RUNNERS UP
11. Venom #3 – Ryan Stegman – Regular
The steady stream of still images and tidbits of information regarding Knull held fans over until Venom: The Last Dance dropped, holding interest leading up to its release. As of this writing, the film has been out for four days, and so far, fans haven’t exactly gotten what they wanted. Still, an easily accessible film like Venom just helped introduce one of the coolest modern villains to a whole new generation of fans, some of which immediately hit the aftermarket to secure the first appearance of Knull. We tracked 35 copies sold, at a 7-day growth trend of 7%, with a high sale of $248 for a CGC 9.8 copy and a current NM raw price of $123.
12. Batman: The Long Halloween – The Last Halloween #0 – Tim Sale – Batman Day Edition
Batman: The Long Halloween is among the most celebrated Batman stories ever. Its follow-up, Dark Victory, was also beloved but not quite at the level of Long Halloween. However, when the continuation of the story, IE, this book, was announced, fan excitement shot through the roof. This book marks the earliest taste of the story we’ll get, and fans quickly secured a copy through their LCS or the online aftermarket. We tracked 17 copies sold, at a 7-day growth trend of 501%, with a high sale of $30 for an NM copy and a current NM raw price of $9.
13. Grommets #5 – Brett Parson (1:10)
This series has quietly become one of the best of 2024. It’s developed a cult following of those who remember the days long past, skateboard culture, or finding salvation in something others think little of. It appeals to a wide range of fans, a large subset of which is determined to secure some or all of the limited variants this book receives. But, when this 1:10 variant from Brett Parson, featuring a young man in a pivotal ‘girl next door’ moment, was released, collectors stepped up their game to secure it on the aftermarket. We tracked 16 copies sold, at a 7-day growth trend of 2%, with a high sale of $51 for an NM copy and a current NM raw price of $40.
14. Absolute Batman #1 – Logo – Foil
Absolute Batman has been absolutely on fire. The series has a stranglehold on the community, and each variant has seen serious attention. That includes this one, featuring the logo many Batman fans ripped to pieces whenever they first saw it. But now that the fandom has seen that logo in action, the tune has shifted, and collectors are on the hunt! We tracked 17 copies sold, at a 7-day growth trend of 28%, with a high sale of $33 for an NM copy and a current NM raw price of $26.
15. Spawn #357 – Marcial Toledano Vargas – 2024 NYCC – Retailer Thank You – Signed By Todd McFarlane (Limited 300)
This book was a NYCC darling, and it’s not surprising. It was a free, limited book signed by Todd McFarlane. Of course, Spawn collectors would be all over it. It may have fallen off our Top Ten list, but aftermarket sales continue to rise. Previously, it was topping out at around $500 when it first hit the market. But, as more reach the market, the high sales keep reaching new heights. That’s not typical for variants like this, but Spawn breeds a market niche of his own, and we’re seeing it play out in real time. We tracked six copies sold, at a 7-day growth trend of 19%, with a high sale of $580 for an NM copy and a current NM raw price of $564.
16. Godzilla’s Monsterpiece Theatre #1 – Jim Rugg – Cover RI (1:10)
We have this book to go with the theme of putting Godzilla into seemingly random titles. What do you get when you drop Godzilla into the world of the Great Gatsby? Why, this colorful masterpiece! Godzilla has seen a surge in popularity over the past few years, and this is yet another chapter within his storied history. These IDW 1:10 RI variants have seen a heavy spotlight recently, and this book might be falling into that same trend. We tracked 24 copies sold, at a 7-day growth trend of 10%, with a high sale of $25 for an NM copy and a current NM raw price of $18.
17. The Lot #1 – 2024 NYCC – Bad Idea Panel
The rumor heading into NYCC was that this series from Bad Idea would be optioned for a future project. That was confirmed during the convention, and Bad Idea distributed this variant to those who attended their panel. Bad Idea has a habit of building hype for their releases, and a panel-exclusive variant is one way to do it. Collectors have been after this book in a big way since. We tracked 13 copies sold at a 7-day growth trend of 10%, with a high sale of $75 for an NM copy and a current NM raw price of $55.
18. Absolute Wonder Woman #1 – Jeff Dekal
Like Absolute Batman, Absolute Wonder Woman has been a smashing success. We’re seeing a ton of aftermarket movement for nearly all variants, and this one from Jeff Dekal has certainly caught fans’ attention. It’s more of a classic Wonder Woman style, but the color scheme (and skulls) nails the “this is not your normal Wonder Woman” vibe. We tracked 27 copies sold, at a 7-day growth trend of 179%, with a high sale of $16 for an NM copy and a current NM raw price of $11.
19. Venom: Lethal Protector Vol.1 #1 – Regular
Since the first Venom movie, this has been a modern key for collectors to chase, much like Spawn #1. Well, the newest Venom release has it back on collectors’ radar as they seek out the first issue of Venom’s classic run – not to mention, there is a callback to the title with the recent release of Venom War: Lethal Protectors! We tracked 22 copies sold, at a 7-day growth trend of 21%, with a high sale of $120 for a CGC 9.8 copy and a current NM raw price of $23.
20. Absolute Wonder Woman #1 – Jim Lee – B&W Virgin (1:100)
It’s early, but the sales data indicates THIS is the variant fans are after and are willing to pay up to secure. Jim Lee is a titan of the industry, but some of his most notable work was on Wonder Woman. Some may argue that it’s her definitive style, and Lee brought that and more to this epic B&W variant. What better way to debut an all-new Wonder Woman than with a variant like this? Fans are opening up their wallets! We tracked 16 copies sold, at a 7-day growth trend of 46%, with a high sale of $175 for an NM copy and a current NM raw price of $144.
