As promised, the Covrprice.com runners-up list. The second half of the Top 20.
#11 TRANSFORMERS #1 – 2023 SDCC – B&W | IMAGE | 2023
Surprisingly, the colored counterpart for this book is building a real divide between the two versions. Often, it’s the B&W variant that sees heavier attention, as many often equate that choice of color pallet with rarity. But, dang, that color does pop! This was a highly sought-after book during SDCC, thanks to the ever-expanding universe that Robert Kirkman birthed with the debut of Void Rivals and the inclusion of a freakin’ Transformer! We tracked 10 copies sold, at a 7-day trend of 181%, with a high sale of $256 for an NM+ raw copy and a current raw NM FMV of $200.
#12 WOLVERINE #1 | MARVEL | 1988
Let’s face it, the first appearance of Wolverine is well out of reach for the average collector. Heck, his first mini-series is getting there as well. This book has yet peaked, making it an attractive ‘key’ for casual collectors as the first issue of Wolverine’s long-deserved solo series. It’s still hard to believe it took 14 years for that to happen! We tracked 38 copies sold, at a 7-day trend of 114%, with a high sale of $425 for a CGC 9.8 copy (fitting as it’s a tough grade to secure due to that black cover) and a raw NM FMV of $51.
#13 MARVEL COMICS PRESENTS #95 | MARVEL | 1991
This book continues to hang on, as the community is still collectively finding it in dollar bins and trading hands while the market is hot. It’s not the first appearance of Wolverine’s blue and yellow costume, but it is the origin of said costume, and that counts for something now that we’re finally going to see it in live-action! We tracked 30 copies sold, at a 7-day trend of 127%, with a high sale of $35 for an NM+ raw copy and a current raw NM FMV of $16.
#14 STAR WARS DARTH VADER BLACK WHITE AND RED #4 – KEVIN EASTMAN (1:25) | MARVEL | 2023
Kevin Eastman is known far and wide as the co-creator of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. He still turns in covers for the IDW run to this day. But he occasionally ventures out and tackles another IP. This time it was Darth Vader and Star Wars, and the fanbase loves it. We tracked 21 copies sold, at a 7-day trend of 86%, with a high sale of $50 for an NM raw copy and a current raw NM FMV of $32.
#15 THE INCREDIBLE HULK #181 | MARVEL | 1974
Just incredible to see 13 copies of this book pop up in one week! More set photos have leaked with Deadpool and Wolverine doing battle. Being the first appearance of Wolverine, and Deadpool 3 being the “last appearance” of Hugh Jackman as the character, we’re bound to see a spike in sales as those who have long held onto this book are finally deciding to part with it while it’s still red hot! With an uncertain future, thanks to the writer strike, it will be interesting to see how this book tracks! We tracked 13 copies sold, at a 7-day trend of 121%, with a high sale of $13,108 for a CGC 9.4 and a current raw VF FMV of $4,300.
#16 MARVEL TEAM-UP #141 – NEWSSTAND | MARVEL | 1984
Often considered to be tied for the 2nd appearance of the famous Black Suit, this book is always sought after at big cons. We’re just on the other side of what is considered the biggest con in the world, so it’s no surprise it’s popped up on this list. We tracked 12 copies sold at a 7-day trend of 126%, with a high sale of $225 for a CGC 9.2 and a current raw NM FMV of $112.
#17 INVINCIBLE #2 – JUSTINE FLORENTINO – 2023 SDCC – 20TH ANNIVERSARY (LIMITED 500) | IMAGE | 2023
This book reprints the first full appearance of Atom Eve and several other prominent characters from the Invincible universe. On top of that, it was an SDCC exclusive, with a limited run and depiction of Atom Eve that many fans enjoy. Now that she has her animated mini-series to couple with Invincible, the spotlight is on her. That’s a whole new audience discovering this heroine is badass, and it shows on the aftermarket! We tracked 18 copies sold, at a 7-day trend of 81%, with a high sale of $74 for an NM raw copy and a current raw NM FMV of $51.
#18 SPIDER-MAN #7 – HUMBERTO RAMOS – TOP SECRET SPOILER | MARVEL | 2023
Heeeee’s Baaaaack. For weeks we’ve highlighted this book as Spider-Boy exploded in popularity and never went away. We’ve received a trickle of new information, believing he’d likely be here to stay. Then Marvel finally revealed his identity, solicitations indicated he’s potentially getting a solo series, and the great Dan Slott has even endorsed the character, making it the only graded book he owns! We tracked 75 copies sold (down from 99 last week) at a 7-day trend of 109%, with a high sale of $150 for a CGC 9.8 copy and a raw NM FMV of $33.
#19 HARLEY QUINN: BLACK WHITE REDDER #1 – SOZOMAIKA (1:25) | DC | 2023
Sozomaika has undoubtedly developed quite a dedicated fanbase with her Catwoman variants. They’ve been significant drivers behind the sales of this variant for issue one of a Harley Quinn mini-series. It was a sought-after book among the many others at SDCC as it dropped right before the mother of all cons. Now, it’s enjoying continued aftermarket heat. We tracked 21 copies sold, at a 7-day trend of 104%, with a high sale of $84.73 for an NM raw copy and a current raw NM FMV of $48.
#20 INVINCIBLE #2 – ROSE BESCH – 2023 SDCC – 20TH ANNIVERSARY EDITION | IMAGE | 2023
Thanks to SDCC, we finally have some new Invincible media to consume! A full two years after Season 1 debuted, we got a teaser, an announcement regarding the structure of Season 2, and, oh, a whole Atom Eve special episode! We get the titular heroine on the cover of this SDCC exclusive book, fitting as it reprints her first full appearance! We tracked 19 copies sold, at a 7-day trend of 123%, with a high sale of $130 for an NM raw copy and a current raw NM FMV of $95.
