Poyo's Picks of the Week for March 15th, 2017

Here’s to hoping this comic book day isn’t as bad as last week, which literally, sent me into the ditch!
Honestly not a whole lot going this week either. Regular pulls for the most part, if anything heats up, it’ll likely be a surprise heat!
DC/Vertigo Pick
Batman #19 (DC) – Not a whole lot going on for DC this week. This one stands out as I like the cover. Most of Batman’s greatest foes all on the same cover, except the Joker. But we can do without him right? We’ve seen enough of the Joker.
Marvel Pick
Punisher #10 (Marvel) – Why this one? What’s so special about this? It’s likely Steve Dillon’s last known inside artwork for a comic book series before his sudden death back in late October. Matt Horak is the new artist starting in issue #11.
Small Publisher Pick
American Gods Shadows #1 (Dark Horse) – It’s Neil Gaiman. It’s a #1 Bestselling Novel. It’s slated to be a new TV series. Now it’s a comic book. I don’t expect overnight success for the spec market on this but over time it can turn into a great flip book. Grab’em, stash’em, flip’em later when the time is right. This is something that will likely be sought after once the TV show airs..
Honorable Mention goes to God Country #1 3rd print, which hits stands this week, along with #2 2nd print and then #3. God Country #1 caught everyone by surprise. #1 2nd print almost sold better than #1 on it’s release day. This series is hot, it’s a great read. I’m loving it. The #1 3rd print is sold out at most online retailers.
Indie Pick
Girrion #5 (Scout Comics) – I love this series. It’s a great read. The art style reminds me of The Dark Crystal in a way but with the Sci-Fi twist. Pick it up if you haven’t done so already.
That’s all I got this week.

  1. Definitely gonna check out American Gods. I’m glad there is a some Dillon art left to enjoy. Any idea why his name isn’t on the cover for the last two covers 8 and 9?

    1. They had a different artist for 8&9. I think they had given him a break in between arcs. And then sadly he passed away. I picked up the Jusko Corner box variant on this one.

  2. I picked up a copy of punisher and the artwork appears to not be Dillons. I was wondering what the actual last art from him was if anyone can help me out. First post ever by the way lol I love this site however lots of good info!

    1. Glad to have you here. I thought it may have been solicited as such however the art is clearly not his. Blame that on Poyo
