RUNNERS UP

11. Sam Wilson, Captain America #1 – Taurin Clarke – Virgin (1:100)
With Captain America: Brave New World debuting next month, it’s not surprising we get a book that features the two most prominent characters in the film front and center. This book is exactly that, but this 1:100 virgin variant from Taurin Clarke has been getting some aftermarket traction. The doubling ratio right out of the gate isn’t always typical, and the extra attention it’s receiving due to the looming film might have pushed it up this list. We tracked seven copies sold at a 7-day growth trend of 100%, with a high sale of $225 for an NM copy and a current NM raw price of $182.

12. Mark Spears Monsters #1 – Mark Spears – 3rd Print – Nightmare On Elm St. Homage (1:20)
Mark Spears has been fu-*RADIO EDIT*-ing everywhere these days. The rest of this list is a testament to that. But, the aftermarket has firmly concluded what he’s dropping is fire. Cue this book, another beautiful homage to one of the scream kings, Freddy Kruger, on a third print ratio no less! We tracked seven copies sold at a 7-day growth trend of 7%, with a high sale of $80 for an NM copy and a current NM raw price of $66.

13. Mark Spears Monsters #2 – Mark Spears – Cover D – EC Comics Homage
This book was bound to pop up again, and here it is. Last summer, famed publisher and horror effecianado’s EC Comics made their stellar return. Just in time to receive the Mark Spears treatment! This book homages the Golden Age horror EC Comics was known for. It also landed right after the holiday, when Mark Spear’s everything was popping off. The new Wolf Man film drops in a few weeks, and the character has a fresh round of attention upon them. We tracked seven copies sold at a 7-day growth trend of 55% with a high sale of $35 for an NM copy and a current NM raw price of $17.

14. Mark Spears Monsters #2 – Mark Spears – Cover B – Spawn #1 Homage
Mark Spears nailed this Spawn homage as a wave of work washed over the community during the holidays and beyond. But did you know that Mark Spears will be working on a Spawn title later this year? Layers upon layers, and part of the reason collectors are going bananas for these books. Still! We tracked eight copies sold at a 7-day growth trend of 41%, with a high sale of $25 for an NM copy and a current NM raw price of $18.

15. Mark Spears Monsters #1 – Mark Spears – Cover D – Incredible Hulk #340 Homage
The slabbed books are starting to roll in for those who sent them off, adding yet another title to the long list of series paying homage to the iconic Wolverine Vs. Hulk cover. But come on, this book is insane! A horror icon is featured within the homage, with his next victim reflected in a silver crucifix buffed and shined to a mirror-like finish. Just what the market ordered! We tracked six copies sold, at a 7-day growth trend of 24%, with a high sale of $265 for a CGC 9.8 copy and a current NM raw price of $60.

16. Mark Spears Monsters #2 – Mark Spears – Cover A – Guess Who’s Back
While the homage train kept rolling with issue #2, this issue hasn’t necessarily reached the same heights on the aftermarket. Mostly because there’s more of them and fans were queued into the theme after Mark Spears took the community by storm. More fans had the chance to enjoy this cover oozing with horror iconography. It’s a fantastic wall piece that has collectors still after it. We tracked nine copies sold at a 7-day growth trend of 14%, with a high sale of $25 for an NM copy and a current NM raw price of $18.

17. Avengelyne Vol.1 #1
Not much more has been revealed since the news that Margot Robbie and Oliva Wilde would adapt this book into a film. Despite the Oscar nominees being attached to the project, no plans have been announced, but that hasn’t stopped fans from keeping tabs on this book and securing copies when it makes sense. We tracked 17 copies sold, at a 7-day growth trend of 62%, with a high sale of $75 for a CGC 9.8 copy and a current NM raw price of $7.

18. Absolute Batman #1 – Jim Lee
Jim Lee and coveted Batman covers go hand in hand, and this series is no different. Little more can be said outside of just reiterating; just look at the numbers. Absolute Batman exploded more than the majority anticipated, and when you add a titan like Jim Lee to the mix, you’re primed for sustained aftermarket movement. We tracked 10 copies sold at a 7-day growth trend of 22%, with a high sale of $86 for a CGC 9.8 copy and a current NM raw price of $21.

19. Absolute Batman #1 – Nick Dragotta – Regular
What can we say, this book is still moving well! It’s a modern grail and has brought so many new collectors into the fold. Slowly but surely those who missed out initially will continue to secure a copy. We tracked 57 copies sold, at a 7-day growth trend of 16% with a high sale of $135 for a CGC 9.8 copy and a current NM raw price of $31.

20. Spider-Man Vol. 1 #1 – Silver
This book has become such an aftermarket presence in just the last few years. It has a lot wrapped into it, like being McFarlane’s intro book for the character and, often, the introduction to comics for many folks. This series was in the 90’s and brought a ton of collectors to the fold who became lifelong members of the hobby. It’s almost become like Spawn #1, despite being the blingy version so beloved in the 90’s. If it isn’t in your collection now, it’s just one of those books that will likely find its way into it somehow down the line. We tracked 39 copies sold, at a 7-day growth trend of 12%, with a high sale of $76 for a CGC 9.6 copy and a current NM raw price of $15.
