I’m in Canada again, to undo what I did here 5 months ago because sometimes the cream of the crop (you know how most make it to the top right? ask in the comments if you’re unaware) don’t make the best decisions, in fact, they make some really terrible decisions most of the time. But I’m not complaining, I’m getting paid to undo what I already did, that was a redo previously as well..
So I’m gonna eat all the damn ice cream I can, I don’t care if it’s 2 degrees Celsius.. I only came back for the ice cream.
Let’s get on with the picks, sadly I will not be going to any shops this Wednesday as I’ll be stuffing my face with ice cream.. and those damn Nutella Filled Brownies I’ve discovered also in Canada that the wife and kids have demanded I buy as many as possible to bring back.
DC/Vertigo
Frostbite #6 (Vertigo) – Usually not spec worthy for mini-series ending books but this was jut a great read from a great writer (Joshua Williamson). Maybe it doesn’t end here and we can see this world pop up again in a new mini-series.. Anything is possible right?
Marvel
Elektra Vol. 4 #1 (Marvel) Bill Sienkiewicz Artist Variant Cover – Not much spec in the Marvel world this week but I am picking this Sienkiewicz variant as I’m not expecting most shops to order enough Elektra to qualify for this variant. It’s gonna be hard to find, if you can find it. The big online retailers are already sold out for the most part.
Small Publisher Pick
Jim Hensons Power of the Dark Crystal #1 (BOOM!) – I’m a long time fan of the original. I’m loving the Sana Takeda (Monstress famed artist) as well, it’s selling out or already sold out at most online retailers. But this takes place years since where the movie left off. I hope they don’t let us cult fans of this movie down..
From the description: “In celebration of the 35th anniversary of Jim Henson’s The Dark Crystal, return to the world of Thra in an official sequel to the beloved fantasy film. Discover an all-new race of creatures called Firelings that live in a realm near the planet’s core, based on official character designs by Brian Froud. Years have passed since the events of the original film, and though Jen and Kira have ruled Thra as King and Queen, bringing Gelfling back to the land, they have become distracted by power and can no longer feel or see the needs of the world the way they once did. Thurma is a young Fireling tasked with stealing a shard of the Dark Crystal to restore power to her realm. Along the way she’ll befriend the young Gelfling Kensho, bring back the Skeksis and Mystics, and embark on one incredible adventure.”
Indie Pick
Heathen #1 (Vault Comics) – You probably already read about this, as Anthony spot lighted this issue. But it’s sold out online almost everywhere that I’ve checked. My primary local shop hasn’t even been ordering Vault books.. so I’m not expecting them to get this one either.
Expect low print runs. There are literally none being sold yet on eBay (Regular Cover that is). The variant is going to be easier to get. Cover A by far will be the winner for this indie pick of the week.
From the description: “Aydis is a viking, a warrior, an outcast, and a self-proclaimed heathen. Aydis is friend to the talking horse Saga, rescuer of the immortal Valkyrie Brynhild, and battler of demons and fantastic monsters. Aydis is a woman. Born into a time of warfare, suffering, and subjugation of women, she is on a mission to end the oppressive reign of the god-king Odin.”
That’s all folks!

You’re lucky! We’re having Hot February this year. Normally it’s minus a huge number and were buried in snow.
That’s funny.. I went from flip flops to piles of snow on side of road and walkways as tall as me.. It doesn’t feel super cold though, but then again, I love the cold since it’s always hot where I’m from. I guess it helps since there seems to be no wind currently in Montreal. Wind chill always makes it feel colder.
All the snow in my yard melted since Sat. I have one little sad pile left in a corner. Can’t say I’ll miss the little son of a bitch when he goes tomorrow.
I never said I was a good Canadian.
Montreal again Poyo?
If you need pointers on things to check out lemme know I’ll point you in the right direction :p
Set him up—everyone should tickle the underbelly of MTL at least once in their lives!
ooooooooh! Tickle the underbelly. Sounds dirty lol.
Truer words have never been uttered.
I was stuck mostly in Laval this time around. I didn’t get a chance to go sight seeing but I must say, we eat very well while we are there. Even tried Rubs BBQ, they claim they came to Texas to learn how to BBQ.. wasn’t bad, but definitely wasn’t as good as ours down here. 🙂
One of these days I’m going to make it back to Canada. My Dad took me several times. I need to bring my kids one of these days.
Rue St. Catherine and Cresent Street…..make sure to hit both at night, sans kids of course. Let the tickling of the underbelly begin!
ha! Canada’s version of the red light district? Somehow my dad left that off of our tour….
