#11 STAR WARS #68 (MARVEL, 1983) This issue re-introduces Boba Fett which includes his origin and the 1st appearance of the Mandalorians. If you haven’t heard, THE MANDALORIAN is pretty darn hot. It sold 11 copies, had a 7-day trend of 257% and had a high sale of $1,400 for a CGC 9.8.
#12 AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #53LR 1:10 HICKEY VARIANT (MARVEL, 2020) Like Jen Bartel’s Doctor Aphra cover, sometimes a nice variant is enough. Especially when it’s of Miles, which helped move 33 copies with a 7-day trend of 82% and a high sale of $24.99 for a raw copy.
#13 SOMETHING IS KILLING THE CHILDREN #1 LCSD 2020 FOIL (IMAGE, 2020) This LCSD foil variant was a popular (and affordable) LCSD book. It sold 30 copies, had a 7-day trend of 126% and had a high sale of $79 for a CGC 9.8 (pre-order).
#14 THE SPECTACULAR SPIDER-MAN #9 (MARVEL, 1977) This issue features the first appearance of WHITE TIGER. It was recently announced that actor Tenoch Huerta will be the villain in BLACK PANTHER 2. While it was not revealed WHO he will play, speculation has favored WHITE TIGER, hence the spike in price. It sold 13 copies, had a 7-day trend of 233% and had a high sale of $49.95 for a CGC 9.4.
#15 MOON KNIGHT #1 (MARVEL, 1980) While it hasn’t officially been confirmed that Oscar Issac will play the role of Moon Knight, most big news sources are stating it as fact. This first issue quickly became the most accessible key/first Moon Knight book, sending prices on a steady upward incline. It sold 18 copies, had a 7-day trend of 178% and had a high sale of $510 for a CGC 9.8.
#16 INCREDIBLE HULK #181 (MARVEL, 1974) This WOLVERINE character is going to be huge. HUGE! It sold 12 copies, had a 7-day trend of 232% and had a high sale of $7,600 for a CGC 9.2.
#17 STAR WARS #1 (MARVEL, 1977) With every other SW book going nuts, it makes sense that this original first issue should also get some attention. It sold 19 copies, had a 7-day trend of 128% and had a high sale of $524.99 for a CGC 9.6.
#18 AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #53 TSANG 1:10 VARIANT (MARVEL, 2020) Yep, another great Miles cover that’s hanging in the Top 20 still. It sold 24 copies, had a 7-day trend of 95% and had a high sale of $23.89 for a raw copy.
#19 BATGIRL #50 MIDDLETON VARIANT (DC, 2020) Here’s a book that keeps bouncing on and off the list. Watch this one closely. It might be worth picking up before Ryan Wilder possibly takes on the Batwoman mantle in comics. It sold 23 copies, had a 7-day trend of 108% and had a high sale of $79.01 for a CGC 9.8.
#20 SPAWN #1 (IMAGE, 1992) Fricking Spawn. He’s always… ALWAYS somewhere near the Top 20. Collectors LOVE this book. It sold 27 copies, had a 7-day trend of 84% and had a high sale of $140 for a CGC 9.8.
The original Star Wars comics from the 70’s and 80’s are a bit underrated and under valued in my opinion. With Star Wars being so hot these days with no end in site the first volume has a ton of potential moving forward. I wouldn’t get anything below a VF if you can help it. Right now higher grade copies outside of issue #1 & #42 are not all that expensive.
100% agree. These days, collecting seems to be about print runs, barcodes, and printings. And let’s be real, nearly every single issue even if small print run, is NM. But those Marvel 70’s/80’s Star Wars books, although high print run, how many are really out there in NM condition? Further, everyone is collecting 1st app. of Darth This, Darth That, Doctor This, General that. Barcode this, 3 print of that. Figure pack This. How about 1st appearances of Luke, Vader, Han, Yoda – icons. Legends. My grandma knows these characters.
I dunno – seems values are overblown for characters that are, yes, well known in the Mandalorian and comic book followers/lovers; but not so much outside that community.
I’m with and always will be with the legends/icons
