Welcome to this weeks spec. This is where we pick the winners each week we (or shall I say myself) think will be spec worthy, a great read or just cool looking art on the cover.
Marvel Picks
This Spider-Verse title sometimes bring out a few surprises as we all know from the past, despite there being so many Spider characters now. Seems most can’t get enough of them. So Edge of Spider-Verse #1 (of 5) makes the list this week.
Some of the ratio variants still available at TFAW as well while most of the other cover price variants are sold out:
Edge of Spider-Verse #1 (of 5) (10 Copy Ramos Design Variant)
Edge of Spider-Verse #1 (of 5) (25 Copy Ramos Variant)
Edge of Spider-Verse #1 (of 5) (Jones TFAW Exclusive Variant)
Iron Man #22 brings forth Titanium Man (did he show up in Iron Man #21, which I have not read or verified yet anyone?). This isn’t the first time there’s been a Titanium Man. The first showed up in Tales of Suspense #69.
The Iron Man #22 (Lozano Variant) is the one to get though I think, pretty cool cover and already sold out at Midtown.
Iron Man #22 (Barends Predator Variant) is a pretty slick looking Predator theme variant by the hot new artist Barends.
DC Picks
Holy Schmoly CHUsters, I actually have more DC picks this week than Marvel!!!
Batman #126 (Cover C – Guillem March Card Stock Variant) is gonna get a lot of folks attention I think with the homage to Amazing Spider-Man #316.
Still not sure how I feel about that name though, Failsafe. So cheesy!
Dark Crisis #3 has a pretty cool Mora Design Variant of Red Canary. I think this is the winner cover for this issue. Already sold out at TFAW and others, still available at Midtown.
Harley Quinn #18 (Cover A – Jonboy Meyers) is a nice cover by Meyers who usually never disappoints but the homage cover is pretty slick as well.
Poison Ivy #3 (Cover B – Joshua Middleton Card Stock Variant) is the only artist I think can get away with the “pose” type of covers for me now that still wins me over.
But the McKinnon 1:50 Variant is my top ratio variant pick for this week for Poison Ivy #3. Love it! I’m gonna mark this one as a potential “Variant of the Year” type of cover.
Indies and Small Publisher Picks
I’m hoping for an entertaining read at minimal for Survival Street #1.
Survival Street #1 (Benjamin Dewey Variant Cover)
For anyone who grew up in the 80s, this cover for Transformers Best of the Rarities (One-Shot) will likely bring out the nostalgia for ya! Simplicity at it’s finest as well. Love it.
I love this Twig regular cover for Issue #4 but there’s also a virgin variant of it as well: Twig #4 (of 5) (Cover D – 10 Copy Strahm Virgin Variant)
Elle(s) #1 is a new title from Ablaze. Might not be for everyone but it gives me that impression of streaming show. So might be one to watch. Most of the variants already sold out at Midtown while TFAW is completely sold out of all covers.
Grim #2 (2nd Ptg Flaviano) still available at TFAW, sold out at Midtown. For you additional print completists junkies out there who are on the Grim Bandwagon.
Sacrament #1 might be an interesting read if the story is top notch! I normally like or enjoy Peter Milligan’s writing.
Vineyard #1 won me over for it’s regular cover almost but when you start talking about a story where they do sacrifices, count me in. Looking forward to this one as I hope it’s a great read. There’s also a pretty awesome Francavilla 1:15 variant as well.
