THE TOP 10

1 The Amazing Spider-Man Annual Vol.1 #19
This one is purely speculation at this point, so follow closely. This book presents the first appearance of Alistair Smythe, who goes on to battle Spidey as the Spider Slayer. He was a major player in the Spider-Man animated series, but rumors are circulating that he could receive a live-action refresh. Part of Smythe’s game is to delegate villainy stuff, using distributed tech to lesser villains to achieve his goals. Now, how this pertains to Spider-Man: Brand New Day is a bit convoluted. There’s been concept art floating around that looks eerily similar, and the fanbase is missing the answer to a major question they’ve presented: why so many characters included, and where are all the villains?! That’s led collectors online toward this book, and the hope we may see the Spider Slayer in live action! We tracked 42 copies sold, at a 7-day growth trend of 87% with a high sale of $75 for a CGC 9.6 copy and a current raw NM FMV of $7.

2 The Spectacular Spider-Man #1
While this book doesn’t sport any first appearances, it is the beginning of an iconic run. Most Spider-Man collectors are familiar with this book, and this run is seeing a bit more attention thanks to Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Part of that is the loud focus on ‘street level’ shenanigans that Spidey is known for. A ton of that comes from this run. Majorly ‘street level’ and chock full of first appearances of lesser, street level villains, for Spider-Man to duke it out with on the big screen. This book is likely seeing extra heat due to the watchful eye collectors have on the previous entry. We tracked 17 copies sold, at a 7-day growth trend of 54% with a high sale of $375 for a CGC 9.8 copy and a current raw NM FMV of $26.

3 Dazzler Vol.1 #3
Aaron from Josh’s Comics on Instagram decided to give his followers a lesson on the power of FOMO… by actually creating it. He sparked a playful rumor that Dazzler would appear in Avengers: Doomsday, spotlighting Dazzler #3, where the roller-skating mutant goes toe-to-toe with Doom himself. The community ran with it. With such a low buy-in, collectors jumped in, copies vanished from the aftermarket, and prices spiked. While the buzz began as a fabrication, the book’s striking cover helped keep momentum alive. The experiment lands at #3 on this week’s Top 10, proving Aaron’s point about how quickly FOMO can move the market. As always, collect wisely. We tracked 42 copies sold, at a 7-day growth trend of 17% with a high sale of $125 for a CGC 9.8 copy and a current raw NM FMV of $4.

4 Batman: Dark Patterns #2 – Martin Simmonds
This is a bit of a strange one. This book, and Cover A, have gone ballistic on the aftermarket. At this point, it’s difficult to say exactly why, but there is some evidence that there is a simple answer—fan happiness. Overwhelmingly, the story this series set out to tell is being accepted with open arms. Batman, doing detective stuff. What Batman fans love about the character is done well. Online consensus is that the series is awesome, and this book is the only variant available for it. It may be a situation where collectors just want a piece because they like the series, or we could be seeing some soft market manipulation, because the jump in value tied to these books was dramatic. Word is this book is an underrated hit for DC, with demand surging after the success of issue #1, but it’s too late to order heavier for this issue, leading to scarcity. Time will tell. We tracked 11 copies sold, at a 7-day growth trend of 12% with a high sale of $50 for a raw NM copy and a current raw NM FMV of $37.

5 Batman: The Dark Knight #3
Some may remember seeing this book months ago during the lead-up to Peacemaker season 2. It strikes again, as we got a glimpse of Brey Noelle reportedly in character as White Rabbit. Now, this book isn’t her first appearance, but it may be the most popular or iconic. It’s the book collectors gravitate toward when hype is up, as it’s a stellar showcase of the great David Finch’s work. We tracked 17 copies sold, at a 7-day growth trend of 17% with a high sale of $20 for a raw NM copy and a current raw NM FMV of $10.

6 Ghost Pepper #2 – Ito (1:50)
Here is another Image title that’s flown a bit under the radar, but is seeing a lot of love from the fanbase. Already, they’re putting their money up for the highest ratio variant available on issue #2. ITO delivered epicness on this one, and the fanbase responded. However, being a smaller title, the likelihood that LCS would order enough to hit the ratio is minimal. That presents this book as tough to find, and for the time being, it likely is. But like other titles, once out of the spotlight, it may come down dramatically in price. We tracked six copies sold, at a 7-day growth trend of 6% with a high sale of $85 for a raw NM copy and a current raw NM FMV of $78.

7 Exquisite Corpses #4 – Michael Walsh – Secret Foil
Another one! MORE! More secret/variant covers for the latest James Tynion work. Exquisite Corpses has been going bananas since its release, with some incredible variants that dominated the aftermarket for weeks. This time, the secret foil from Michael Walsh for #4 hits our list, continuing that streak. We tracked 16 copies sold, at a 7-day growth trend of 0% with a high sale of $40 for a raw NM copy and a current raw NM FMV of $37.

8 Hyde Street #8 – Sean Von Gorman & Ivan Reis (1:20)
Another Image title! Hyde Street has been going strong since its inception, as the community has steadily embraced horror-centric books. Hyde Street delivers, and so does this 1:20 from the pair of Gorman and Reis. Homaging the classic 80/90’s cereal boxes most reading fondly remember, it also introduces the likes of Dr. Ego to the story, a delightfully twisted enemy for collectors to enjoy. We tracked 11 copies sold, at a 7-day growth trend of 18% with a high sale of $43 for a raw NM copy and a current raw NM FMV of $35.

9 Magik #8 – Russell Dauterman (1:25)
Fans dig Magik. We’ve seen several Magik-centric covers, or books from this run, even, on the list this year. We get another one, this time a 1:25 variant from Russell Dauterman. Deviating from the typical Magik cover that moves the aftermarket, this book features nearly every iteration/depiction of the character since inception. For Magik fans out there, it’s a dream come true, but one that may prove difficult. While Magik has grown in popularity, she is not a household name, leading to difficulties acquiring her from the LCS, necessitating a pivot to the online marketplaces. We tracked 25 copies sold, at a 7-day growth trend of 5% with a high sale of $150 for a CGC 9.8 copy and a current raw NM FMV of $61.

10 Black Cat #1 – J. Scott Campbell – Just Spectacular Collection Virgin (1:100)
J. Scott Campbell’s “Just Spectacular Collection” has been truly spectacular, delivering some high ratio variants to the market featuring some of collectors’ favorite characters. Or, favorite characters when J. Scott Campbell does them, that is! If his name is associated with characters like Black Cat (this cover) or Mary Jane Watson, the aftermarket will likely be hopping in some way. Last week, it was busy enough for this 1:100 to make it on this list! We tracked 11 copies sold, at a 7-day growth trend of 16% with a high sale of $125 for a raw NM copy and a current raw NM FMV of $104.
