Comic Picks of the Week for Delivery 3/1/23

Every week, tons of new books hit the stands, each with potential. Some live up to that potential. We pick the ones we think have the best shot at heating up. Here are the picks of the week for delivery this Wednesday

Hey Wednesday Warriors. February has been slow, but here we go into March. Check out what is on tap:

New #1’s
Cosmic Ghost Rider #1 – CGR returns in a new series, his first fight, with another Cosmic Ghost Rider.

DC RWBY #1 – the worlds of DC and RWBY crossover again.

Hunt Kill Repeat #1 – Kill Bill meets Clash of the Titans. When the Greek gods come to Earth to rule, society is forced to hide all forms of technology that could potentially be considered hypocrisy. However, one god, Artemis, rejects those rules and has now found solace and love in a mortal. When her brethren discover her treachery, she is called to to Olympus to answer for her betrayal. There the gods rob her of her unborn child and strip away her godly powers. Now, ten years later, Artemis is on a quest to revenge to confront her father, Zeus, and discover the truth about what happened to her child.

I Am Iron Man #1 – Kaiju battles under the sea, alien invasions in the desert, a rescue mission in outer space, all that and more, never seen before stories that are set in iconic eras of Iron Man.

Phantom Road #1 – Jeff Lemire. Dom is a long-haul truck driver attempting to stay ahead of his tragic past. When he stops one night to assist Birdie, who has been in a massive car crash, they pull an artifact from the wreckage that throws their lives into fifth gear. Suddenly, a typical midnight run has become a frantic journey through a surreal world where Dom and Birdie find themselves the quarry of strange and impossible monsters. It’s grindhouse horror meeting high-concept supernatural fantasy in the first issue of a bold new miniseries

Red Zone #1 – Cullen Bunn. an unassuming American professor of Russian and Slavic Studies at NYU, is called in by the US government for a secret international mission back to Russia, where his long-buried secrets come to light. When his support team of commandos is ambushed and killed, it’s up to Randall to fight his way out of Russia using his ‘particular set of skills.

Roachmill #1 – 1980’s fan favorite series returns.

Rogue & Gambit #1 – Rogue and Gambit take center stage in another series.

Skull And Bones Savage Storm #1 – Video game crossover from Pirate themed game. Sold out on Midtown, which is interesting to note.

Spider-Gwen Shadow Clones #1 – Ghost-Spider comes face-to-face with some of the deadliest Spider-Man villains, including Doc Ock, Sandman, Vulture and more! But wait! Why do they all look like Gwen? Gwen goes down a twisted path as she must stop whoever is cloning her into infamous Marvel villains.

Notable Reprints
Batman Superman Worlds Finest #11 2nd Ptg Jack White III – The Jack White cover returns, with just enough changes to make it different, and I am sure confusing for some

Darkwing Duck #1 Facsimile Edition – The original Darkwing Duck comic gets the facsimile treatment.

For the Cover

Harley Quinn #27 Jenny Frison Cover – Just a fantastic Harley by Frison.

Variant of the week

Sandman Universe Dead Boy Detectives #3 1:25 Variant – listed prices are all over the place on this one. Not many on eBay. Great, creepy looking homage to Japanese horror movies posters.

One to Watch
Ghost Rider #12 – Danny Ketch is back and goes through some changes this issue. Spoilers later.

Small Press Pick of the Week
Rock & Roll Hell #1 – No listings on eBay, none on TFAW or Mycomicshop. There was a variant I had pointed out on the forum that was bagged with a cassette of a heavy metal sound track for the comic. Finding one could be really hard (they were limited to 500 copies) but if you can find it, grab it, could be a good flip.

Pick of the Week
Hallows Eve #1
