CovrPrice.Com Runners-Up for Week of 2/24/23

As promised, the Covrprice.com runners-up list. The second half of the Top 20.

#11 HELLBOY THE CROOKED MAN #1 | DARK HORSE | 2008
A new Hellboy film is reportedly in the works, per Discussing Films “the film has reportedly tapped Crank and Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance co-director Brian Taylor to helm the movie.” The article notes that it will be based on Hellboy: The Crooked Man, a 2011 3-issue miniseries. Lucky for us fans, this franchise refuses to die. We tracked 10 copies sold, at a 7-day trend of 209%, with a high sale of $35 for a raw copy.

#12 ASTONISHING X-MEN #9 | MARVEL | 2005
While speculation can wildly affect the value of books, there are times when facts will shut down any and all rumors that brought attention to the issue in the first place. Remember when Omega Red was rumored to appear in many of Marvel’s phase four projects? The latest culprit is the rumor that Danger was set to be the next villain in the Deadpool trilogy. According to Screenrant, that rumor has been debunked. The sales of this issue have still been trending, with a surge of copies moving this week. This is most likely due to other sources still citing Danger’s appearance. Will we see it drop off next week? Unfortunately, rumors move faster than facts. We tracked 34 copies sold, at a 7-day trend of 230%, with a high sale of $40 for a raw copy. The current raw NM FMV of $16.

#13 SUPERMAN / BATMAN #8 MICHAEL TURNER 2ND PRINT | DC | 2004
Kara had an explosive debut in The Flash trailer debut! The interest in her character spiked so quickly that it bled into the 2nd print. Sales have steadily increased on this particular cover, with many collectors enjoying the sketch cover just as much as the first print. The price variance is not significant either. We tracked 22 copies sold at a 7-day trend of 127%, with a high sale of $120 for a CGC 9.8 and a raw NM FMV of $20.

#14 MARVEL’S VOICES WAKANDA FOREVER #1 KAREN S DARBOE | MARVEL | 2023
Here we have the debut of The Last Black Panther. Of the five stories in this book, “The Last Black Panther” provides a more hopeful message of the legacy. While no identity is revealed, a small baby emerges from the Black Panther suit. Is this baby a prominent player in future stories? Is there a more significant player behind the Black Panther drone? These are the questions collectors hope to have big answers to in upcoming issues. We tracked 20 copies sold, at a 7-day trend of 135%, with a high sale of $12.60 for a raw copy.

#15 HELL TO PAY #1 WILL SLINEY HORROR (1:10) | IMAGE | NOV 2, 2022
This issue marks the beginning of the story of the Shrouded College. The story follows a couple as they track down the six hundred and sixty-six cursed coins (AKA Devil’s Dollar) for the Shrouded College. Seth McFarland has just announced that Fuzzy Door and UCP recently acquired the rights to this series, and they are aiming to produce a TV series set up on Peacock. We tracked 25 copies sold, at a 7-day trend of 108%, with a high sale of $13.37 for a raw copy.

#16 BATMAN #655 | DC | 2006
Damian Wayne’s cameo appearance has continued to fluctuate between our Top 10 and Runner-Ups. This week, we see more substantial interest in Damian’s first full appearance (#656) vs. his cameo appearance in this issue. While it started strong upon James Gunn’s slate reveal, reaching highs of $500 for a CGC 9.8, collectors now prefer his full appearance over an obscured shadow figure! We tracked 26 copies sold, at a 7-day trend of 81%, with a high sale of $300 for a CGC 9.8 copy and a current raw NM FMV of $54.

#17 SUPERGIRL WOMAN OF TOMORROW #1 | DC | 2021
Supergirl has begun to taper off in terms of additional market spikes. While still on a fairly strong market trend, there is evidence that Supergirl is leveling out and locking into its current pricing. But it is still strong enough to be a hot issue this week! We tracked 27 copies sold, at a 7-day trend of 89%, with a high sale of $40 for an NM raw copy and currently trending at an FMV of $24.

#18 BOOSTER GOLD #1 | DC | 1985
For some time, many believed Booster Gold would be a complex character to adapt to live action. However, we are talking about James Gunn’s vision. If Gunn can create emotional attachments to a tree and a trash-talking raccoon, this series will be fine. Booster Gold didn’t cameo in another book before his debut. This #1 issue is THE #1 issue. It debuts Booster Gold and many of his supporting characters also; like Skeets, Blackguard, and Trixie Collins. We tracked 18 copies sold, at a 7-day trend of 112%, with a high sale of $260 for a CGC 9.6 copy and a raw NM FMV of $77.

#19 BATMAN BEYOND THE WHITE KNIGHT #8 SEAN MURPHY TOP SECRET FOIL (1:50) | DC | 2023
What a fantastic cover! There isn’t much else to say! This cover was advertised as “top secret,” with no cover art attached to solicitations. The retailer incentive then debuted with fantastic art that is also foil! What a great surprise to fans of the White Knight alternate reality! We tracked 21 copies sold, at a 7-day trend of 85%, with a high sale of $81 for a raw copy.

#20 THE OMEGA MEN #3 | DC | 1983
While Elon Musk can affect the price of Dogecoin with one tweet, James Gunn can do the same with DC comics. After the single tweet of Gunn posting a picture of Lobo went viral, this book has been on every collector’s radar. It is important to note that Lobo was not advertised as part of Gunn’s “Chapter 1” live-action slate. However, that doesn’t mean we won’t see him in any of these projects. Only time will tell! We tracked 22 copies sold, at a 7-day trend of 104%, with a high sale of $370 for a CGC 9.8 copy and a raw NM FMV of $81.
