Hello CHU’s!! It’s been a bit of a crazy week for me…so much that I almost bailed on writing an FOC article. But I’m on a metro north train to NYCC this morning with some time on my hands, so why not throw one together now? Let’s dive in!
Foiled…AGAIN?!!
Oh man…there is just a lot of foil out there right now. And there’s gonna be so many foil variants at NYCC I brought sunglasses to combat the reflection of lighting! And many are likely tired of these gimmicks, but a lot of you are not because these covers sell books. So let’s start off with some shiny goodness!!!
BATMAN #139 (Bat Symbol Glitch Foil Variant)
A different take on foil variants. Also, a new Zdarsky story arc begins, featuring the Joker!
All-Star Comics or#3 (Facsimile Edition Foil Variant)
Wonder Woman’s first is the next DC book to get the Facsimile Foil treatment.
Not Gleasons best work, but Gang War starts with this issue. The other covers did not impress me. NOTE: This book releases 12/6 (unlike all the other books on this list being 11/7 or 11/15).
DC Variant Theme-of-the-Month
October was all about Halloween covers. November is “Live” action figures in iconic poses using McFarlane Toys. These remind me of Robot Chicken, which DC also did variant covers of years ago.
Superman 78 the Metal Curtain #1 (McFarlane Toys Action Figure Variant)
For The Cover
Star Wars Dark Droids #4 (JTC Action Figure Variant)
Not Ajax’s first appearance, but might be his first cover? And is it pronounced “A – Jacks” like the cleaner, or “I – Ax” like the Greek Mythological hero?
Silver Surfer Rebirth Legacy #3
The Fallen One is back! And a great Surfer battle cover, which draws inspiration from the iconic 60s series cover for Issue #4!!
Notable First Appearances
Transformers #2 (Cover B – Chan)
Issue 2 of the new image series promises a first appearance for the Energon Universe. I’m hoping for a first cover 2nd print, but like cover B best at the moment.
From the description it seems like the “Dino-Verse” might be a thing…with Dinosaur versions of the Avengers and Fantastic Four appearing in this issue. Could be fun! And who doesn’t like Doom riding a Dino-Doom!!!
Small Publisher Spotlight
Tynion’s new book. Starts with a bloody Santa Claus. Worth a look!
Dirty D Pick-of-the-Week
Star Wars Visions Peach Momoko #1
SURPRISE!!! It’s a Star Wars book. This one is written By Peach Momoko and is the first appearance of a character, Ankok, which I believe is on Cover A. Kinda looks like a Night Sister if so.
Wrapping it Up
Somehow I got this all in before hitting the underground on the train and losing service. Wish me luck at NYCC, and hope those of you who also attended had a great time! Laters!!
