Dirty D’s F.O.C. 10/26/26

Been fighting my computer this evening putting this together, and I just don’t have much left in my to say something witty. That being said, a little of everything this week.

COVERS

I prefer the classic purple Catwoman outfit personally, but so like their Catwoman a little “naughty.”

MAKING A LIST, HE’S CHECKING IT TWICE… THERE’S A WHOLE LOT OF NAUGHTY, NOT ONE BIT OF NICE… Peace on earth, good will toward men…Bah humbug! The festive season isn’t just for goody-two-shoes, it’s also for those of us who hate, hate, double-hate, and loathe entirely. So if you don’t have anything nice to say, come sit over by us, and celebrate with a rogues gallery of baddies, including Poison Ivy, Livewire, Catman, Mr. Freeze, and more! From Arkham Asylum to the Phantom Zone and all the pockets of scum and villainy in between, they’re coming home for the holidays, and they’re bringing their Red Ryder Range 200-shot BBs with them, ya filthy animals. Pick up a copy wherever comic books (and last minute gifts) are sold, and make space for it under the tree or on your mantelpiece…I triple-dog dare ya!

Speaking of naughty…There are several variant covers for this one-shot, but this one has that vintage classic Christmas nostalgia feel to it.

Not really a fan of “theme” variants. But this is a cool Watchmen cover by Dan Mora.

Neal Armstrong is like “WTF?!”. The only question for this Ross cover is whether this is occurring on a set, or on the actual moon…? :astonished:

I think this may be a 1:10 incentive, but I’ve seen multiple sites point this cover out. Star Trek covers never seem to be good spec, but this one might sneak up on some, especially given Gonzo has his fans.

THE STORY YOU KNOW…FROM A NEW POINT OF VIEW! Before he was the lethal protector we all know and love, disgraced reporter Eddie Brock and a rejected alien symbiote come together to get vengeance against Spider-Man…but this time, hear the story from Venom’s point of view! Writer Ryan Stegman and artist Carlos Gómez — both with a rich history with Venom — take us back in time for a new spin on the classics that introduced our favorite symbiote!

Why not use McFarland’s original full page for this cover, versus pay Reis for an homage? It’d probably sell 5x the number. Anyway, it’ll still be popular as I don’t know if Venom’s first full page appearance that is iconic in and of itself has ever been homaged on a cover…Going to give this Cover-of-the-Week status just on that.

BEEFCAKE ALERT

Snicker all you want, but DC has cornered the market on Beefcake covers. Will this one get looked over because it’s not of Nightwing’s @$$? I’d rather swing and miss, ordering 1 then be scrambling should this heat up like so many others have…Just know that these don’t typically catch heat for a while.

NOTABLE REPRINTS

Issues 2 through 5 also have reprints on FOC which glow.

I’ve been saying this book needs a facsimile reprint for years. As popular and a key as this book is, I don’t believe it’s ever gotten a reprint. The story just gets put in collected volumes like Greatest Joker Stories Ever Told. A grail book of mine. The Blank Sketch Variant might be a sneaky long term spec play as well.

NEW ONES

FROM THE TWISTED MIND OF BENJAMIN PERCY COMES A SCIFI HORROR EPIC LIKE YOU’VE NEVER SEEN BEFORE Easter Sunday in the Midwest. Sunrise service. The Lord has risen, and the hungry will come. A visitor crash-lands in the woods surrounding the picket-fence suburbia where little Piper lives with her mom Tina and her nasty stepdad Don. The world is frightening and alien for both Piper and her new…friend… but on this day of cosmic forgiveness, when her family falls apart, the unlikely pair may find their own salvations. Bestselling writer Benjamin Percy (The End Times, Wolverine, Punisher) and artist RaUl Fernández (Profane, Terrors Through Time) launch the most ambitious series of the year!

New series by Mad Cave.

AN ALL-NEW SERIES BEGINS IN THE AFTERMATH OF ARMAGEDDON! Mutants by birth, heroes by choice! After the cataclysmic events of ARMAGEDDON, who’s left to save the world from an Avengers-level threat? In the absence of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, Storm and Wolverine assemble a new team of Earth’s Mightiest Mutants to face the foes no single hero can handle. But they may quickly come to regret that decision when the ANNIHILATION WAVE arrives on Earth.

THE DARKEST PERIOD OF LOGAN’S LIFE! After suffering the horrors of two World Wars, the loss of loved ones and family, the biggest shock of Logan’s may be that the true horror is still yet to come. 25 years after the seminal ORIGIN, writer Paul Jenkins returns to Wolverine, along with artist CAFU, to tell the never-before-revealed darkest period of Logan’s history. THE DARK AGE is harrowing tale that’ll delve deep into the way Logan’s mind and memories work, and how this twisted experience in the 1950s created the man and mutant known today as Wolverine!

Some of the covers in this first issues are pretty…not good. So just highlighting the foil variant.

ONE and DONE

From The New York Times bestselling writer WARREN ELLIS (TREES, Transmetropolitan, Netflix’s Castlevania) and Grammy-nominated artist/designer LORDESS FOUDRE (Soccer Mommy’s Color Theory, Trashumanism, Kasablanca), an eerie graphic novella about death and the digital. On the anniversary of the worst thing that ever happened to him, a haunted investigator with no time for the modern world is sent to a research station in the desert to discover why it’s gone offline. What he finds is an experiment in immortality gone horribly wrong, with stakes both global and very, very personal.

POTENTIAL FIRSTS

THE BEAST UNLEASHED! The moment you’ve been waiting for — WOLVERINE’s feral side fully emerges! But who is behind this, and will LOGAN be able to rein in his bestial temperament before innocent blood stains his hands and claws forever? RATED PARENTAL ADVISORY.

I would think it would be a bigger deal if we saw Wolverine’s “cuddly side” than seeing his feral side…how much more feral can this guy get that we haven’t seen before? Either way, Marvel is pushing Feral Wolverine as sort of a different sort of personality…this red cover could catch some heat, like the Hellverine cover did.
