Every week, hundreds of new comics hit the stands, each with potential. Some live up to that potential. We pick the ones we think have the best shot at heating up. Here are our picks of the week for delivery 8/19/20:
Middle of August already and summer is just flying by. Smaller week than the last couple. Here is what is on tap this week:
New #1’s
Voyage To The Stars #1 – New series directly tied into a very popular podcast. Has crossover potential and I am sure the podcast is advertising the book.
Maestro #1 – 30 years in the making, the origin of the Maestro. Wonder if they will tie it in to Immortal Hulk at all?
Power Rangers Drakkon New Dawn #1 – Fans of the Rangers are thrilled with the introduction of the Ranger Slayer. Here she goes up against a fan favorite Rangers Villain.
Final Issue
Harley Quinn #75 – The final issue of Harley Quinn features Harley facing off against Punchline.
Notable Reprints
Catwoman #23 2nd Ptg – First appearance of Catgirl gets a new printing. I am picking one up just because. I sold the heck out of the first prints.
Venom #25 3rd print – I have been stacking all things Cates and reaping the rewards. The ratio variant for this one means there will probably be a ton of copies out there so do not go crazy, but will pick one up at least. TFAW has some of the Second Prints in stock if people are looking for a copy.
Venom #26 2nd Print – to me this is the more desirable of the two reprints for Venom this week. The reprint of the first full appearance of Virus and him on the cover as well.
Reprint of the Week
Something Is Killing The Children #7 Cover C 2nd Ptg – SIKTC has been hot and their recent 2nd printings have blown up. Grabbing one if I see them.
Small Press Gems
Ninjas And Robots #1 – Very cool looking small press book. Could be hard to find. Premise alone sells it for me but the cover art looks great as well. Sold out early at Midtown so there is interest.
Atlantis Wasn’t Built For Tourists #1 – awesome looking new Scout comic. Scout has been doing well on the secondary market with their new releases. Will be picking up a copy or two.
Shadow Service #1 – Cool looking new Vault series about a witch private eye. Again, the premise sold me on this one.
Pick of the Week
Thor #6 – Potentially something big occurs. The spoiler cover seems to give away some details. Spoilers coming up, but do not sleep on Donny Cates Thor books, they have been on fire lately. Check Mycomicshop to see if they have cover price copies up.
