This week, Poyo can relax since everyone wants to eat turkey instead of chickens. All those poor turkey’s.. this weeks picks are in honor of their sacrifice of filling our bellies.
Also, Poyo would like to remind everyone that Thanksgiving isn’t about those damn Pilgrims coming to America, learning how to grow food and get along with the natives, it’s about having the damn day off, which everyone should enjoy. So if you can, do not give into the hype of having to go shop at Wally World on Thanksgiving evening, let those greedy corporations know that their employees should have the day off just as much as anyone else. So be kind and instead wake up at 3am on Friday morning to go stand out in front of a store to save a few bucks you crazy crazy people.. I’ll be sleeping in on Friday since I already got most of my shopping done weeks ago.
Now, on with the picks!
DC/Vertigo Pick of the Week:
Batman Master Race III (DC) – It’s Batman. Frank Miller, Andy Kubert.. there’s going to be a bazillion of them but that won’t stop you from buying them, now will it?
Small mention is Jacked #1 from Veritgo.. seems interesting. A smart pill that ends up giving him super powers but comes at an addicting cost? Yeah, I’ll be checking it out.
Marvel Picks of the Week:
Silk #1 (Marvel) – I don’t care what anyone says, I’m still on the Cindy Moon bandwagon. I’ve enjoyed her more than Spider-Gwen so, nuff said!
Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur #1 (Marvel) – I think this one will fly under the radar, it seems like a book for children (it’s the reason I’ll be picking it up, for my 10 year old who still loves dinosaurs) but I think it has a chance to go far if done right.
The Indie Pick of the week:
Self Storage #2 (451 Media) – I thoroughly enjoyed #1 so I’m definitely picking up #2. This seems to be sold out at some online retailers, so it could be hard to come by. Most of my local shops have only been ordering a handful of these.
The Everyone Loves Snoopy pick of the week:
Peanuts Snoopy Special #1 (Boom!) – Even those that don’t care for the Peanuts gang, they still seem to love the beagle, Snoopy. So yeah, it’s a definite pickup, one for me, some for the kids to destroy (which I’m slowly teaching them they should keep in good shape and in bags with boards)..
And the big one this week is.. it’s the “If you can find it, grab it” pick of the week:
Straitjacket #2 (Amigo) – With all the hoopla about missing or stolen issues, this one will be hard to find. So if you do find it, buy one and leave some for the rest of us who actually just want to read it at cover price, not the hyped up inflated prices.
I’ve been able to secure a copy of Straitjacket but not Self Storage. 🙁
I wouldn’t fret just yet.. I’m willing to bet Midtown gets more in, they got more #1 in stock, which you can buy online now. So it’s likely not sold out at Diamond just yet. Ask your local shop if they didn’t get enough to see if they can order more.
Sweet! Then I’ll let it simmer and see what happens. Thanks for the heads-up.
I actually snagged one from Midtown on pre-order, I tend to do that on some indies just in case my local shops don’t get them. I can hook you up if you end up missing out as I’ll probably pick one up locally tomorrow as well.
I *may* have secured a copy. I’m waiting on an email confirmation. If I didn’t get it, I’ll hit you up.
I have six copies total.

I with you on silk over gwen. Been saying saying since day one
Silk is way better than Spider-Gwen, IMO. When I first read the solicitation for her introduction, I was highly skeptical; but in reading the first few issues featuring her, I was easily endeared to Silk’s story. With Spider-Gwen, I feel like 90% of the hype is based on the way she Looks and the Legacy of Gwen Stacy. The story itself is just another alternate dimension “What If?” story that doesn’t bring much to the table. I am still picking it up, but the plots are so thin, I don’t know how much longer I will stick around. While Silk has been an Amazing read every time.
I dropped Gwen when the last series ended.
