Comic Picks of the Week for Delivery 8/23/23

Every week, tons of new books hit the stands, each with potential. Some live up to that potential. We pick the ones we think have the best shot at heating up. Here are the picks of the week for delivery this Wednesday

What is up Wednesday Warriors? Really slow week this week. A ton of new #1’s but not many really standing out. Here is what is on tap.

New #1’s
Beast Of Bower Boulevard #1 – From Willy’s Wonderland creator G.O. Parsons. a deputy and his family are sent to investigate the welfare of a secluded ski town. Upon arrival, they discover the resort is under deadly assault by a mechanized, militarized, robotic dinosaur.

Captain America Finale #1 – Cap vs the Outer Circle

Penguin #1 – After retiring to Metropolis following his death, Oswald Cobblepot finds himself forced back into the unpredictable and violent Gotham City underworld as a pawn of the United States intelligence community!

Realm Of X #1 – the unlikely team of Magik, Mirage, Marrow, Dust and Typhoid Mary find themselves stranded in…Vanaheim?

Schlub #1 – Failing dentist Roger Dalton blames the world for his problems until he is body-swapped with the world’s greatest superhero. Can Roger save Earth and finally prove to his family he’s not a loser? Or are we all doomed?

Immortal Thor #1 – New Thor series by Al Ewing kicks off. Norse myths, they called him Thunderer. Vuer has he been called, and Hloriddi. The Gods know him as Asgard’s King, keeper of Mjolnir, hero of the tales. When injustice grips the Earth and ancient powers bring down the sky, he fights for those who cannot – and when the tale is done, we will know what that cost him.

Jean Grey #1 – Louise Simonson returns to the X-Men

Keys Of Cthulhu #1 – Normally do not cover Zenescope, but, this one is about Cthulhu. Cthulhu is close to waking from his long prison of sleep. The keys to his awakening have been found and all but two have been collected. Avril Williams knows her power as a witch makes her special but she never suspected they made her a key to waking the greatest evil the world has ever known. Now on a mysterious South American island teeming with evil, she must confront her destiny as the final key to unlocking hell on earth.

Marvel Unleashed #1 – Pet Avengers return

Mary Machinegun #1 – Templar agent Mary Machinegun is sent to Kentucky to eradicate a pack of werewolves. Upon her arrival she discovers not all is as it seems in the small town, especially in the church overlooking it.

Amazing Spider-Man #300 Facsimile Foil Cover – First appearance of Venom gets the facsimile treatment with a foil cover, looks pretty sweet in foil.

For the Cover
I like Battle Chasers and glad to see it come back after so many years unfinished. In the end though, Red Monika covers sell books. So these two really stand out.
