CovrPrice.Com Runners-Up for Week of 8/25/23

As promised, the Covrprice.com runners-up list. The second half of the Top 20.

#11 SPAWN #306 – FINAL KOMBAT | IMAGE | 2020
Once considered one of the rarest Spawn variants, this book rarely surfaced in the aftermarket. When it did, it saw exceptional sales as high as $5,500 for a 9.8. Intended as an exclusive variant for the Covid-canceled “Final Kombat” Mortal Kombat Tournament that was supposed to be held in Chicago on March 8, 2020. Due to the cancellation, a limited amount of books were released to the gaming competitors, and the rest were allegedly destroyed. Most speculators believe there are around 50 copies of this book in existence. However, copies have been steadily hitting online over the past month, leading to new questions about this number and how many actually exist. We tracked 11 copies sold, at a 7-day trend of 127%, with a high sale of $1,725 for a CGC 9.8 and a current NM raw FMV of $500.

#12 SPIDER-MAN 2099 #1 | MARVEL | 1992
Last week this book was in the #2 spot; this week, we see it fall ten spots. The fandom is obsessed with Miguel O’Hara and his potential in the Spider-Verse movies. Anytime Spider-Verse news is released or there is a slight dip in value, collectors take the opportunity to continue collecting this phenomenal cover. We tracked 49 copies sold, at a 7-day trend of 90%, with a high sale of $188.50 for a CGC 9.8 and a current raw NM FMV of $22.

#13 KNIGHT TERRORS: WONDER WOMAN #2 – W SCOTT FORBES (1:25) | DC | 2023
Knight Terrors continues to deliver shocking and masterfully done cover art. In the latest issue, Forbes has illustrated Wonder Woman in a way you have never seen her before. It looks like the face we fell in love with is nothing but a mask, as Forbes provides the conceptual image. The retailer incentive covers for the Knight Terrors series (and spin-offs) have consistently remained popular as more artists share their gritty vision of Knight Terrors. We tracked 19 copies sold, at a 7-day trend of 110%, with a high sale of $25 for a raw copy and a current NM FMV of $18.

#14 DARK X-MEN #1 – ADAM HUGHES – VIRGIN (1:50) | MARVEL | 2023
The new X-Men series kicks off with a bang! Not only does it dive headfirst into a brand new X-Men team, it also showcases fantastic covers. The most notable cover is the virgin retailer incentive, featuring the beautiful Goblin Queen, Madeline Pryor. This past year, Marvel reserved most of their virgin retailer incentives for a 1:100 order. However, this retailer incentive only required retailers to order 50 copies of the standard cover. This was a great move, as most retailers could secure an incentive copy and enjoy the aftermarket popularity of this book. We tracked 10 copies sold, at a 7-day trend of 94%, with a high sale of $101.28 for a raw copy and a current raw NM FMV of $60.

#15 SPAWN #1 | IMAGE | 1992
As we wait for more information on the Spawn movie, we can still look forward to the announcement of an unknown game. At SDCC ’23, McFarlane announced that Spawn would be a guest star in one of the world’s most popular games. No other information has been released, but fans have already begun speculating where Spawn may cross over. A massive game crossover would mean the character would be back in the spotlight, potentially sending this book back up the list! In the meantime, we tracked 30 copies sold, at a 7-day trend of 89%, with a high sale of $160 for a CGC 9.8 and a raw NM FMV of $39.

#16 VENOM: LETHAL PROTECTOR #1 | MARVEL | 1993
Venom is one of Spider-Man’s most popular foes. This comic is the villain’s opportunity to star in his own series as a darker hero. This book also sports the iconic cover art by Todd McFarlane. It is an easily recognizable book with a great story, fantastic artwork and manages to stay budget-friendly. We tracked 27 copies sold at a 7-day trend of 90%, with a high sale of $150 for a CGC 9.8 and a raw NM FMV of $25.

#17 WATCHMEN #1 | DC | 1986
In case you missed it, in July, Warner Bros announced the development of an animated Watchmen series. While plenty of Barbie memes are going around, one of those memes rings true. Barbie was a box office hit and provided Warner Bros with enough seed money to explore various projects. Watchmen is a largely recognizable brand to much of the fandom; it makes sense that they would want to capitalize on this IP. Sure enough, the announcement was enough to drive fans to the aftermarket and pick up the series’ first issue. We tracked 14 copies sold at a 7-day trend of 158%, with a high sale of $641.99 for a CGC 9.8 and a current NM raw FMV of $61.

#18 ULTIMATE FALLOUT #4 | MARVEL | 2011
Miles Morales may be lower on the list this week, but he is not out! As the home release excitement begins to dwindle, so do the sales of this book. It is in no way out; it simply has slowed down. However, where some see tragedy, others see opportunity. An influx of collectors are clamoring to pick up this milestone, modern grail, at a bargain. We tracked 20 copies sold, at a 7-day trend of 107%, with a high sale of $1,920 for a CGC 9.8 and a raw NM FMV of $512.

#19 BATMAN: GARGOYLE OF GOTHAM #1 – ASHCAN | DC | 2023
This one-per-store ashcan has stirred up tons of hype for the Dark Knight’s new series! With Rafael Grampa at the helm of this new storyline, we are set to receive the darkest version of Batman’s psyche yet! The preview has gotten fans excited for the debut of the series. In the meantime, many fans are trying to obtain a copy of this ashcan. We tracked 15 copies sold, at a 7-day trend of 96%, with a high sale of $65 for an NM+ raw copy and a current raw NM FMV of $37.

#20 BATTLE CHASERS #10 – J. SCOTT CAMPBELL | IMAGE | JUN 14, 2023
Battle Chasers has had a cult following since its release. The fandom was small but strong. Unfortunately, the book took a break in 2001, leaving fans in the dark. Fast forward a decade, and the series has picked up exactly where it left off. Issue #10 is the direct continuation of the series that started back in 1998. When book #10 was announced, fans clamored for all the earlier issues. Fans are heading to the aftermarket to pick up high-grade copies of the J. Scott Campbell exclusive. We tracked 13 copies sold, at a 7-day trend of 109%, with a high sale of $12.89 for a raw copy and a current raw NM FMV of $7.
