Dirty D’s F.O.C (4/7/24)

Hello CHU! Prepping for a family vacation so running a little late with the packing, so will keep the introduction light. Here’s a quick run down of interesting books on FOC this week.

Cool Covers

Carnage #7
Just a crazy,, kind of scary Carnage cover.

Liz Allan makes a discovery that changes the symbiote balance of power! Flash and Cletus are both armed with surprising weapons! Carnage’s followers take their fight IRL, but Cletus begins to question his godliness.

New Mutants #98 – Facsimile Edition (Foil Variant)

Gotta love keys in foil. At least I do.

If this was clearly Gwen Goblin, it’d be much better. My gut says it’s not, but hard to really know.

Not often we get a cool Major Blood cover!

My favorite cover this week. Should be popular for obvious reasons.

Indy Spotlights / New #1’s

A blood-splattered story of conquest. Bears. Pirates. Vikings. And Queens-all battling for their claim to determine what the world will become. Rendered in stunning watercolor by artist JONATHAN MARKS BARRAVECCHIA, it’s a gorgeous story of the blood spilled to make countries. And what’s cooler than bears, pirates, vikings, and queens??? With 72 stunning pages, it’s sure to be one of the most beautiful and thought-provoking books of the year.

Vikings, Pirates and Bears…Oh My!

Yea, I’m picking this book just to make a Wizard of Oz pun. Actually, it might be cool if you like three of the most random things going at it…it stands out in a weak crowd this week.

Whisper Queen #1 (of 3) (Cover B – Staples)

MINISERIES PREMIERECHIP ZDARSKY (NEWBURN, Batman) and KRIS ANKA (Across the Spider-Verse), the ALL-STAR TEAM behind THE WHITE TREES, return to the fantastical land of Blacksand! The royal guard has sent their most capable bounty hunters after the accomplices in the king’s murder! Javro, once the king’s most skilled assassin, must find the killers before they and the bounty hunters-including her son-are wiped out by the kingdom’s most feared specter: The Dark Whisper!

Rounding out this week is the new Space Ghost #1. Not exactly excited about this book, but I do appreciate the classic cartoon look of this variant. Now bring on the Herculoids!!!

Large Publisher New #1’s

Hellverine #1
The mega hit mashup character of Wolverine and Ghost Rider gets his own series.

Spider-Gwen Ghost-Spider #1 (Jenny Frison Variant)

Spider-Gwen joins the 616 for good, and Frison bangs out a great cover to celebrate.

First Appearance Alert

Giant-Size X-Men #1
If you are like me, and I am sure you are, you were thinking, “you know what character in a larger ensemble cast needs his own arch-enemy?” And that answer would of course be Angel on the X-Men. He gets one introduced this issue. We don’t have all the details on him/her yet.

THE AVENGING ANGEL LOSES HIMSELF IN A DANGEROUS MAZE OF THE MIND! A mysterious card has lured the dashing Warren Worthington III, A.K.A.. ANGEL of the X-MEN, to a quiet New York City street… where he will undergo a torturous trial unlike any he’s ever faced before! A brand-new villain has it out for mutantkind – and aims to start by knocking Angel out of the sky!
