RUNNERS UP

11: Daredevil #14 | Marvel | December 2016
That leaked Daredevil trailer is making the rounds once again! Now that internet sleuths have gotten their hands on it, the sleuthing has begun. One thing discovered quickly is Muse, a potential villain for the series, is involved somehow. That sends fans to the aftermarket to secure his first appearance which is quickly growing out of reach for some collectors. Now, the pivot to his first cover appearance was a natural reaction. We tracked 13 copies sold, at a 7-day growth trend of 10% with a high sale of $101 for a CGC 9.8 copy and a current NM raw of $27.

12: Uncanny X-Men #1 – Jim Lee – Hidden Gem (1:50) | Marvel | August 2024
This book was all the rage last week but has fallen since then. This hobby moves quickly, and now that issue #2 is already released, the story goes on and collectors have a new book to focus on. That doesn’t take away from the epic work the legend Jim Lee delivered with this 1:50 variant cover featuring a distinctly 90’s Rogue. We tracked 27 copies sold, at a 7-day growth trend of 3% with a high sale of $100 for an NM copy and a current NM raw of $83.

13: Werewolf By Night: Red Band #1 – Jeff Dekal (1:50) | Marvel | August 2024
One thing the Werewolf By Night special did well was the violence. He’s a WEREWOLF for pete’s sake. So, when fans noticed there would be a Red Band version of Werewolf By Night, they circled the release date on their calendars. That’s the exact type of setting fans hoped the character would be involved with, and sure enough, it didn’t disappoint. As we have seen with the other Red Band titles, the higher ratio variants have been the issues to get, at least initially. This 1:50 from Jeff Dekal did nothing to buck the trend. We tracked 15 copies sold at a 7-day growth trend of 31%, with a high sale of $112 for an NM and a current NM raw of $94.

14: X-Men #2 – J. Scott Campbell – Virgin (1:100) | Marvel | August 2024
This book marks the first appearance of Ben Liu, but all eyes are on Magik. Whenever the talented J. Scott Campbell delivers another rendition of the character, fans take notice. This variant is already touching the sky on the aftermarket, beating out all other variants by a mile. We tracked 19 copies sold, at a 7-day growth trend of 14% with a high sale of $160 for an NM copy and a current NM raw of $109.

15: What If? Iron Man: Demon in an Armor #1 | Marvel | December 2010
This book has so much going for it, especially with the RDJ as Dr. Doom announcement. Doom switches minds with Iron Man, and the cover homages one of the most iconic Iron Man covers ever. It’s not surprising fans are taking a hard look at this book. Since the announcement, nearly every book with a modicum of connection got a little hotter, and this book is no different! We tracked 10 copies sold, at a 7-day growth trend of 2% with a high sale of $112 for an NM copy and a current NM raw of $102.

16: Deadpool #31 | Marvel | July 2014
The first full appearance of Deadpool’s daughter has flown under the radar for a long time. Well, no longer! Ellie Comacho is working to become Deadpool in the 2099 verse and quickly becoming a compelling character in her own right. Instead of reckless chaos, with a smidge of seriousness, Ellie is all about being the most competent badass she can be. Training with Taskmaster, and unlocking new abilities, it’s all a day in the life for her. More fans are starting to catch on and revisit her first appearance. We tracked 16 copies sold, at a 7-day growth trend of 11% with a high sale of $28 for an NM copy and a current NM raw of $24.

17: The New Mutants Vol.1 #98 – Rob Liefeld – Regular | Marvel | February 1991
This book will always be near or on this list. Deadpool has become one of the most popular characters ever, and there’s no turning back. As more collectors come into the fold, there will be a booming population seeking to make his first appearance theirs. There’s a reason his third film has crossed a Billion already! We tracked 30 copies sold, at a 7-day growth trend of 14% with a high sale of $955 for a CGC 9.8 copy and a current NM raw of $333.

18: Marvel Super-Heroes Secret Wars Vol.1 #10 – Direct | Marvel | February 1985
As mentioned, Doom is currently a hot commodity. While some of the hype is subsiding, his key books keep popping up routinely. That includes this epic cover from Mike Zeck that quickly became a cult classic. That continues to this day, and for such a widely distributed book, it’s more difficult to find in the wild than some may think. With the Beyonder potentially becoming a threat in the future of the MCU, fans are hopeful we may see this cover realized on the big screen. We tracked 23 copies sold, at a 7-day growth trend of 11% with a high sale of $285 for a CGC 9.8 copy and a current VF raw of $31.

19: The Uncanny X-Men Vol.1 #266 | Marvel | August 1990
*POTENTIAL SPOILERS* This book was on fire during the X-Men ‘97 run, but it’s on the list for a different reason. For those who’ve been in the hobby awhile, you may remember the long-rumored Gambit movie starring Channing Tatum. Nothing came from it, but fans were pleasantly surprised to see him appear in Deadpool and Wolverine. That may be the end of it, it may not, but one thing is certain. Gambit is on a hot streak, and more fans than ever are after his first, albeit contested, appearance. We tracked 20 copies sold, at a 7-day growth trend of 9% with a high sale of $650 for a CGC 9.8 copy and a current NM+ raw of $208.

20: Marvel Super-Heroes Secret Wars Vol.1 #8 – Direct | Marvel | December 1984
Here is another book that will always be in demand graces our list, mostly due to it being the origin of the famous black Spider-Man suit, an iconic cover, etc. It’s a must-have key for generations of collectors, and last week we saw numerous members of the geek community take the dive and made it so. We tracked 19 copies sold, at a 7-day growth trend of 7%, with a high sale of $500 for a CGC 9.8 copy and a current NM raw of $164.
