Comic Picks of the Week for Delivery 12/22/21

Every week, hundreds of new books hit the stands, each with potential. We pick the ones we think have the best shot at heating up. Here are the picks of the week for delivery this Wednesday

Pretty small week this week. Good for the wallet. It’s Christmas week so publishers aren’t going crazy with books.

New #1’s
No Holds Bard #1 – Quirky new series from Behemoth. When Queen Elizabeth I is kidnapped, only the dramatic duo of William Shakespeare and William Page in their superhero alter-egos, THE BARD and PAGE can save her! Written in iambic pentameter, No Holds Bard is a throwback comedy adventure 400 years in the making.

Octobriana With Love #1 – New book from Dead Good Comics, very small press company, and book has a high price tag. Could be something. David Bowie was going to make a superhero movie about her. Billy Idol has a tattoo of her. And now, 50 years since her debut, celebrate the return of one of the most enigmatic comic book characters that you’ve never heard of… OCTOBRIANA WITH LOVE is an all-star, 64-page, full color softcover graphic novel, celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the cult underground Russian superhero by an exciting mix of creative talent. For centuries, immortal warrior woman Octobriana has been the champion of the oppressed. Leading a rag-tag group of freedom fighters, Octobriana travels the dimensional highways in her Wonder Machine, disrupting authoritarian regimes, overturning tyrants… and gate-crashing the best parties! In OCTOBRIANA WITH LOVE, Octobriana and her underground take on a daring rescue mission above the skies of a near future Britain to rescue Lucretia Hussain, a young vlogger destined to be a figurehead for a future revolution. To correct the course of history Octobriana clashes with her ancient nemesis Baba Yaga, leading Octobriana to relive her past and setting the stage for a whole new universe of adventures.

Phoenix Song Echo #3 Chris Bachalo Cover – Just a damn cool looking cover.

Ones to Watch
Venom #3 – New Venom series has been fleshing out the cast with new characters and villains lately. This issue is no exception. Spoilers later, but if these new characters end up meaning something these are the ones you will want to know where copies are.

Moon Knight #6 – Same as above, new series with a cast of new characters. Unsure if one will be introduced this issue, but it has been a great series so far and worth the pick up.

Small Press Pick of the Week
Tom Hollands Fright Night #1 – Picks up where the classic 1985 movie left off. So psyched about this one. There was a classic Now Comics series that I loved as a kid. Can’t promise great art but there is a nostalgia factor with this one.

DC Pick of the Week
Justice League Incarnate #2 – Very cool new character introduced to the book. Hint, a female counterpart to one of the most exciting DC Villains in the past few years. Spoilers later.

Marvel Pick of the Week
Avengers Forever #1 – The team of Jason Aaron and Aaron Kuder. Introduces Captain Carter on the cover, same as the What If series, proper. We have seen other similar versions before. Plus some interesting other potentially new characters. Spoilers later.
