Boom Studio’s Butterfly Picked Up by Chanel 4

It was announced earlier today that Boom Studio/Archaia’s book Butterfly has been picked up for a tv show.

Of course, thefew copies on eBay flew off the shelf. A couple have been listed at higher prices now. Remains to be seen if they sell.

Mycomicshop has a few but do not expect them to last.

From Deadline.com

Channel 4 has picked up Arash Amel’s series Butterfly with Bo Odar (WB’s Sleepless Night) attached to direct the pilot. The show is based on the BOOM! Studios comic book created by Arash Amel and written by Amel & rising comic book star Marguerite Bennett (A-Force, Angela).

Amel (Grace of Monaco) will write the series and exec produce along with 42’s Ben Pugh and Rory Aitken, and Automatik’s Brian Kavanuagh-Jones. It marks the second collaboration for the trio, following on from Sam Worthington-Ruth Wilson starrer The Titan. BOOM! Studios’ President of Development Stephen Christy, who developed the original comic with Amel, and BOOM! CEO and Founder Ross Richie will also serve as exec producers on the series. Channel 4 has picked up with a view for a co-pro with a U.S. network. Channel 4 is the home of Humans, a co-production with AMC, and Utopia, which until recently was set to be remade at HBO with David Fincher.

Butterfly is a globe-trotting geopolitical thriller, set against the backdrop of a modern global conflict. Our heroine is Rebecca Faulkner, codenamed Butterfly, a deep cover US intelligence operative who is set up for a murder that she didn’t commit. Caught in a deadly global manhunt, and disavowed by her own handlers, her attempts to get home from foreign soil unwittingly lead her to a man she thought died twenty years ago — her own father, David Faulkner, a former Cold War spy codenamed Nightingale, now living under an assumed identity and with a new family. Father and daughter, two spies spanning two very different eras, have to pool their resources and trust each other through decades of hurt, secrets and lies to unravel the conspiracy behind her predicament. A conspiracy which may have its roots in his sinister past.

Controlling the largest comic book library outside of Marvel and DC, BOOM! has hit its stride in TV this year, selling Protocol: Orphans to Fox Broadcasting Company and 20th Century Fox TV,with whom it has a first look deal; YA series The Woods to Universal Cable Productions, and kids graphic novel Cow Boy to Dreamworks Animation TV.
