 21 copies, had a 7-day trend of 146% and had a high sale of $14.99 for a raw copy.
#19 BATMAN VS. PREDATOR #1 (DC, 1991) An interesting POLYGON article came out last week talking about how great this book is (and it really is fantastic) and highlighted how it will never be reprinted due to all rights now being under Disney. And once you tell people they can’t have something… it starts selling. It sold 22 copies, had a 7-day trend of 136% and had a high sale of $15 for a raw copy.
#20 STRANGE ACADEMY #2 ARTHUR ADAMS VARIANT (MARVEL, 2020) As mentioned above, Strange Academy has a fire burning under it. With the #1 various covers and printings super hot, collectors are now turning to this 2nd issue AND its variants. Doyle Dormammu is one of the popular new characters, helping this variant sell 19 copies, had a 7-day trend of 155% and had a high sale of $32 for a raw copy (though most are selling for $20 right now).
The Steampunk variant for Batman 28 is hard to find and only two listed compared to several regular covers. I was lucky to find that variant at my LCS for cover in back issues!
I was thinking the same thing…found one on Amazon from a dealer I have bought from before for about half ratio (1:25). Why not.
