Every week, tons of new books hit the stands, each with potential. Some live up to that potential. We pick the ones we think have the best shot at heating up. Here are the picks of the week for delivery this Wednesday
What is up Wednesday Warriors, it is the dreaded Fifth Week edition. The Fifth week is just that, the fifth Wednesday of the month where many publishers put out one shots, specials, or annuals as to not mess up their normal publishing schedules. Anyway, here is what is on tap:
New #1’s
Cat Fight #1 -IDW- John Wick meets Kill Bill, meets CATS?! Felix lives a life of high fashion and indulgence. Sure, he steals to get it, but he gets it on his own, nonetheless. When a mysterious character by the name of Schrodinger threatens Felix’s only surviving family member in an attempt to recruit him into a crime syndicate, Felix is sent on a globetrotting game of cat and mouse in a heightened world of colorful criminal masterminds.
Legion Of Exceptional Gorilla Men #1 -American Mythology- Just for the name alone… It’s a bird…it’s a plane…it’s a super simian? When the world is in danger and no mere mortal man can save it, we need the only super group in the ape nation – the Legion of Exceptional Gorilla Men! Gorillas with powers beyond the wildest dreams of an ordinary chimp join forces to save their captured comrades from a diabolically evil mad scientist, Dr. Fang. Despite their exceptional abilities the question remains; can they set aside their savage instincts for the good of gorilla-kind? Or will they slip on the banana peel of destiny? Find out here!
North Valley Grimoire #1 -Whatnot- SPYCRAFT MEETS SPELLCRAFT in North Valley: a slick, James Bond-style adventure fused with the supernatural suspense of The Magicians.
Rawhead Reborn #1 -American Mythology- A dying man utters a name which curses his killers and seals their fates…Rawhead. One by one they begin dying in strange and gruesome ways, until there’s only two left. The remaining survivors struggle with what to do next and wonder is it all a coincidence? Or is there really something that’s out to get them?
Sanjulians Queen Of The Lost World #1 -Opus Comics- Legendary Spanish artist Sanjulián is known throughout the world for his beautiful and haunting covers for Creepy, Eerie, Famous Monsters, Vampirella, and many more. Now his most vivid paintings are coming to life in Queens of The Lost World, in this collaboration with the master himself!
Savage Strength Of Starstorm #1 -Image- Orphaned amnesiac high school student Grant Garrison is just attempting to navigate his present and recall his past when a meteor decimates his school. In the rubble, Grant discovers a strange artifact from another galaxy, the weapon known as the Starstorm, and the power that resides within it will determine not only his and his friends’ future-but the fate of the entire universe.
One and Done
Rocketeer Special #1 – Adam Hughes cover and interior art on a classic character, worth the pick up for me.
One to Watch
Edge Of Spider-Verse #2 – We get a new Spider-Variant, Sky Spider, this issue.
Notable Reprints
w0rldtr33 #1 2nd Ptg – going back for a second printing (I guess technically a third since they had to reprint the first print due to an error. Anywho… New color added to the cover. There is a Momoko Incentive cover for the second printing as well.
Killadelphia #30 Cover D 2nd Ptg – Spawn made an appearance in the first print, the 2nd print has Spawn on the cover. It is sold out in many places. Worth a grab.
Pick of the Week
Amazing Spider-Man #26 – Well this is the big one this week, a character dies. I usually do not like death spec and we can be pretty sure that the character who died will be back in the next couple of months. Spoiler cover is selling as high as $9.49 on eBay
I’ll be happy if the 4th week’s books come in this week…not sure if Diamond printed more copies after copies being transported last week were destroyed in a truck accident.
