New #1’s
Huge Week for new series, check out some of the more interesting ones below.

Lucky Devil #1 – New Cullen Bunn series. A down-on-his-luck schlub is possessed by a malevolent demon. Just when he thinks things can’t get worse, the exorcism goes wrong . . . and he finds that somehow he’s retained all of the entity’s supernatural gifts. After a path of revenge on all the people that have wronged him, he begins to gather worshippers and form a cult. But the legions of Hell don’t take kindly to this, and they send demonic agents to murder the schlub-turned-god before he gains too much power.

Joker Presents A Puzzlebox #1 – It’s story time! The G.C.P.D. discover a mysterious corpse, a magical box, and a murderer’s row of the city’s most dangerous villains sitting in a jail cell. Now all they need to figure out is what exactly happened. Fortunately, one suspect is willing to talk. Unfortunately, it’s The Joker. Now, superstar writer Matthew Rosenberg, magnificent artist Jesus Merino, and a multitude of rising-star artists invite you to spend a night in the Gotham Central interrogation room for a dozen tales of murder, mayhem, and mystery as told by the Clown Prince of Crime himself. Can you solve this puzzle before the sun comes up?

Suicide Squad Get Joker #1 – More Joker!! Critically acclaimed and bestselling author Brian Azzarello (Batman: Damned) and Eisner Award-winning art legend Alex Maleev (Batman: No Man’™s Land) collaborate for the first time in this three-issue, oversize, Prestige plus format Suicide Squad series pitting Red Hood, Harley Quinn, Firefly, and more of DC’™s most villainous criminals against The Joker. When Task Force X’s Amanda Waller sets her sights on Batman’™s greatest foe, she enlists the Dark Knight’s former partner Jason Todd to track down the Clown Prince of Crime and put an end to his mad reign of terror.

Transformers King Grimlock #1 – Grimlock, the beloved powerhouse T-rex with an attitude and one of the strongest Cybertronians in existence, finds himself magically transported to a world of fantastical beasts and strange powers! In this savage world, where the strong rule with sword and iron, Grimlock finds a new opportunity to prove he’s the strongest there is… but as Grimlock and the human barbarian, Arko, will learn, sometimes brute strength isn’t enough. Written by Steve Orlando (Wonder Woman, Justice League of America) with art by Agustin Padilla (Dungeons & Dragons, Suicide Squad), King Grimlock features the iconic Transformers character in a solo adventure through a world of swords-and-sorcery unlike anything you’ve ever seen!

Trover Saves The Universe #1 – For fans of Rick and Morty and Mega Man! A new limited series filled with mystery, murder, and mayhem from fan-favorite author TESS STONE, set in the world of Rick and Morty co-creator JUSTIN ROILAND’s hit video game series Trover Saves the Universe! Welcome to the ICJ – Important Cosmic Jobs – where the boss ranks employees, and at the end of each month, the worst employee literally gets the axe. It’s… not a great gig. But when ICJ’s top eyehole monster winds up dead, the company’s most inept (and rival) employees, Klover and Bo, are falsely accused of his murder and hunted by the Space Cops! Now they must clear their names and unravel a conspiracy that reaches the very top…that is, if they don’t kill each other first!
Deadpool Black White & Blood #1

Not All Robots #1 – New AWA series. In the year 2056, robots have replaced human beings in the workforce. An uneasy co-existence develops between the newly intelligent robots and the ten billion humans living on Earth. Every human family is assigned a robot upon whom they are completely reliant. What could possibly go wrong? Meet the Walters, a human family whose robot, Razorball, ominously spends his free time in the garage working on machines which they’re pretty sure are designed to kill them in this sci-fi satire

Maria Llovets Porcelain #1 – Haven’t been keen on the Maria Llovet’s books, but this one sounds interesting. Beryl’s life in the desert, living with her aunt and her cat, is relatively simple…until the day she finds and enters the Dollhouse. Stuck inside an ever-changing mystery house that hunts children and turns them into dolls, Beryl goes on a psychedelic journey where she must face the notion of her own limitations and move past them…before she becomes the building’s newest prey. PORCELAIN is a labyrinth of a psychologically thrilling experience

We Dont Kill Spiders #1 – Crazy what they are naming books these days. However, this is a new Scout book done by Joseph Schmalke who has put out some great books. In the early Viking Age, a faithless Norseman detective is summoned to a Scandinavian hamlet where a series of murders have occurred. Discovering the dark and bloody history of the village he investigates the local outcast, a necromantic witch who brings his atheistic values into question. Determined to prevent further homicides the two band together to discover the identity of a serial killer.

We Promised Utopia #1 – Small press book. What if humanity saved the world today… only to destroy it tomorrow? Charismatic idealist Isabel Bari and her development of the Equivalent Carbon Credit (ECC) tied every element of the global economy to a carbon-based currency, and changed wealth accumulation principles. The comic focuses on three separate eras of humanity: the rise of the ECC in present day, the establishment of a utopian world that adopted the ECC to create harmony between human civilization and nature, and a dystopian future after the mysterious collapse of the ECC

  1. What’s up everyone. So I find myself buying more and more indie/small pub book lately. I am not much impressed with DC/Marvel driving their characters in the dirt, and rehashing the same old villains (introducing a lot that never materialize into anything). At least the small publishers have a foreseeable ending to most of their stories, or could wrap them up anytime. For me, the whole major publisher spec is weak. I truly hope media/entertainment outlets keep optioning indie books. Seems like it is the best return on investment currently. Thanks for your time, keep up the good work!!
