Covrprice.com Top Ten for Week of 10/8/21

They scour thousands of eBay sales to cultivate data to spotlight the hottest selling comics. Here is this week’s Top Ten Comics: (Please note, potential spoilers do follow, and, these results are for auction that closed last week. )

#10 GAMORA #1 | MARVEL | 2016
This book follows the current trend of “first solo series” seeing the market heat. With Nebula #1 heating up, the market figured it would also focus on her sister. Since they’ll both be returning to GUARDIANS Vol. 3, it makes sense… albeit it VERY delayed since they’ve both clearly have had a long presence in the MCU. Regardless, this first solo series sold 21 copies, had a 7-day trend of 189% and had a high sale of $80 for a CGC 9.8.

#9 MOON KNIGHT #3 ROD REIS (1:25) | MARVEL | 2021
This recurring top 10 book features the first appearance of Hunter’s Moon. As noted last week, he’s considered “the other half” of Moon Knight. While he’s not quite a villain or an ally, he follows and obeys the will of Khonshu, where Marc Spector does not. This first appearance of Dr. Badr as Hunter’s Moon. It sold 38 copies of this 1:25 variant, had a 7-day trend of 106% and had a high sale of $52.95 for a raw copy.

#8 THE BOYS #24 | DYNAMITE | 2008
It was announced almost a year ago that, per Variety, “The Boys’ Spinoff in Development at Amazon Following Massive Season 2 Launch”. Back then, it was mentioned that this series would focus on the “G-Wiz” (team of teenager’s who graduate into the “G-Men”), whose first appearances (with multiple first appearances) are in this issue (though there is a cameo appearance via headshots in issue #23). Per Deadline last week, the series was green lit by Amazon with show runners Michele Fazekas & Tara Butters. This series would focus on portraying “young superheroes on the show set at America’s only college exclusively for young-adult superheroes (run by Vought International)”. While it’s unknown who the recently announced cast will be playing, this issue is packed with first appearances. It sold 11 copies, had a 7-day trend of 484% and had a high sale of $49.99 for a NM raw copy.

#7 NEBULA #1 | MARVEL | 2020
As noted, the market suddenly started picking up Nebula’s first solo series after hearing several various youtube channels, sites and social posts mention this mostly ignored first series. This gave this regular cover a boost in price and sales with 25 copies sold, a 7-day trend of 210% and had a high sale of $40 for a raw copy.

#6 VENOM LETHAL PROTECTOR #1 | MARVEL | 1993
Without going into spoilers, Venom seems to have some longevity to his cinematic future. While already expensive, his first full appearance in Amazing Spider-Man #300 is seeing big bumps in price. The fans/ collectors that have been priced out of this first are now going after this nostalgia drive cover. It sold 43 copies, had a 7-day trend of 142% and had a high sale of $291 for a CGC 9.8.

#5 GUN HONEY #1 ADAM HUGHES TRADE DRESS | TITAN | 2021
There was a lot of pre-launch excitement around this title. This was specifically to the Adam Hughes cover that really captured the market’s attention. While the virgin and virgin foil are the most desired, this trade dress cover still sold 36 copies, had a 7-day trend of 178% and had a high sale of $29.99 for a raw copy (though prices have settled to $12).

#4 BABYLON 5 #1 | DC | 1994
Deadline is reporting that “‘Babylon 5’ Series Reboot From J. Michael Straczynski In Works At the CW”. While this property didn’t have its origins in comics, this current market IS definitely seeking out the first comic iteration. The first issue from 1994 does seem to be trending with 30 copies sold, had a 7-day trend of 385% and had a high sale of $152.99 for a CGC 9.6.

#3 MOON KNIGHT #3 | MARVEL | 2021
As mentioned, this issue features the first appearance of Hunter’s Moon. It’s unknown where or how Marvel will take this character, but either way, they’ve set him up to play a close role to Marc Spector. It flew off digital shelves with 103 copies sold, a 7-day trend of 122% and had a high sale of $20.44 for a raw copy.

#2 DEPT. H #1 | DARK HORSE | 2016
Deadline is also reporting that “Alice Waddington To Direct Adaptation Of Dark Horse Entertainment’s Graphic Novel ‘Dept. H’ For Netflix”. The first issue of this series sold 22 copies, had a 7-day trend of 624% and had a high sale of $82.95 for a CGC 9.8, with raw copies around a FMV of $28.

#1 FANTASTIC FOUR #358 | MARVEL | 1991
Unconfirmed rumors of actor Kingsley Ben-Adir possibly playing PAIBOK THE POWER SKRULL (not Super Skrull) in the upcoming Disney+ Secret Invasion (coming in 2022) has landed his first appearance in the #1 spot this week. While we wait for confirmation, it sold a massive 118 copies, had a 7-day trend of 177% and had a high sale of $325 for a CGC 9.8.
