Raw sales of Thor #5 3rd Print have been hitting sales of $39.99 in pre-sale. This is a book we featured on the Final Order Cut-off highlights previously. If you hurry, you can still get these at a discount off cover price.
Thanks to Drogio for pointing this out on the forum, if you are not a forum member, you are missing out on some great stuff.
Final order cut off for Thor #5 3rd print was 8/10/20. Since then the prices have creeped up on the book wit4h the most recent raw books selling for $38-$39.99.
The cheapest prices on eBay right now are $19.99 and up.
Things from Another World still have these open for pre-order for cover price plus a discount. I am sure these will not last long and will sell out today.
They are limited to one per customer.
Wouldnt let me add to cart. Might be gone already?
Maybe.
Yup, that means they’re sold out. Their website doesn’t update the button so quickly from what I’ve seen.
This was also already past FOC so they were likely selling off whatever extra orders they had available.
It let me add. It just goes to the preorder screen. Only my 2nd time ordering on that site.
Took a chance with Forbidden Planet, but I don’t have great confidence that I’ll actually receive anything.
Next Venom #3 3rd Print? Probably not but if it is 1/4 as hot that’s still a $100 + book.
Likely not, as the print run will be much higher.
Print runs don’t determine value.. Demand does..
Print run is the supply end of the equation. It absolutely has a part to play in determining price. If Venom 3 reprint had a print run like 90’s Xmen 1, or Spawn 1, we wouldn’t be seeing these prices.
Yes but that’s not my direct point when I say demand determines value. Supply plays it’s part when demand kicks into high gear.
But those books you mentioned, sure we could see these go up, if the demand goes up. But yes, there’s plentiful on the market, it’s easy to obtain so it keeps them in check but anything new could renew interest, making them more appealing and wanted again. These are the books that get dumped when people need to pay bills, people die and collections get sorted, split up and sold. Nothing is impossible for these to go up though. As time goes on, more books will get lost, damaged, tucked away into collections.. New fans will seek these out.
New Mutants #98 had huge print runs as well, probably millions upon millions of copies and it flirted with the 1k mark raw at one time. Didn’t stop this book from maintaining the several hundred dollar average for value.
Spawn had millions and millions of copies printed and a nice raw copy can sell for $40 or more.. despite me yanking the NM copy I had out of a Half Price Books several years ago for $5.
X-Men #1.. meh, X-Men are dead spec.. I think most people are tired of X-Men… it’s pushed too much and people are want fresh new characters..
But ultimately, demand is what sets the value of what people are willing to pay. There are countless books each week that have miniscule print runs that are worthless and stay worthless. Its not until there is “demand” that these become valuable. So again, print runs don’t determine value, demand does. Small print runs only affect availability which can cause the prices to go higher due to “DEMAND” 😉
The ComicMint has them available at $9.95, still less than eBay. It looks like they don’t have a limit.
They had 5 packs for $15 bucks this morning for insiders. I ordered two packs earlier. The reposted the story and the 5 packs sold out.
Ordered a few before FOC…just wondering when they will announce the 4th print. It’s bound to happen.
going to try now .
I’ve wrote it before; I really do like these later printings with new covers. I’m just wondering if collectors will get fatigued with the sheer amount that keep coming out or if they will keep eating it up.
Do the people that want to catch up on the story after missing the first print get screwed when the later printings get hot?
In any case, I saw the writing on this one and pre-ordered 11 copies
Nice!
I ordered three of these from TFAW before FOC but forgot I pre-ordered another from aandzcomics….Anyway, looking at that sale it shows they sold 750 copies of Thor #5 3rd print. That’s a lot for one dealer. I’m sure TFAW, Midtown and MCS had large orders too. So, after seeing that I am wondering what the print run is on it. My guess is 10 to 12k. If that were the case it would still be a fairly small print run but not tiny. Again, just a total guess on my part.
My guess is around 25-60k. Soo many pumped it in multiple spec groups before Foc and by the hundreds of comments it seems like most grabbed anywhere from 10-100 copies each. Some retailers saw this as a book to up orders on as well.
Could be. Either way, it is looking like the later print craze is catching on with most.It will be difficult to have another Venom #3.
But the cover was only released 4 days before foc. Also of course us speculators are in the know, what about all the average collectors who are always late to the party.
