Every week, tons of new books hit the stands, each with potential. Some live up to that potential. We pick the ones we think have the best shot at heating up. Here are the picks of the week for delivery this Wednesday

Hey Wednesday Warriors, kind of a slow week with one really good one. Check out what is on tap for tomorrow:

New #1’s
American Dreams #1 – Band of Bards – In New York City, 1900, a Jewish immigrant, Jake Gold, works in a sweatshop by day and fights in a gang at night. One night Thomas Edison performs a strange experiment in Central Park, unleashing strange energy across NYC and Jake is suddenly gifted with amazing powers. His path soon crosses with that of luminaries such as Harry Houdini, anarchist Emma Goldman, and crusading journalist Nellie Bly. Standing against the neophyte hero are Edison, JP Morgan, and, worst of all, the occultist leader Aleister Crowley. Can Jake rise to the occasion and protect everyone’s American Dreams?

Codename Ric Flair Magic Eightball #1 – Scout Comics – Follows Pro-Wrestler Ric Flair as a 1980’s and 1990’s super spy.

Disney Villains Scar #1 – Dynamite Ent. – The evil lion, Scar, from Lion King, takes center stage.

Junk Rabbit #1 – Image Comics – A new hero rises from mountains of consumer waste, mass homelessness, and devastating climate change. Some call the hero a myth, an urban legend, but others know that it’s the JUNK RABBIT come to life!

Karnal Confessions #1 – Legends Comics – Adult series with big online following, was self-published previously. As head of the Dominion Intelligence Agency, Kathryn Moore is faced with decisions that affect the lives of the billions of citizens she helps monitor and control. Armed with an endless amount of intel, she has normally navigated the moral tightrope of valuing the many over the few with ease. But when one in the echelon of the hierarchy moves against her, she calls his bluff and the price is bloody. Stripped of her power, both literally and figuratively, feeling justified in her blood-soaked actions, Kathryn Moore begins the arduous journey of regaining what was taken from her – at any cost.

Planet Of The Apes #1 – Marvel gets the POTA franchise back. This new series starts with the most recent movies.

Notable Reprint
After Hours Magazine Facsimile Edition #1 – Fantaco – this is an odd one. It is a reprint of a 1957 Mens Magazine. But more importantly, it is the first magazine that Warren put out. their more famous magazines were Eerie, Creepy, and Famous Monsters of Film Land.

Small Press Pick of the Week
Nasty #1 – Vault Comics – New horror series. ‘Calling all scary movie fans! Scotland, 1994. Eighteen-year-old Thumper Connell still has an imaginary friend: the masked killer from his favourite slasher film. Thumper is obsessed with horror and always has been. He fills his time with scary VHS rentals and hanging out with his fellow fans, The Murder Club. But everything changes when his local video shop acquires one of the notorious films known as ‘video nasties’ – films so scary, they’re the target of the British Moral Decency League’s crusade to ban and burn. But it’s only a movie, right? It’s all just imaginary, isn’t it? A story about the perception of evil, the power of genre, the love of fandom, the need to create art, oh, and crap-your-pants TERROR!’

Pick of the Week
Spider-Man #7 – We have been talking bout this one on the forum since Dan Slott tweeted about it. Needless to say, it is the first appearance of Spider-boy and more importantly, the Spoiler Cover features him on the cover. Copies of the Spoiler cover have been hitting $20 on eBay.
