RUNNERS UP
11: Marvel Two-In-One #64 – Newsstand | Marvel | June 1980
Remember a month ago when Giancarlo Esposito appeared in the new Captain America: Brave New World as an unconfirmed character? Well, now we know he will be playing Sidewinder, the leader of the Serpent Society, a squad that first appears in this book. Consisting of Sidewinder, Anaconda, Death Adder, and Black Mamba, all individuals with snake-themed powers. It was created after the Serpent Society, but mostly with the same ambition. While Esposito was decidedly not dressed up like a snake, it appears he has the destruction and devastation part of the equation down pat if the trailer is any indication. We tracked 14 copies sold, at a 7-day growth trend of 184% with a high sale of $25 for an FN copy and a current VF raw of $30.

12: Iron Man Vol.1 #150 | Marvel | September 1981
Robert Downey Jr., Iron Man, and Dr. Doom have been the talk of the town for the last few weeks, for good reason. We’ve seen books featuring the characters rising like crazy since that Hall H announcement. This book is yet another, featuring an iconic cover from John Romita Jr. of Iron Man and Dr. Doom duking it out. It’s a classic for a reason and one that many fans are rediscovering thanks to the announcement. We tracked 34 copies sold, at a 7-day growth trend of 48%, with a high sale of $220 for a CGC 9.4 copy and a current FN raw $31.

13: Daredevil Vol.1 #37 | Marvel | February 1968
Yet another classic book featuring Dr. Doom on our lists! Of course, this is the meetup between the Man Without Fear and the evil Dr. who causes it. The matchup seems a little one-sided, but back in the day, Dr. Doom hadn’t quite reached the peak villain status that he has today. Dr. Doom had only debuted six years prior, and writers hadn’t yet had the time to develop his diabolical nature. Now, that fight would be over quickly, but it’s still a classic key. We tracked 15 copies sold, at a 7-day growth trend of 70%, with a high sale of $400 for a CGC 9.0 copy and a current FN raw $51.

14: Infamous Iron Man #1 – Skottie Young | Marvel | October 2016
We’ve seen a massive run on all iterations of this book. This variant from Skottie Young has been near the top of most collector’s lists. With the first appearance of Victor Von Doom as Iron Man, with a Tony Stark A.I. in tow, it was off to the races the moment Robert Downey Jr. removed the Doom mask. But the Skottie Young fanbase and those looking to secure a copy collided to raise this former $50ish raw book to nearly $100 FMV in a snap. We tracked nine copies sold, at a 7-day growth trend of 74% with a high sale of $350 for a CGC 9.8 copy and a current NM raw $92.

15: Minor Arcana #1 – Jeff Lemire – Advance Edition | Boom! Studios | July 2024
Jeff Lemire is back at it again! Debuting his newest book about a small-town psychic, they nailed the theme. Releasing with a majority of the story included, rounded corners like tarot cards (again, theme), this edition was released as a one-per-store thank-you version. Lemire books typically don’t hit crazy aftermarket values, but his massive fanbase still desires them. Anytime a ‘special’ version is released, fans typically cause it to rise on the aftermarket, as we saw with the recalled version of Fishflies #2. We tracked 19 copies sold, at a 7-day growth trend of 65%, with a high sale of $15 for an NM copy and a current NM raw of $13.

16: Books of Doom #1 | Marvel | November 2005
With the rise in Dr. Doom’s essential books, we were bound to see this one eventually! It features the origin of Dr. Doom from the mouth of Dr. Doom with an in-universe interviewer. Claiming he can remember every moment of his life since his time in the womb; it only gets more outrageous from there. However, many collectors view it as the definitive origin, as told from the subject’s perspective. It’s an interesting tale, and with the Doom love in full force, one collector is taking a flyer on it. We tracked 20 copies sold, at a 7-day growth trend of 48%, with a high sale of $230 for a CGC 9.8 copy and a current VF raw $23.

17: Camacho #1 – Eric Zoueh Skotnes – 2024 SDCC – Signed by Terry Crews (Limited 2020) | Super Serious | July 2024
Idiocracy should be taught in schools. The Mike Judge classic has extraordinary parallels with today’s society. One of the characters from the film, President Dwayne Elizondo Mountain Dew Herbert Camacho, played by Terry Crews, was one of the most outlandish characters ever put to screen. But fans loved him, and Terry Crews & Co. hammed it up big time while releasing this book about President Camacho. Crews even signed 2020 copies for those in attendance at SDCC who were lucky enough to snag a copy. For those who weren’t able to attend, the aftermarket is the place to visit, and visit it they have! We tracked 16 copies sold, at a 7-day growth trend of 14%, with a high sale of $150 for an NM copy and a current NM raw for $109.

18: The New Mutants Vol.1 #98 – Rob Liefeld – Regular | Marvel | February 1991
You know what it is. This is the first appearance of the Mutant, the myth, the legendary smartmouth, Deadpool. With Deadpool and Wolverine destroying the box office, new and old fans are scouring the aftermarket to secure a copy. We tracked 35 copies sold, at a 7-day growth trend of 22% with a high sale of $1260 for a CGC 9.8 copy and a current NM raw $380.

19: Wolverine #88 – Direct Edition – Deluxe – $1.95 Price | Marvel | December 1994
The first meeting and battle between Wolverine and Deadpool has been off and on this list since it was revealed Hugh Jackman would be returning to the role of Wolverine. Half the advertising for the film featured the two contentiously making wisecracks at one another or straight-up duking it out. It’s one of those books fans are after that encapsulates the heart of the film before it evolves into something more (friendship). We tracked 47 copies sold, at a 7-day growth trend of 19%, with a high sale of $350 for a CGC 9.8 copy and a current NM raw $54.

20: Doom #1 – Sanford Greene – Regular | Marvel | May 2024
Before the big reveal of Robert Downey Jr. behind the Doom mask, this book was the catalyst for the recently resurgent Doom love. It’s been off and on our list for weeks, often dominating the top of the charts. It appeals to a wide range of fans as it’s comprised of a sick cover, a unique one-shot story, a touching tribute, and so much more. The rise this book experienced and its ability to maintain value has bucked the trend that many modern books are saddled with. High price as the hype train barrels full speed ahead before quieting down once something else sparks fan interest. It’s a testament to the book itself; it’s been able to maintain the value and desire of fans. We tracked 36 copies sold, at a 7-day growth trend of 19%, with a high sale of $150 for a CGC 9.8 copy and a current NM raw $47.
