Covrprice.com Top Ten Runners-Up for Week of 1/5/24

As promised, the Covrprice.com Top 10 Runners-up list. The second half of the Top 20.

11. BENEATH THE TREES WHERE NOBODY SEES #1 – RILEY ROSSMO – 2023 NYCC – STORYBOOK FOIL
This beautiful NYCC foil cover by Riley Rossmo made the Top 10 last week and falls to the top Runner-Up spot, despite increasing in price? Why? Well, less sales means less traction. However, this is primarily due to only a few copies available on sites like eBay, with those copies asking for premium pricing. While it was mainly a sleeper hit, fans have stepped up their collecting game this week. With all the fan-driven heat (and this book is VERY good), where does the market stop on a book like this? We tracked 11 copies sold, at a 7-day trend of 140% with a high sale of $200 for a CGC 9.8 and a current raw NM FMV of $91.

12. WOLVERINE #36 – RYAN STEGMAN – REGULAR
Hellverine is back on the list! It’s no surprise when you look at our YEAR-END REVIEW and how it made our Top 10 list six times last year. The character’s reception has been overwhelmingly positive, with this book remaining in high demand months after its release. Modern titles rarely dominate to this extent, with 17 copies sold, a 7-day trend of 99%, a high sale of $35 for an NM copy, and a current NM FMV of $25.

13. ALL-NEW WOLVERINE #1 – BENGAL – REGULAR
New year, new rumors? Nope. Rumors of a pack of Wolverine variants popping their claws in Deadpool 3, with the likes of Daniel Radcliffe, Taron Egerton, and, you guessed it, Daphne Keen’s X-23 from the 2017 film LOGAN has helped bring new attention to this 2015 series where Laura first donned the classic yellow & blue Wolverine costume. We tracked 12 copies sold, at a 7-day trend of 136%, with a high sale of $60 for an NM+ copy and a current raw NM FMV of $56.

14. GOTHAM CITY SIRENS #1
Speculation of a live-action adaptation of the trio that makes up Gotham City Sirens (Harley, Poison Ivy & Catwoman) is alive and well. Going back to the classic episode of “Girls Night Out” from BATMAN: THE ANIMATED SERIES, we were all hooked on the unique dynamic between these strong, independent women as they navigate their relationships, alliances, conflicts, and the morally ambiguous side of these characters. While also highlighting themes of redemption, friendship, and loyalty. It’s one of DC’s strongest concepts, one that’s not lost on James Gunn (hopefully). While a live-action take is undetermined, WB’s Harley Quinn Season 4 did set up the Gotham City Siren’s arrival for Season 5. All these are reasons why this book is once again trending. We tracked 11 copies sold, at a 7-day trend of 151%, with a high sale of $100 for a CGC 9.6 and a current raw NM FMV of $56.

15. SPIDER-MAN 2099 VOL.1 #1
2023 was a BIG year for Spider-Man 2099. With his first full-on-screen debut, this book dominated our Top 10 (17 times in total) and Runner-up list last year. In fact, he (along with Spider-Boy) claimed the Top Spots of the best-selling aftermarket book from Spawn & Miles. It’s now a wall book and one that collectors of all ages want to own. We tracked 15 copies sold, at a 7-day trend of 124%, with a high sale of $102 for a CGC 9.8 copy and a raw NM FMV of $16.

16. THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN VOL.1 #312
Two of Spider-Man’s most iconic villains do battle on this phenomenal cover by Todd McFarlane. In addition to the dynamic cover, this book is also where Todd McFarlane began adding the scroll to his signature on covers. In previous covers, McFarlane would tuck his signature into the artwork. For example, in AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #300, you can see his signature on the left, inside of the circle, just above the skyline. However, beginning with this issue, his signature would be boxed in and more prominent. This tidbit is a neat little fact in comic art history and an affordable collector’s item for fans of McFarlane! We tracked 14 copies sold at a 7-day trend of 134%, with a high sale of $175 for a CGC 9.8 and a current raw NM FMV of $30.

17. STREET FIGHTER MASTERS: KIMBERLY #1 – ICKPOT – MARKET APPRECIATION EDITION
American graffiti ninja Kimberly Jackson takes center stage on this beautiful one-per-store virgin variant! This book results from the Market Appreciation event that UDON launched to celebrate 20 years of Street Fighter comics. UDON even launched this event secretly from retailers, and once discovered, they became hot ticket items! This particular issue has generated tons of heat since its release, selling 11 copies at a 7-day trend of 93%, with a high sale of $61 for a raw copy and a current raw NM FMV of $51

18. MARVEL SUPER-HEROES SECRET WARS VOL.1 #8 – DIRECT
Venom has always been a spotlight villain for Spider-Man. The symbiotic creature has recently been one of the main villains in the PS5 game and also teased back in the MCU’s Spider-Man: No Way Home. This issue was already a grail for most collectors. However, it has since picked up heat as fans anticipate more Venom in live-action adaptations! We tracked 32 copies sold, at a 7-day trend of 83%, with a high sale of $540 for a CGC 9.8 and a raw NM FMV of $220.

19. TRANSFORMERS #1 – DANIEL WARREN JOHNSON & MIKE SPICER – REGULAR
The IP for Transformers has passed hands several times over this past generation. From Marvel to IDW, and now to Image – this book signifies that torch passing as Transformers embarks on a new storyline at Image’s new shared universe, Energon. VOID RIVALS #1 was responsible for kicking this off, and the excitement continues on this issue! We tracked 23 copies sold, at a 7-day trend of 87%, with a high sale of $79 for a CGC 9.8 and a current raw NM FMV of $7.

20. DAZZLER VOL.1 #1
Taylor Swift and comic fans alike continue to keep this book on our top lists! Deadpool 3 has started several rumors, but this is by far one of the strongest ones out there, likely due to the devoted fandom of Taylor Swift and Deadpool. While the rumor has been circulating for a few months, the Disney powers-that-be have released no new information that confirms or denies these rumors. We tracked 17 copies sold, at a 7-day trend of 91%, with a high sale of $295 for a CGC 9.8 copy and a current raw NM FMV of $15.
