Comic Picks of the Week for Delivery 6/7/23

Every week, tons of new books hit the stands, each with potential. Some live up to that potential. We pick the ones we think have the best shot at heating up. Here are the picks of the week for delivery this Wednesday

What is up Wednesday Warriors. The soup is thin this week. Not much really coming out. There are some cool new #1’s so if you see something you like, maybe grab a copy. I am more excited about my Small Press Pick of the Week than the pick of the week, read on, you will see what I mean.

Catrinas Caravan #1 -Scout Comics- he mysterious figure of Doña Catrina sweeps into a small town with her traveling carnival and tells a gathered crowd a dark tale. A father and son are captured by a group of militiamen who use terror to “patrol” the border. At their darkest moment, the refugees find a fierce ally-but can they truly trust a monster once it has killed the other monsters?

In Hell We Fight #1 – New John Layman (Chew) Image series. Three condemned teens and their annoying tagalong demon frenemy embark on a daring scheme to hijack a demon lord’s delivery truck. What happens next will take them on an epic journey across the underworld, an infernal excursion of nonstop excitement, danger, and adventure.

Loki #1 – He may be the ‘benevolent’ God of Stories now, but Loki’s past as the God of Lies returns to haunt him when ancient, powerful weapons he once built end up scattered across the Ten Realms! Loki must track down these weapons before they fall into the wrong hands and bring about Ragnarok! Surprising guest stars, exciting new characters and startling twists await in this all-new miniseries

Steelworks #1 – Miniseries featuring Michael Dorn writing and features Steel.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles vs Street Fighter #1 – two iconic 80’s franchises crossover.

Youve Been Cancelled #1 – Mad Cave – In the near future, cancel culture means more than just losing your job…it could mean your life. The world’s premier entertainment event is CANCELLED – a live-streamed program where elite bounty hunters called cancellers kill individuals who society has voted to “cancel” following heinous actions or offenses. Our story follows Roland Endo, the world’s #1 ranked Canceller. Because of this status, Roland lives in a constant state of paranoia with a target on his back…

One and Done
Star Wars Return Of The Jedi The Empire – As operations begin to take shape on the moon of ENDOR, a technician must figure out how to live under the control of THE EMPIRE. But if he can’t stay out of trouble, what will the Empire do with him?

For the Cover

Joker Uncovered #1 – Its pretty straight up, if you missed the original version, this Bermejo cover is worth grabbing.

Poison Ivy #13 Frank Cho Cover – I love both Poison Ivy and Frank Cho Covers. This is an easy one for me.

One to Watch
Money Shot Comes Again #2 – This is an odd one. Cult/Adult comic character Cherry (aka Cherry Poptart) makes her return to comics. Cherry is a cult favorite of a lot of people.

Small Press Pick of the Week
Sickness #1 – I love horror and this small press horror book sounds awesome. Feeling sick? The Man may be following you… 1945: Daniel Buss, an anxious teenager living in small-town America, has been experiencing strange symptoms: mood swings, increased sensitivity, and terrifying hallucinations, threatening to ruin his summer vacation before freshman year. Worse, a stalking presence watches Daniel’s every move. 1955: George Brooks-war vet and tireless doctor-nears retirement from his decorated past. When a local housewife murders her entire family, her son-the sole survivor-is put into his care; George grows obsessed with uncovering what could drive an ordinary person to such brutality. Though they live a decade apart, their fates intertwine through a horrifying illness and the haunting figure who follows wherever they go.

Pick of the Week
Deadpool Badder Blood #1 – I do have to say I am on the fence about this one. Simply put, there are not any “bangers” or “no brainers” this week that are a must buy for me. Rob Liefed doing Deadpool and introducing a derivative character isn’t much to go on, but since there isn’t much else, this appearance of the new character Shatterstorm, gains the the pick of the week.

  1. I’m surprised Extreme Venomverse #4 isnt on here, I believe it has several new 1st appearances. The incentive is going for more than double.

  2. The best books out this week are from 2 weeks ago when the truck crashed and burned all the northeast copies. Supposedly the replacement copies get delivered with this weeks books.
