Dirty D’s F.O.C. (3/9/25)

Hello everyone. Happy Daylight Savings Day to those of you who live in States and Provinces that observe it! I’m not a fan, personally. But I digress…

After quite a full list last week, this week is a lot more quiet for FOC picks. Almost considered opting out of writing something, but then after going back through figured there’s enough scraps to make a small meal here. Let’s see what’s worth snacking on this week.

COVERS

hulk

Incredible Hulk #24 (Doaly Variant)

Haven’t seen an infinity cover in a while. And this one is pretty sweet. Dirty D Cover-of-the-Week!!

REPRINTS

To celebrate G.I. Joe: Silent Missions month, experience the groundbreaking “Silent Interlude” from writer/artist Larry Hama! This legendary issue features a Snake-Eyes solo mission, the first appearance of Storm Shadow, and a full-length, action-packed story with no dialogue!

This book has been reprinted many times (try to find the elusive 2nd print by Marvel). But not all have used the original cover as of late. I’ll be holding out for the 1:25 foil if I can find it for a good price.

NUMBER 1’s

Without the Corps…without the ring…without the willpower, what’s left is the Absolute Green Lantern!

Latest heroes to get Absolute. Al Ewing is the writer, so expect a good read.

An all-new G.I. Joe Silent Missions! The face of comic books changed forever when G.I . Joe: A Real American Hero #21 introduced fans to the “Silent Interlude,” an action-packed story with no dialogue. Now, in a standalone silent issue, fan favorite Beach Head is trapped in a DMZ and hunted by the forces of Cobra. But can Beach Head save himself and the war orphans he’s vowed to protect?

So that’s why issue #21 is getting the reprint treatment! BTW, Beach Head’s first appearance is GI Joe #47 (Marvel), if interested

Nyx has been many things to Al Simmons: enemy, friend, savior, and more. She was the first to take the mantle of She-Spawn and helped save Wanda and Cyan alongside Al. Then, one day, she just disappeared. She now reigns as the Queen of Hell, but where has she been, and what has she done to set her on this path?

Series will fill in the gaps when NYX disappeared, and then reappears to become ruler of Hell in Spawn #350.

NEW CHARACTERS

The JEDI face a new threat on a strange, fantastic and mysterious world. But the planet’s surface ruler has a dark secret he wants hidden from the REPUBLIC! The first story featuring a never-released Kenner action figure…ATHA PRIME!

Atha Prime has been on a few covers, but his “debut” was merely a vison/flashback in issue #1. As such, this book expects to be a lower print run and true introduction. He’s on Cover A, so this could be the better spec play long term for this character.

Same book but variant cover. Seems like Star Wars is getting into these “put the character on a cover, then debut them later” fad. Here’s another. We all know the guy on the left is Luke. But I don’t know who is on the right. All I can tell you that it is not Spock (it is note Amok Time – wrong universe). But looks like a Sephi. If you know, feel free to enlighten us in the comments.

Now the Amok Time battle scene music is in my head…

INDY SPOTLIGHTS

In the gritty underbelly of Harlem, young Terrence is left to fend for himself after his sister, Kiara, leaves him with their abusive father. Years later she reappears, a formidable vampire with a dark purpose. Kiara transforms Terrence and his loyal crew of gangbangers into creatures of the night, offering them a chance to escape their brutal existence. Together, they embark on a perilous journey to Blood World City, a hidden metropolis teeming with supernatural beings. As they delve into this dangerous new world, Terrence and his gang must adapt to their newfound powers and fight for survival against rival gangs.

Apparently this title is in development with Sony Entertainment. This is part of the Night of the Cadillac deal.

Henry Hayes could have been the best baseball player anybody ever saw, if only his dark affliction didn’t prevent him from playing in the daylight. But when the barnstorming circuit introduces a new novelty to the game—night baseball under the bright lights—will his dreams of playing pro ball finally be realized, or will his bloody past catch up with him before he gets the chance? From the midwest fields of the 1920s to the big city lights of today, Past Time is a small town thriller on a National scale.

Baseball and horror. How can you pass that up? Just in time for spring training.

Actually sounds interesting. I may grab issue #1 and check it out.

PICK OF THE WEEK

Rennie Bethary has just been accepted into New York City’s most prestigious fashion school. Her designs are daring, edgy, and singular…and made of human flesh. Did we forget to mention Rennie is a serial killer who simply wants to be a fashion designer instead? Stupid, pesky, murderous urges!

This could be an interesting mini-series. So it’s automatically on the list for that. But the variant cover homage to the famous Janet Jackson Rolling Stones cover could be a bit sneaky. It would not surprise me if the story is good that this cover gets a bump out of the gate. I’m just grabbing it for the nostalgia, but will give it a read as the concept is a bit unique.

And in what’s a bit of a slow week, that is what makes this the Dirty D Pick-of-the-Week!!

Parting Thoughts

As I said, slow week, but potentially a few sleepers out there. Have a great week, everyone!
