We open things up to hear from you. A free for all.

The 298th edition of the open forum!

Back issues are still running wild. My sales have been through the roof. I had to upgrade my mailbox to fit how many packages going out, and coming in, I have had. How are you all doing with sales?

Did you know we have the forum up and running, you can check it out at the official CHU Forum site, go over and sign up.

As always we also want to hear about your weekly pickups.
So, What were your pick ups?

  1. Picked up a couple of early Brandon Graham books:
    Universe So Big 1 (paid $20, usually when I find it, it is $100-200, #2 seems to be easier to find, I have a signed/remarqued #2)
    A-Bomb 1

    Sex Criminals 30 (I think the next issue is the last of the series but is numbered out of sequence)

    Aggretsuko 5 (for my wife, the lcs puts it in the kids section when it should not)

  2. This weeks pickups…..
    Death Metal Guidebook 1:25 multiple firsts.
    Star Wars Obsession #1 1st Asajj Ventress
    Deceased Dead Planet #1 4th print Peach x5
    Thanos #15 4th print
    Star Wars #4 NM
    New Avengers #1 for cheap
    Venom #25 2nd print virgin
    Venom #25 3rd print 1:25
    Something is killing the Children #7 2nd print
    Captain Marvel #20
    Maestro #1 Gauntlet Virgin
    a couple other random later printings that are preordered.

    1. I’m reading Star Wars Dark Disciples and it good. It has Asajj Ventress’ back story. It’s good so far.

      I’m going to look for her 1st appearance.

      1. I bought 20 copies of cover A. Shoot me a Message on the forums and I can send you one for cover plus shipping if you’d like one.

  3. So far I got the DC books…they were all pretty “meh” this week I mean you can’t really drag on events so long

  4. Everyone see the 3rd print of Thor 5 is a $30 book? At least that’s what the cheapest copy on eBay is at the moment (trade dress).

      1. People just go right for eBay instead of online shops. I don’t get it either. Guess it’s worth keeping an eye on…if anything there’s potential with that one.

  5. picked up deceased dead planet #1 peach 5 copies.the true story of smoky the bear #1 &a Deadpool movie promo shirt .light week for me .love you all blind adam out

  6. Sharon Carter wears the Iron Patriot in Captain America #22. That explains why Captain America had on lipstick on one of the covers. That cover seems to be removed now.

  7. Pick ups for the week:
    Something is Killing the Children #7 (2nd print) X2
    Venom #26 (2nd print)
    Maestro #1 (Loved the original 2 issue mini-series and looking forward to Peter David’s story)
    Gideon Falls #24 (cover a)
    Die! Die! Die! #12

    Spec pick ups this week:
    Darth Vader #1 2020 series (5 copies@ $3 each)
    Vengeance #1 (1st America Chavez in NM for $90-was going to pass on this, but saw that copies are now upwards of $150+ and pulled the trigger)
    Wolverine #71 (2nd print Venomized T-Rex cover for $20-with later printings getting crazy on Venom and other series, figured why not?)

    Good hunting everyone!

      1. You can find issue 2 at cover in a lot of online shops. Let me know if you’re looking (hit me up In the forums).

        As for issue 1, I’ve ordered some copies from some obscure online shops…some actually cancelled on me too. But they’re out there…hard to find though….I don’t remember seeing this book in FOC lists.

        1. I also ordered some from obscure sites. Same one as you most likely. And they are in my neck of the woods. You may be ghosting next at some of my local online shops if you catch that reference.

  8. I grabbed:

    1. Maestro #1 Game variant (looked coolest to me);
    2. Atlantis Wasn’t Built For Tourists #1 (I love me some Oregon, so a Lovecraftian comic in bumrush nowhere Oregon sounds great!);
    3. Batman 97,Nightwing 73 (gotta keep up my Joker War reading list);
    4. Wolverine 4;
    5. Thor 6 (I did manage to find one measly copy at the LCS with the slowest person of all time working the cash register. I was in a line of ten people with one $3.99 book. This person had to slowly count each book, bag and board each comic with tape, then manually type in the price of each book. Good lord it took like an hour);
    6. Star Wars Bounty Hunters 4

    Back issues:

    1. Star Wars Bounty Hunters 1 second print 4x at cover;
    2. Star Wars the Action Figure Covers open case variant at cover.

  9. Marvel came in today got maestro, Thor, Captain marvel…scout comics I’ve really been liking picked up Atlantis wasn’t built for tourists & cardinal dagon from behemoth…enjoyed both but my overall pull list is getting too big with these marvel/dc events having 400 5.99 event tie ins so might have to cut them or ask to put them on hold for a lighter week

  10. I had my grubby mitts on some new releases and went with:

    Death Metal Guidebook
    Something is Killing…7 2nd print

    Then I put the other new releases back and went with:

    Ice Cream Man #1, 1st print
    Ice Cream Man #1, 2nd print
    Justice League #30 New 52 NEWSSTAND. I was happy with that find for $20!

