Comic Picks of the Week for Delivery 11/9/22

Every week, tons of new books hit the stands, each with potential. Some live up to that potential. We pick the ones we think have the best shot at heating up. Here are the picks of the week for delivery this Wednesday

What’s up Wednesday Warriors. Another slow week. Here is what is on tap.

New #1
Fantastic Four #1 – It’s the start of a new era for the Fantastic Four…and they’re already in a ton of trouble. Gospel #1 – New Image series. When opportunity refuses to knock for restless hero Matilde, the devil comes knocking instead. Killchella #1 – New Scout Comics Series A group of friends drive up from Los Angeles to attend an ultra-trendy music festival in the Coachella Valley desert. They soon face a bloody night of terror when a reclusive pop star making her big return after five years recruits her most fanatical devotees to assist in a massive human sacrifice ritual.

Ninja Funk #1 – A new series from Whatnot Publishing. A fun, high stakes adventure weaved together with face-melting beats, Ninja Funk follows a ragtag band of misfits as they attempt to save a universe that’s off-key.

Sabretooth And The Exiles #1 – A new chapter in the fan-favorite saga begins in brutal fashion, but when DR. BARRINGTON gets her hooks in Creed, he’ll be lucky to survive the first issue! Victor LaValle and Leonard Kirk return for this unforgettable installment in the chronicles of one of Marveldom’s most vicious mutants!

Spider-Man Lost Hunt #1 – J.M. DEMATTEIS continues to spin new webs within the past, this time partnered with artist EDER MESSIAS! Revealing secrets and answering mysteries Spidey fans have been waiting for – prepare to explore the depths of what made Kraven the Hunter the powerhouse villain he was!

WildCATs #1 – New Wildcats series by Matt Rosenberg.

One and Done
Death Of Superman 30th Anniversary Special #1 – Celebrating 30 years since the death of Superman, the special kicks off with a new Superman story and villain…DOOMBREAKER

New Golden Age #1 – As many as 13 new Golden Age heroes introduced.

Skullkickers 10th Anniversary Super Special #1 – Jim Zub and the rest of there creative team return to the world of SKullkickers for an all new story.

Notable Reprints
Detective Comics #38 Facsimile Edition – New replica edition of the first appearance of Robin. The reprinted this one in 2020 previously.

Superman #75 Special Edition – Not a replica but reprints the Death of Superman issue with interviews and more.

One to Watch
Superman Son Of Kal-El #17 – New villain makes an appearance (cameo or otherwise). According to, “(Tom) Taylor specifically mentions Red Sin coming into play in Superman: Son of Kal-El #16. ” This character will be appearing across the Superman titles.

Small Press Gem
Specs #1 – a new series from Boom. What happens when a couple of misfit teens mail-order a pair of X-ray glasses, and realize they’ve received much more than they bargained for? But all Kenny and Ted want is to not feel like outcasts in their small Ohio town. Their world is turned upside down when the Magic Specs they receive unlock a world of possibilities. Their wishes start out innocent enough, but when they wish that their bully would disappear… things take a cursed turn, with far darker consequences than they thought possible…

Small Press Pick of the Week
New York Ninja Super Special #1 – Based on the cult favorite New York Ninja from Vinegar Syndrome, bringing a magazine-sized Super Special by Ignatz award winner Charles Forsman. New York City, 1984 – Crime is at an all time high. John Liu aka the New York Ninja scours the streets night after night, searching for his wife’s killer. Meanwhile, the villainous Rattail’s new radioactive powers make him deadlier than ever.

Pick of the Week
Amazing Spider-Man #13 – After being teased a bunch of times, Gold Goblin (Norman Osborn) makes his first appearance. Will need to see if he sticks around longer than the upcoming mii-series.
