Comics Picks of the Week for Delivery 10/7/15

Each week hundreds of new comics it the stands (several hundred of them will be Marvel books this week, with the relaunch, and the variants). All have potential, some live up to that potential. We pick the ones we think have the best shot at heating up. Here are our picks of the week for delivery 10/7/15:

It is a huge, wallet busting, coming home broke, and the wife mad at you week of comics. So many books are coming out, plus, NYCC is this weekend.

New Image #1
Axcend #1– SHANE DAVIS (Superman: Earth One), MICHELLE DELECKI (JLA,Venom) and MORRY HOLLOWELL (Civil War, Old Man Logan) bring you an epic sci-fi/thriller that’s like Tron meets Inception with a cheat code! This special introductory issue features 28 full pages and no ads!

Saints #1 I am digging this by the solicitation alone, Dexter-style action collides with a Preacher-esque sensibility in this crime/horror series for mature readers. Blaise, Lucy, and Sebastian discover a Holy War is erupting and they, unwittingly, are the next generation of Saints poised to fight for a heaven that God has abandoned. The occult rises in a spectacular, action-packed first issue crammed full of heavy metal, sex, and deadly one-liners.

The Sexy Spy Thriller
Codename Baboushka: Conclave Of Death #1– This reminds me of Red One which I enjoyed and want more of. Described as
What if the sexy Russian Bond girl…was actually the hero?” CODENAME BABOUSHKA is an action-packed modern pulp spy thriller full of high-stakes thrills in exotic locations, with a kick-ass female hero in the style of James Bond and Modesty Blaise!

Small Press Gem, with a media tie in
Heroes Vengeance #1– I loved the old show and am excited for the new one. Looking forward to the tie in material. This is out from Titan and will have a small print run and could have fans looking for it.

My Pick of the Week
Paper Girls #1– BKV’s new series. Double sized first issue and no variants to water it down. This is a must pick up. This will not be a rocket right off the bat, but more of a slow burn.

My Small Press Pick of the Week
Famous Monsters presents Project Nemesis #1– I love the books American Gothic Press has been putting out and this will be no exception. It is an adaptation of a novel, but artist Matt Frank, who has provided art for Godzilla, and some of the most memorable Godzilla in Hell covers, provides the art. Small press book, good story, fan base based on the novels, sounds like a winner. AGP sent me the preview issue and I was not disappointed.

AS AN ADDED BONUS THE HALLOWEEN PICKS OF THE WEEK

Halloween is around the corner and an excellent time to buy and sell horror comics. Here are a few you should watch out for!
Rowans Ruin #1– If you’re a fan of horror films like Insidious and The Conjuring, or comics like Curse and Nailbiter, you’ll love how Rowans Ruin unfolds as it slowly clues you in on the terrifying secret that is at the heart of the story.

Survivor’s Club #1– One was possessed by a poltergeist. Another was trapped in a haunted house. A third had a killer doll. Ever wonder what happened to these children of the 1980s? Find out in SURVIVORS CLUB

That is it for me this week. Let us know what you are spec-ing on!