  11. – I found a FF #220 sitting on the top of a pile, near the cash register, that I got for $4 in ~VF.
    – I had reserved 2 copies (1 @ each store) of SIKTC #7 2nd, as soon as I saw the cover preview.
    – Capt. Marvel, Empyre X-Men #4, 2 of the Maestro A’s, Star, Thor and Valkyrie for Marvel.
    – Bats, Cats, Cats #23 2nd, Harley, JL, Nightwing, WW Annual #4, WW #59 2nd, WW Dead Earth for DC.
    (WW Annual 4 seems interesting, spec-wise [new enemies?] I don’t keep up with Wonder Woman well
    enough to know what’s going on in this issue. The LCS suggested that I grab it because a lot of folks
    were calling for it. I was told I got the last one…)
    – Atlantis Wasn’t Built For Tourists #1 is an ok read.
    – Cardinal Dagon #1 made me a little uncomfortable.
    – Disney Masters FCBD 2020 has the 1st app of Fethry Duck who appears to be a hipster and made
    everyone at the LCS laugh.
    – Drakkon #1 (I hated the TV show, but I am trying to get into the comics.)
    – Hotell #4
    – It Eats What Feeds It #2 was a good read.
    – Ninjas & Robots #1 was well illustrated and fun.
    – Once and Future is awesome!

    I picked up Dark Souls #1 1st and 2nd print from an online shop. Dark Souls is one of the best things.
    I, also, ventured into the late printing spec game with Alienated #1 3rd, Canto #3 2nd, and 2 copies of
    America #2 2nd print.

    I’m still waiting for the Heavy Metal comics to arrive. I have a few of those ordered.

    I really hope that this country can get the economy rolling, again, and kick this pandemic.
    Best of luck to you all!

  12. Pickups:
    Thor 6 covers A and B
    FCBD Donald Duck
    FCBD Investigators

    Preordered:
    Thor 5 3rd print TFAW

    Did anyone else’s store not get the FCBD Street Fighter?

  13. Picking the stores in Kansas City, MO and KS this week. Grabbed a Sentry #1 Jae Lee cover for $15 in 9.4 condition, Star Wars #16 in 9.8 shape for $25 and 4 other copies all under $10, Catwoman #23 and #24, Captain Marvel #18 B cover, Batman #96 C for $25 in 9.8, Death Metal Guide 1:25 for $30 in 9.8, Thor #6 A cover x 2, Godzilla #23 (pretty darn hard book to find period, especially in high grade raw) $15 in 8.0 can press to 9.2-9.4 (Godzilla vs. the Avengers). I got all of these books by digging, minus the Death Metal GB and Batman #96 C. The Captain Marvel 18 B and Catwoman 23 were buried in the bins where someone hid them, but I found them. Stores have no idea about Star Wars #16 yet (first Valance – Walt Simonson art and a badass story). Tomorrow I’m going to head to Lawrence KS and pick over that town. 🙂

    Comics are fun. This was a blast to find a Sentry #1 in NM for $15. I have wanted one now for a few years. The way I felt when I found the Captain Marvel 18 B and Catwoman 23 buried in the back issues under the S’s was amazing. It was a how can this be feeling, and the adrenaline of the pick, and will the store owner sell these at cover or think I pulled them out of their marked up bags and boards. I bought for cover. I have been looking for the Godzilla #23 for a friend for a few years now. I see a high grade run of Godzilla and think it’s got to be here, and it’s there!!!!!!! For $15 no problem. Elation. Then to find 5 copies of Star Wars #16 (1 for $5, 3 @ $10, and a 9.8 for $25) shows me that people aren’t paying attention and picking stores like you think they have. You actually need to look and assume nothing. Super fun, have fun everyone!!!

    1. Comics are fun. I picked up a Tales From Beanworld #1 today. Have wanted that book forever. Such a great series and so packed with details and just fun.

  14. Hoping someone in the community can help me with the value of this book……or if they have ever seen another copy of this book……”Marvel Weird World Super Special #11 WARRIORS OF THE SHADOW REALM-Artist Proof” The magazine was published in 1979 and according to Overstreet only 25 copies were made. The issues were signed by Stan Lee,John Buscema Doug Moench, Rudy Nebres and Peter Ledger. I bought it last year for 40. Canadian . It is probably an 8.5. The guide price guide has it around 70.00. I am sure it should be worth more although not interested in selling because of the signatures and rarity of the book. Makes me smile when I read about the variant prices for modern books and I have this gem in my collection. I am not sure if any of these book other than my copy still exist. I have a ton of books in my collection and this one is still one of my favorite . Any additional information on Weird World #11 someone has would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks!

    1. That’s a tough one because it is rare. 25 copies made. Good seal. Signed. Has a character named Mud-Butt in it (for real) even though it is rare I am not sure there is much demand. I haven’t seen a sold copy anywhere. I can say it is cool but can’t put a price on it. Comic Book realm has NM copies listed as $155 in their price guide though.

    2. Figure Stan Lee’s signature adds $300-500+ on a book alone. Having the 4 other signatures might add another $100+. Factor the rarity and it’s a tough call. Get it graded, hopefully you can get CGC to list the names on the label as being signed on the book, that helps. If they just write 5 names written in pen on 1st page it’s not telling. I looked up the book and most fantasy isn’t worth a whole lot. I think you’d be doing well to get $500. Anything more and I feel you’ve done very well. I just don’t think many people care. It’s still very cool, but for about 5 seconds.

      1. Stan Lee’s signature isn’t worth that much to everyone. I wouldn’t pay $5 for Stan Lee’s signature. I know he can’t sign anything now but the man signed any and everything. He’s probably got his signature on more items and documents than people are alive..

  15. Schweizerdavid May be the only one who appreciates this one. I picked up a Tales from Beanworld #1 yesterday. I haven’t seen a copy in person in so long. I had to have it. The series was amazing.
