CovrPrice.Com Runners-Up for Week of 12/1/23

As promised, the Covrprice.com Top 10 Runners-up list. The second half of the Top 20.

11. HARLEY QUINN: BLACK WHITE REDDER #5 – DAVID NAKAYAMA (1:25)
When David Nakayama puts pen to paper in the name of a comic vixen, fans take notice. That’s no different for this book, with a cover sporting a dynamic Harley Quinn. As we’ve mentioned before, there is a massive fanbase when it comes to lovely comic ladies gracing the cover of variants. Fans love Nakayama’s work, especially his Catwoman covers! We tracked nine copies sold at a 7-day trend of 123%, with a high sale of $90 for an NM raw copy and a current raw NM FMV of $70.

12. DEADPOOL: SEVEN SLAUGHTERS #1 – ARTHUR ADAMS (1:25)
Who doesn’t love a Deadpool one-shot? Especially one where we get to spend a day in the life with Deadpool AND bear witness to not one, but SEVEN assassinations in a single day. All kidding aside, Deadpool thrives in this format (a la Deadpool Kills the Marvel Universe). When you attach a killer creator like Arthur Adams to the project, the fans often go after the variant. We tracked 16 copies sold, at a 7-day trend of 129%, with a high sale of $50 for a raw copy and a current raw NM FMV of $47.

13. SPAWN #1
Rarely does this list lack a Spawn book. Spawn is one of the all-time aftermarket kings! It’s a cheap and plentiful key with a tolerable entry point for newcomers. There is so much attached to the character, like his ties to McFarlane, Image Comics, a cheesy 90’s movie and TV show, and more. He represents a lot to many people, and he still appears in ongoing runs. He’ll be a mainstay on this and numerous other lists for a long time! We recorded 36 copies sold, with a 7-day trend of 91%. A CGC 9.8 copy achieved a high sale of $199.99, and a current raw NM fair market value sits at $25.

14. THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN VOL.2 #30 (471)
The Madame Web trailer sure came out of nowhere and upended the market. One of the reasons was due to a character who first appeared in this book, Ezekiel. The trailer seems to frame Ezekiel as the villain, which is interesting, considering he’s somewhat the opposite in the comics. Morlun, who first appears in this book, is the real villain. Without diving too deep, their dynamic centers around the Spider-Totem. Sony seems to have gotten started on that massive comic pivot point when they teased it in Morbius and could be bringing that home in Madame Web. We still don’t know if that’s a route they’re taking, but it makes sense with the building blocks they’ve established thus far. We tracked 17 copies sold, at a 7-day trend of 163%, with a high sale of $145 for a CGC 9.8 and a current raw NM FMV of $29.

15. THE X-MEN VOL.1 #130 – NEWSSTAND
While this book fell behind Dazzler #1 for numerous weeks, it began to steady just a few weeks ago. Now, Dazzler #1 has fallen behind, and this book remains in the spotlight. It marks the first appearance of the much-discussed Dazzler, but also Sebastian Shaw, and is the second appearance of Emma Frost and Kitty Pryde. They are all prominent characters within the X-Men franchise, one that is returning eventually. The rumor that Taylor Swift will play the character in the upcoming Deadpool 3 still hasn’t faded, and likely won’t when you have comments like this from Ryan Reynolds. We tracked ten copies sold, at a 7-day trend of 318%, with a high sale of $595 for a CGC 9.6 and a current raw NM FMV of $328.

16. MARVEL SUPER-HEROES SECRET WARS VOL.1 #4 – DIRECT
There have been abundant rumors lately regarding what exactly Marvel is doing regarding their Avengers: Secret Wars project. The Kang storyline is in flux; not much is hitting for them currently, and they’re having a slight identity crisis. Still, this specific run has been seeing a ton of heat thanks to THAT end-credit scene from The Marvels and the Madame Web trailer. This run has a lot going for it, but this book is not much outside of a cover from Bob Layton (also known for his Hercules work). We tracked 13 copies sold at a 7-day trend of 185%, with a high sale of $85 for a CGC 9.6 and a current raw NM FMV of $11.

17. BLACK PANTHER #6 – DOALY (1:25)
Black Panther introduced a new king in this book, King M’Teli. However, he’s not technically new to the throne or the mantle of Black Panther, as he held both titles a century before T’Challa. Doaly crushed this cover and delivered a regal depiction of the new character. It’s the variant to grab out of the bunch and includes the first full appearance of Kivu’Ma, an evil spirit. We tracked 11 copies sold, at a 7-day trend of 123%, with a high sale of $102.50 for a raw copy and a current raw NM FMV of $91.

18. YOUNG AVENGERS #1
This book went wild for MONTHS when all indications pointed to Marvel bringing about a Young Avengers storyline. They casually gave us Wiccan and Speed in WandaVision, Isaiah Bradley in Falcon and Winter Soldier, and Kate Bishop in Hawkeye. Then, nothing happened. It faded into the background until recently when the end of The Marvels came about and had Ms. Marvel doing her best Nick Fury impression to bring together a new team of Avengers. This book is off to the races once again! We tracked 15 copies sold at a 7-day trend of 111%, with a high sale of $340 for a CGC 9.8 and a current raw NM FMV of $88.

19. WEB OF SPIDER-MAN VOL.1 #1
Spider-Man 2 has been a hot commodity since it was released and is already in talks for Game of the Year 2023. A major plot thread of the game was Peter Parker donning the Black Suit. That’s encouraged a large portion of the fanbase to revisit the suit roots, usually leading them down a rabbit hole to this book. It’s an early Black Suit appearance and cheap compared to some other Black Suit keys. It routinely sells well and is a modern grail for many. We tracked 13 copies sold, at a 7-day trend of 149%, with a high sale of $149.99 for a CGC 9.8 copy with a raw NM FMV of $23.

20. THE AUTHORITY #1
What do the Boys, Gen V, and Invincible all share? They’re nitty, gritty, and bloody as hell. They’re IPs targeted at adults, much like this series. Often compared to The Boys, the Authority was thrust into the spotlight when James Gunn announced his intentions after taking over the DCU. Recently, we received a confirmation announcement that María Gabriela de Faría would be playing the second Engineer in an upcoming project. That led fans to pursue this book after a hiatus, as it features the first appearance of the second Engineer. In the last seven days, 16 copies of this comic book have been sold, with a 104% increase in trend. The highest sale was for a CGC 9.8 copy, which sold for $305, and the current fair market value for a raw NM copy is $49.
